Should I go for NMIMS MPSTME or Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT)?

AG
Akriti Gupta Posted On : September 7th, 2023

Without a doubt, MIT Manipal is a better option than NMIMS MPSTME. It’s one of the top private Engineering colleges in the country with a better placement scenario than most other private institutes including NMIMS. MIT has a diverse crowd and a vibrant culture making it an amazing choice to spend 4 years of your life. The culture is immensely diverse and this is probably the coolest place to spend the 4 years of your college life. The infrastructure is also great and MIT Manipal has some very famous alumni like

  • Satya Nadella
  • Rajiv Suri
  • Banmali Agarwala
  • Rajeev Chandrashekhar
  • Faizal Kottikollon

The institute has produced amazing startups like Fractal Works, Cwain Microsystems, Mean Metal Motors, etc

In all, you should definitely considering choosing MIT over NMIMS.

Taking distance education from NMIMS is worth it?

SD

MBA BM, XLRI

Well, frankly speaking, it's not. They will give you a Diploma certificate that is not validated out of India although they are from a recognized platform.

I will suggest that rethink your decision of opting for a distance MBA. NMIMS is undoubtedly is a great management institute but distance management courses are not well perceived in India itself. There are valid reasons behind this. Management education has little to do with theory, it needs a lot of skill-building, mentorship, grooming, which is not possible in distance education. Also, for most of these courses, many colleges do not offer placement offers. Even if they do you will get a lower salary than a regular MBA graduate.

Even in the current Covid-19 pandemic, although most reputed colleges started their classes online, they will go for regular classes with all precaution, once the situation stabilizes. So, choosing a regular MBA will be better.

But if you are determined to do a distance MBA, you may go ahead with ICFAI. ICFAI was built as a not-for-profit society with the broad objective of empowering citizens through world-class quality education. ICFAI has established 11 Universities all across India. ICFAI is even recognized by UGC (United Grants Commission) and DEB (Distance Education Board)

Course Objective:

  • The primary objective of the program is to build business leaders for the 21st century.
  • The course prepares you to handle the wide range of challenges inherent in managing organizations in a dynamic world.
  • If you are opting for this Tailor-made Program then you can be specialized in your own field of Interest.

Two-year Program charges around Rs 65000. For any further queries, you can visit the official site of ICFAI.

How is NMIMS Mumbai for its management programmes, in comparison to the old and new IIMs and some other good colleges?

SK
Shaunak Kapoor Posted On : February 23rd, 2023
PGDM from SVKM'S NMIMS?, Hyderabad Campus

Comparing NMIMS to the old IIMs like A, B, C, K, I, and L is completely illogical so let’s not do that. NMIMS Mumbai Campus is still comparable to the new IIMs in certain aspects. It is slightly better than new IIMs. Some points that favor this statement are

  • The infrastructure and in-campus facilities are a notch above the new IIMs
  • The peers are passionate learners ready to face life challenges that occur as a result of staying in Mumbai.
  • Another unique aspect of the college is its induction programs and tours that no other college offers. This helps develop students' confidence and provides maximum exposure to them.
  • There is a certain level of harmony between the seniors and juniors
  • The grading system is strict and one cannot miss a class more than the limitations of the course.
  • classroom learning is an exciting experience that involves activities and other interesting learning methods.
  • The total marks are a mix of every aspect like trimester exams, attendance, and class participation.
  • Various clubs and committees host cultural and social events. They also hold business events which are very beneficial for students aspiring to become managers
  • When it comes to placements, the average package in NMIMS is higher than that of new IIMs. Also, Mumbai Campus has 100 percent placement opportunities.

Therefore the excellent bridging of theoretical knowledge and practical approach makes it one of the most coveted B Schools in India.

Does percentile matter in NMAT? Is there a minimum percentile for NMIMS Mumbai? Or just the cutoff?

PT
Pragya Tripathi Posted On : March 9th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

When applying for NMIMS Mumbai, keep in mind that the cutoffs are declared in terms of marks, not percentiles. The NMAT cutoff for 2023 will be the minimum score required to appear for the selection rounds, which include WAT/GD/PI. The expected cutoffs for 2022 are 79+ for Logical Reasoning, 73+ for Quantitative Skills, 85+ for Language Skills, and an overall range of 205-250.

