How is NIT PATNA for M.Tech.?
I completed my M.Tech in Microelectronics & VLSI Design from NIT Patna. From my specialization, NIT Patna students get selected in PSUs like BSNL, etc. But for PSUs, the students usually look towards cracking the GATE exam.
Other than that, companies like AMD and STMicroelectronics offer internships to worthy students from Microelectronics & VLSI. The alumni network is quite strong in this M.Tech specialization, with its alumni having interned at STMicroelectronics, AMD, Infineon, Intel, IIT Hyderabad, and RRCAT. Some of the alumni work at organizations like General Motors, Cadence Noida and core companies in Japan.
The faculty is quite good with dedicated members like Dr. Gaurav Kaushal, Dr. Bharat Gupta, and others.
At NIT Patna, or any other IITs and NITs, you are expected to work hard during your Masters’. I would recommend you set clear goals for yourself. Some Masters’ students decide to prepare for ESE/ PSUs while others sharpen their skills to get placed in a core company in the private sector.
How is the placement package for M.Tech students from IISC, Bangalore?
IISc Bangalore is famous for its research-oriented environment. Earlier it focused only on academic research. But in recent years, it has also started giving attention to industry placements.
Most of the reputed companies that visit IITs and BITs, also come to IISc for placements. All the IISc students end up with good packages, irrespective of their course/branch. The median CTC for IISc students was 28 LPA during 2023 placements. The placement process of IISc starts before the IITs, which is a great advantage for its students.
The MTech placements are good enough at IISc. But its grading system is very tough. You’ll have to work hard to maintain a good GPA over there. With a top GPA, you can expect at least 10 LPA as your placement package at IISc. This is applicable for all branches- CSA, SERC, DESE, ECE and EE.
Will the MTech scholarship through the GATE increase from 12,400 to 18,000?
No, there has been no such announcement. AICTE stipend for M.Tech students is INR 12,400. Students with valid GATE scores can avail of this financial assistance or scholarship.
Back in 2014, the stipend amount was increased from INR 8,000 to INR 12,400. Since then, there has been no official announcement regarding stipend increment.
How are placements in IIIT-Bangalore for M.Tech (computer science)?
The placement figures of IIIT Bangalore have always been promising.
Here are a few details on the 2023 placement stats for M.Tech CSE at IIIT Bangalore-
- The highest CTC stood at INR 65 LPA, the average CTC stood at INR 24 LPA, and the median CTC stood at INR 20.7 LPA.
- 121 students out of a total of 144 were successfully placed.
- Top recruiters visited the campus for placements. This list includes- HP, Amazon, Microsoft, Adobe, Samsung, and Qualcomm, among other reputed names.
- Master’s students from CSE and ECE received higher study offers from reputed universities. The names of these universities are- IISc Bangalore, PennState, Texas A&M University, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The University of Texas At Dallas, the University at Buffalo and the University of Twente.
The placements for M.Tech are very good at IIIT Bangalore. You can consider this college for your higher studies.
How are the placements for MTech students in IIIT Hyderabad?
IIIT Hyderabad MTech placements are decent but obviously not as good as BTech placements. The main reason is that UG students get to spend more time in IIIT than MTech students. So if you are an MTech student, you need to prepare well in your summer holidays and the 3rd semester to perform well in placements.
In IIIT Hyderabad M.Tech Placements 2022, the placement percentage stood at 94. The highest salary stood at INR 65 LPA while the average salary was recorded at INR 31 LPA. The lowest salary offered was INR 5 LPA.

