This is slowly becoming one of the most coveted branches of IIT Kanpur. All the software companies that open job profiles for Mechanical and Chemical students also offer roles to students of BS in Physics. In fact, you will be surprised to know that many software companies opened profiles only for CSE, EE, Mathematics, and Physics, and not for mechanical, chemical, or civil. So we can conclude that BS in Physics is considered even better than Mechanical and Chemical to a certain degree.

First-year students of IIT Kanpur or any other institute are prone to distractions and thus need a disciplined approach to not lose focus.
- Make sure you have a good CPI throughout. Everything eventually boils down to your CPI, be it placements, higher education, or anything else.
- It’s a common experience for students to get a setback in the initial years considering the drastic change in the level of physics. You need to be patient and adapt yourself to the high-level courses.
- Apart from your wingmates, befriend your batchmates in your department as well. This will help you form a study group during exams.
- Don’t question your decision. Trust me, this is the best department you could be at. The opportunities offered will shape your career perfectly.
- Balance out your academic stress with some extracurricular activities and enjoy your college life to the fullest.

How do I take admission to learn a foreign language from IIT-Kanpur?
Initially, the Department of HSS of IIT Kanpur offered the Foreign language program(FLP). However, due to recent changes, it is now taught under the Dean of Students' Affairs.
Duration: 2 semesters

Admission process:
- The applications to get enrolled in this program are sent out in July every year.
- These applications can be downloaded from the Dean of Student Affairs (DoSA) IIT Kanpur homepage or collected personally from its office.

At IIT Kanpur, the wider domain namely, Electrical Engineering is offered and not Electronic Engineering. The wide scope enables students to explore almost everything h and then decide where their interest lies.
Electrical Engineering itself is made up of many fields like Signal Processing, Communication Systems, Microelectronics, and Power Electronics broadly. It’s not justified if a person acquired knowledge of only one specific field when in reality, all subdomains are interconnected.
Electronic Engineering is not a separate branch at IIT Kanpur but is definitely taught here. The flexible curriculum makes it possible for students to choose from a plethora of electives and customize their academic templates accordingly.
