Is the RGUHS correction of the 2nd year MBBS strict or liberal?

Shwetha S Posted On : March 30th, 2024

The results for 2nd year MBBS are fair and correction at RGUHS isn’t too strict. It must be easy to score marks if you are well prepared. RGUHS Results are based on criteria as follows:

Particulars

Details

Internal Assessment

35%

Theory + Oral

50%

Practicals/Clinicals (only Externals)

50%

Following the above pattern, students must be able to score well in the RGUHS Examination. Here are some more tips that might help you score well in your exams:

  • Focus on Preparation: Practice makes preparation better. Start preparing for the examination beforehand and make sure you are well-versed in the topics you find difficult.
  • Answer with Clarity: You must present your answers properly. So your answers provide clarity while answering the questions asked. This might help your scores significantly. Make your points structured and neat.
  • Visuals for Better Presentation: Highlight the important points and add diagrams and flow charts. Also, maintain good handwriting for better readability.

Read through the previous year’s questions and see if there is a pattern in topics. Focus on the important topics and always revise the difficult topics for better understanding.

Was language and food major (problems) obstacles for North Indians for an MBBS in JIPMER?

MS
Manjil Sharma Posted On : September 21st, 2023
Studied MBBS from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Pondicherry (2020)

Honestly, the South Indian food served in Pondicherry cannot be tolerated by North Indians for long because they are not used to the spices and the tamarind. But the bright side is, that Pondicherry has some amazing places serving North Indian and continental food.

I don't think food is a major obstacle for a North Indian MBBS student at JIPMER. Here is what the food at Pondicherry looks like.

JIPMER college

JIPMER college

The above pic shows scrumptious Bread and Chocolate, Auroville. The restaurants in Pondicherry are amazing so food should be your last concern here.

As a North Indian, my friend faced some major language issues, especially at the time of applying for ward leave. Her worst experience was the RHC posting during her internship. She had to interact with people in rural areas who spoke a more complex version of the language.

Overall, North Indians might miss their food and interact with their locals but not regret choosing JIPMER despite that!

How is the internship (after MBBS) at VMMC Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 26th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

The internship scenario at VMMC is quite disappointing and tiring. The number of patients is so huge in all the departments and interns have to work more than required to get the work done. Their focus is not to learn new procedures but to complete the work and go. Here is the department-wise scenario

  • Pediatrics : In this department, interns are required to find all the case sheets(files) and reports and arrange them before the rounds begin. They are also responsible for dextrose monitoring and discharges. If you are posted in labor, you will have to ensure the baby’s safety.
  • Surgery : Here, interns are required to do sampling, dressing, and discharges. In emergency minor OT, you will have to I n D, suturing, catheterization, and such. Interns also go to OT to watch the surgeries. Postgraduate students may let you do procedures like hydrocele on minor OT days.
  • Medicine : The patient load varies from season to season. In dengue season, it’s maximum and you will always be busy doing sampling and cannulation.
  • OBC : Here you are responsible for sampling, cannulation, catheterization, and NST. You can also take deliveries in the labor room.
  • Orthopedic : During emergency days you will be busy with cast and traction. You might also have to do skeletal traction.
  • For other departments like PSM, ENT, Derma, Optha, and Casualty, the workload is comparatively less so you get a lot of free time.

Overall, through the internships, you will get confident at least in minor tasks, and gain a lot of hands-on experience.

Can someone give me a priority order for these MBBS colleges Seth Gs , Grant, KGMU, BHU, CMC Vellore, AIIMS (except Delhi)?

NM
Nikhil Mishra Posted On : November 18th, 2022
M.B.B.S. from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (Graduated 2017)

Every college is good in one or the other aspects. Its location, faculty, and infrastructure are the main factors that determine a college's priority. The following list contains the colleges in order of priority based on their pros and cons.

Pros:

  • BHU: No requirement to sign a bond

  • Seth GS: Located in Mumbai with the best academic structure

  • KGMU Lucknow: The location and academic structure are perfect.

  • Other AIIMS: No need to sign any bond and the fee structure is affordable. AIIMS tag can help you with USMLE purposes.