Which one is better for CSE IIT Patna, IIT Mandi, IIT Jodhpur, IIT Bhubaneswar or IIT ISM Dhanbad?
Firstly, it is important to keep in mind that old IIT institutes are highly esteemed. On the other hand, new IITs are also rapidly growing and have overtaken some of the old campuses. So, it is important to not avoid an institute just because it has a fairly new IIT campus.
From the given list, IIT Patna was developed 10 years ago and has quickly become a highly accomplished institute in such a short span of time.
Keeping the other institutes in mind, here is a brief description about IIT Patna and what it has to offer within the CSE department.
Ranking:
- Being an institute of national importance, IIT Patna has an overall ranking of 58 by NIRF 2020 and has been ranked at 41 by QS World Ranking.
- It is ranked at 22 for its programs in Engineering by NIRF.
Computer Science Department:
- It has a well-established CSE department that covers a good combination of theory and practical subjects.
- About 14 students from the department were part of the Google Summer of Code (GSoc), which is the highest number of students from the new IIT’s.
- Students also get to participate in the interdisciplinary teams such as BAJA and ROBOCON that helps students in gaining exposure and provides them with a learning platform to discover and launch projects.

The faculty members are highly academic and provide students with the best learning experience by solving all their queries and paying individual attention to students.
Student Life:
- For students from the CSE department, they are given a chance to participate in the ACM-ICPC which is also called the Olympics of Coding on an international platform, where students from IIT Patna secured 72nd rank in the world and were amongst the top 3 in Indian institutes.
- The student club organizes multiple events like web development workshops and coding competitions in order to improve knowledge and skills in their field of study.

Is it worth doing an M.Tech from DTU?
Whether or not you should consider doing an M.Tech from DTU depends on several factors. These factors are-
- Brand Name- If you wish for the tag of a prestigious institution to be attached to your degree, DTU is the right choice for you. My sister had done her B.Tech from a college that is not well known, so she decided to go for her M.Tech from DTU to get the DTU tag.
- Placements- DTU has a good placement record. This is especially true for the CS and IT branches.
- Poor Research Environment- If you wish to go for research, DTU will disappoint you. The faculty will only be there to ‘support’, you will be on your own. The research facilities are also not up to the mark. The seniors are helpful. Overall, the environment is not very nourishing for research endeavors.
Even the teaching is not up to the mark.
- Other options- An M.Tech degree from DTU is equivalent to an M.Tech degree from a good NIT. If Delhi is the place for you, you should choose DTU or the nearest good NIT.
- Preparation- If you wish to go for teaching as a profession, you will get ample time to prepare for your NET/JRF during your M.Tech from DTU.
Even if you wish to go for government jobs after your M.Tech, you will get ample time for your preparation.
For hostel facilities, food, location, library, and study environment, DTU is a good university.
You must consider all these factors before choosing or not choosing DTU for your M.Tech. Overall, DTU is a prestigious and well-known university.
What are statistics of BITS Pilani ME CS placements?
BITS Pilani does not release course-wise placement statistics so the information I have mentioned is not from official resources but from someone who was in the previous batch.
As per him, all ME CS students get placed and around 3 to 4 students with better CGPA are chosen to sit in PS -2. BITS Pilani placement takes place in 2 semesters. In the second placement semester, students get excellent internship offers on the basis of their CGPA. Top recruiters who recruit ME CS students are Qualcomm, Cisco, Mathworks, Microsoft, and Amazon.
Another friend who was in the 2020 batch claimed that almost 100% of the students were placed. The highest salary package offered was 50 LPA, while the average salary package offered was 20 LPA and the minimum salary package offered was 10 LPA. Top recruiter companies are Google, Amazon Sprinklr, Cisco, Samsung, Microsoft, and many others.
Overall, ME CS students need not worry about placements at all.
How's life for M.tech students at IIT Bombay?
Life of M.Tech students at IIT Bombay is full of challenges yet enjoyable. The course work and project work are demanding but manageable. The academics won’t be as hectic as B.Tech.
Your weekdays will be a mix of classes, labs, and teaching assistant work. During weekends, you can unwind, watch movies, and take part in some extra-curricular activities.
If you want to have your own start-up, IIT Bombay is ideal. It has an active incubator and start-up culture. You will get the support and resources you need.
