What are some of the less known facts about IIITM Gwalior?

JS
Jayant Srivastava Posted On : April 8th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior (2020)

Firstly, you may know that IIITM Gwalior is the first IIIT to be established by the Government of India by Congress Minister Mr. Scindia and was inaugurated by the MHRD minister Mr. Murli Manohar Joshi. It has nearly 100% faculty members who hold a Ph.D. degree. You may not know even these -

  • The former IIITM chairman Dr. MN Buch was awarded Padma Bhushan.
  • IIITM G has been constantly rated A+++ and has ranked in the Top 25 among different surveys conducted by the government of India and other private magazines.
  • If you plan to study there, you'd get a hostel room to yourself because at IIIT M, every student gets a hostel room for him/herself.
  • You can bring anything to the hostel room- be it a washing machine, heater, bikes, AC, etc. Cars however are not allowed.

The scholarship provision is a bit upsetting because it is made available to students from Andhra Pradesh. The website describes scholarships with much finesse and claims to help those in need of the same, however in reality it is not accomplished and those who need it are the ones who are not able to receive it.

The date of arrival of forms, the date of submission, and the procedure of scholarship accessibility are unclear. The merit-cum-means scholarship is awarded to 10 of the first-year students, who are below a certain financial average and have a good JEE Main rank. Some students who have been worthy have suffered because of the mismanagement. All else is good at the institute.

One of my friends recently completed his graduation from NIT Hamirpur and another one is still studying at IIITM Gwalior. From the reviews I obtained from both of them, NIT Hamirpur seems to be the better option. Here is why

  • The alumni network is very strong such that even average students get placed thanks to the help of the well-placed alumni.
  • The college is located in a small hilly region surrounded by the serenity of nature that makes your time worth it.
  • The placement scenario is great and even average students with a CGPA of around 5 get placed.
  • The students focus on academics and extracurriculars.
  • There are amazing guest visits and recently
  • HRD MINISTER Smt Smriti Irani visited for a conference.

Overall, the campus life, academics, and placement scenario are much better at NIT Hamirpur than IIITM Gwalior.