The cutoff for admission to NMIMS Mumbai is typically a score of 208 (94%). The NMAT cutoff for 2023 will depend on factors such as the number of registrations, candidates who appeared, reservation criteria, availability of seats, difficulty level, and past year cutoff trends.

How was your interview experience at IIM, FMS, MDI, XLRI, SP JAIN, NMIMS, SIBM, SCMHRD, etc. being from a commerce background ?

VP
Vinay Padmakar Posted On : May 19th, 2023
Studied at IIM Kozhikode

I can tell you about my interview experience for IIM Kozhikode.

I am a working professional with three years of work experience in the Ed-tech field. My 10th is 9.4 CGPA, 12th is 80% , both from CBSE, graduation score is 71.2% and I graduated in BBA in 2018 from a college in Indore .

I gave my interview in the afternoon slot (there were a total of three slots, morning, afternoon, and evening, the morning slot is best).

The interview was in online mode (due to covid). First, they asked me to verify my official ID cards. There were two people taking my interview, one male and one female.

They started by asking about my hobbies, I told them about gyming and cricket, and the male interviewer started asking me about cricket. He asked me who scored the maximum t20 runs in the previous year, what reverse swing is, top five bowlers who could bowl reverse swing. Then they started asking me about the firm in which I worked, the valuation of the firm, its reputation, the work culture, the future of the industry, who the CEO is, and all.

Then the next person started asking me questions from my undergrad, and I wasn't able to answer the question related to that. She seems a little unsatisfied with my answers.

I was waitlisted at the end and could not be able to convert the college.

Which is best to join new iim or nmims mumbai core?

DR
Divyanshu Ranjan Posted On : February 23rd, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Sambalpur (Graduated 2020)

While many may not agree, the new IIMs are far better than NMIMS. People prefer NMIMS mainly because of its location and legacy. If you come out of that criteria then you realize that the new IIMs are much more. I have compared the new IIMs with NMIMS on the basis of a few aspects.

  • Strength: The increasing batch size is a major problem in NMIMS as it directly affects placements. The best companies hire only 3-4 students. Thus almost half the batch is placed in mediocre companies with average roles. New IIMs, on the other hand, have a very small batch size and therefore there is equality in placements
  • NMIMS: NMIMS MBA fees is much more than the new IIMS. Also, the accommodation costs are high and the ultimate ROI is not good at all.
  • Campus Life: The most crucial drawback that NMIMS faces is a lack of hostel life. There are zero recreational or sports activities. No playgrounds or sports facilities are available. The new IIMs are excellent in this aspect with world-class facilities both in terms of education and recreation.
  • Placements: NMIMS placements are o n level with IIM Ranchi, the oldest among the new IIMs. Trichy and Kashipur are almost reaching that level too.

So the new IIMs are far better in terms of brand, faculty, and even ROI.

Considering that my profile is: 10th- 89.2 12th- 74.2 Grad. (Engg)- 8.5 PG- 8.0, which one is better: the NMIMS Mumbai, the IIM Rohtak, the IIM Raipur, the IIM Ranchi, the IIM Trichy, the IIM Udaipur

The aspects of judging a college’s worth depend on the following factors

  • legacy
  • alumni experience
  • perception among peers
  • quality of students
  • faculty
  • institute culture
  • events and activities
  • pedagogy
  • Summer and final placement opportunities

NMIMS renders you short-term advantages but IIMs offer many long term advantages. Even the faculty is better at IIMs than at NMIMS. But being a new institute, it lacks an alumni base. Any far-sighted person can definitely say that your IIM tag will help you in the long run.

Now based on your list, the order is

IIM Udaipur>IIM Ranchi>IIM Trichy>IIM Rohtak> IIM Raipur>IIM Kashipur

NMIMS vs. SPJIMR, which is a better B-school?

PB
Pratik Bahera Posted On : May 20th, 2022
studied at S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research

SPJIMR is a better B-School. It has a unique curriculum and pedagogical approach. The institute offers learning opportunities beyond the classroom. There are practical-oriented courses such as PG lab and Design Thinking courses. These courses will help you get industry-ready. Faculty base of the institute is great. Most of the faculty members have years of experience in the corporate world.

NMIMS has a huge intake of around 600. The large batch size causes problem during placements. SPJIMR has a batch strength of around 250.  So, each student gets decent chances in placements. According to the recent highlights of SPJIMR placements, students receive an average CTC of INR 30 LPA.