Cons:

  • BHU: Located in Varanasi, it lacks the facilities of metropolitan cities like Delhi and Mumbai

  • Seth GS: Mumbai is expensive and a bond of 1 year needs to be signed

  • CMC Vellore: You will have to learn Tamil as it is located South India. The fee structure is pretty expensive.

  • Other AIIMS: They are usually not located in a good location except for Bhopal and Bhubaneswar.

The preferred order as per the pros and cons can be - BHU> AIIMS> KGMU> Grant> Seth GS> CMC Vellore

One college can be good for you but bad for others. This is because your own needs determine which college is best for you. So choose wisely.

What is the advantage of doing an MBBS from CMC Vellore, and how is it as compared to other premier institutes like AIIMS and JIPMER?

SS
S Jeno Sigamani Posted On : May 3rd, 2024
Christian Medical College, Vellore

As a final year MBBS student at CMC Vellore, I can offer you some insights on the benefits of joining CMC.

CMC Vellore

Here are the advantages of doing an MBBS from CMC Vellore rather than doing it at AIIMS/JIPMER -

  1. CMC Vellore receives a huge patient inflow, which is around 8000 patients per day. CMC offers a wide exposure of rare and common diseases to students during their clinical postings.
  2. The faculty is nationally and internationally renowned. The CMC teachers are devoted towards carrying out new research activities, and they are very supportive as well. But in this case, AIIMS and JIPMER are equally good.
  3. CMC follows the best protocol system among premier medical institutes in India. It offers the best patient care and a wide range of learning opportunities.
  4. The UG hostels at CMC are better than JIPMER and AIIMS. The senior-junior interaction is really good in CMC hostels.
  5. By doing an MBBS at CMC, one gets electives in foreign universities and secondary hospital programs (SHP) across India during clinical years.
  6. The internship period at CMC offers more exposure as compared to other premier medical colleges in India.
  7. CMC has a student governing body system.

CMC Vellore offers a rich exposure and plenty of opportunities to MBBS students. Getting into CMC is a great opportunity.

What is a typical day like for an M.B.B.S undergraduate studying at KMC, Manipal?

SS
Shambhavi Sharma Posted On : September 28th, 2023
MBBS from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal

One of my close friends studies at KMC Manipal so she shared her daily routine in college.

  • A typical day at KMC Manipal usually begins at 8:30 in the morning.
  • Students have to rush to grab their breakfast and reach the lecture hall on time. The lectures begin at 8: 30 and end at 10: 30 after which a short break is given during which students go to the CBS canteen and have a samosa sandwich, bread pakoda.
  • The break is followed by DH from 11–1. Dissection is the best part of 1MBBS and will intrigue you a lot.
  • The lunch break starts at 1 p.m. and lasts until 2:30, so you can even take a short nap.
  • Histology, Osteology, tutorials, or labs begin around 2:30 and last till 4 p.m. after which the day comes to an end at least academically.
  • With the end of the students, students go on to pursue things of their choice. Some sports enthusiasts head to MARENA, one of the best sports complexes in India. Some of the bookworms rush to the Health Sciences Library, some others spend time hanging out with friends while some grab a quick nap.
  • Students can be seen by being involved in many activities like binge-watching their favorite shows, playing video games, and exploring the city.
  • IMC Manipal has several events throughout the year and you are allowed to attend fests if other colleges too like WGSHA's food fests, MIC, and MIT's concerts.

Indeed KMC Manipal will offer the most liberating experience ever!

What are the drawbacks of doing MBBS from KGMU?

SK
Sanjana Kapoor Posted On : September 26th, 2023
VMCC Delhi

Here are a few drawbacks of pursuing an MBBS from KGMU

  • KGMU does not have an academic environment and research culture at par with the Delhi colleges like JIPMER and CMC Vellore.
  • KGMU has a very rigid and rigorous curriculum sparing no time for students to do MCQ for PG while in most colleges, the classroom sessions are less so they have more time to indulge in MCQ. So most KGMU passouts are great doctors but are less practiced for the PG exam.

However, these cons can easily be overlooked considering the unending pros the institute has to offer.
