In comparing NITIE, Mumbai and IIM, Lucknow, which one is better in all aspects?

IC
Indranil Chaudhary Posted On : August 16th, 2021
National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

In a simplified way, it is often said that IIM Lucknow is better and a lot of factors are in favor. However, both NITIE and IIM Lucknow have their fair share of advantages.

  • NITIE is comparably old and has a strong and wide alumni base. And as a student, the alumni base of any college helps immensely.
  • NITIE has a tag of “Mecca for OPS and SCM”. The students in NITIE get job roles in OPS and SCM which sometimes aren't even offered in the big 3 IIMs as per their alumni. So if you are interested in OPS or SCM then they should opt for NITIE. NITIE is a far better choice for Operations and SCM in terms of the course fee, placements, environment, etc.

Here is a brief comparison of the two institutes.

Parameters  NITIE  IIM Lucknow
Average CTC  20 LPA  58 LPA
Highest CTC  44 LPA  23 LPA
Major recruiters  EY, IDFC First, ETLI Deloitte, Flipkart, Jio, Amazon
Course Fee  11.33 lakhs  19.25 lakhs

Else wise, you can go for IIM L.

Which would be better: Taking admission in PGDIE in NITIE, Mumbai through GATE or join a PSU and do an executive MBA from a good institute after about 7 years?

PG
Pritam Ghose Posted On : August 26th, 2021
PGDIM from NITIE (2020)

A friend of mine worked with a PSU for some time and then appeared for the GATE exam and joined NITIE PGDIE. Leaving the PSU and choosing something else is a personal decision. It depends on your perspective.

In your case, joining after 7 years seems like a long-term plan. You can end up not joining any course after 7 years. So, make sure why you want to join a course after seven years, is it for the degree or salary hike.

If you are going for it for the degree then it can be done by joining any institute. There’s no need to join NITIE specifically. If you are doing it for the salary hike then too, you can join any institute. There is no differentiation based on which institute you are from, in PSUs. All the students having a Master’s degree are treated equally. Then there are options for joining private institutions such as NITIE which is a good option too.

What is the subject-wise marks distribution for the GATE PI (Production and Industrial Engineering) branch? What was the cut-off for NITIE for the GATE PI for previous years?

AK

Studies Production and Industrial Engineering at NITIE (2021)

The mark distribution listed below is rather approximate to what is usually witnessed. It generally changes from one year to another, depending on various aspects.

  • Engineering Mathematics: 15 marks
  • General Aptitude: 15 marks
  • Production (subtopics include, conventional manufacturing process, metrology, non-traditional manufacturing): 30 - 35 marks
  • Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Operations Research: Approx. 15 - 20 marks
  • Quality and Reliability: 5 - 10 marks
  • Core Engineering (SOM, Design, Thermal, Fluid mechanics): 15 - 20 marks.

You should go through the previous year’s papers to acquire a clearer idea. As a GM student, you will need to score around 65 - 70 marks, or 800 to 850 in GATE to secure an interview call. Here are the expected cut-off marks of the GATE scores.

Criteria GATE Scores
General 720 to 760 +
OBC, NCL 550 +
SC 500 +
ST 420+

Hope this helps answer your question.

Is job experience necessary for getting into NITIE Mumbai through GATE?

NG
Neeraj Girdhar Posted On : August 20th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

No, it is not necessary to have work experience to get into NITIE Mumbai through GATE. NITIE Mumbai, like any other college, tries to diversify its batch so that every recruiter who visits the campus for placement gets the student profile they are looking for.

  • Candidates with no experience (freshers) to people who have 4-5 years of work experience also join NITIE Mumbai.
  • This college is known for supply chain management across India.
  • Thus many companies visiting the campus focus on candidates having prior experience in this sector.
  • So work experience candidates may have a better chance than others but that again depends on your previous sector.

In short, you do not necessarily need work experience to get into NITIE Mumbai through GATE. But then it depends on various other factors like past academic records, GATE scores, extra-curricular activities, and many more.

I am a production and industrial engineer who got placed in Trident (Barnala). Meanwhile I have the option of joining NITIE (elite institute for PI engineers). What should I do?

VR
Vishal Roy Posted On : August 11th, 2021
MBA from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

A few years back, one of my friends faced a similar situation as you. You should go for option 2 i.e. opt for NITIE Mumbai reason being the following.

  • Firstly it is a great college and leaving it for Trident Group could be your mistake if you want to go for PG in your career.
  • The second being Trident Group pays handsomely, but the money while working there will not be satisfactory especially for employees who have come from an engineering background.
  • I have friends who worked there and according to him, 70 percent of campus recruitment employees leave Trident Group to shape their future because of which this company has deteriorated.
  • At last, you will get a very good job after passing out from NITIE.

So, choose wisely and make the right decision for yourself.

In between a PSU and NITIE what should I choose?

SK
Sajid Khan Posted On : August 18th, 2021
PGDPM from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

One of my friends has recently encountered a similar situation and can describe the event better. Here is what he has to say,

  1. In his last organization, he acquired the chance to engage in work with a graduate of NITIE, Mumbai.
  2. His ideas, perspectives, and thinking process were mildly different from most others. His concepts often came up better.
  3. There can however be a slight skew of the packages when necessarily compared to PSU. However, the takeaway from a B-school is usually considered better in every cause whatsoever. Yes, you might as well find similar talent in PSUs, but the learning environment at any B-school is highly optimized and gigantically improved.

From the parameters mentioned above, it can be evaluated that PSU is a good choice nonetheless. However, a B-school like NITIE definitely arrives with a lot more offers than usual. It reaps more benefits over the time period than is generally anticipated. Thus, choose wisely.

How much 10th, 12th and graduation percentage matters to get admission in NITIE through GATE?

RS
Rachita Sen Posted On : August 16th, 2021
Studied at the National Institute of Industrial Engineering

I have a few friends who graduated from NITIE, so I think I can give you some insight regarding the admission procedure. The academic scores of your 10th, 12th, and graduation do matter to get in NITIE through entrance exams.

Here is the weightage distribution for selection.

  • 50% weightage is given on the CAT exam or the GATE exam percentile score.
  • 35% weightage given on Academic Records of 10th,12th, and graduation.
  • 15% weightage given on GD round and Personal Interview (PI).

Your work experience also matters. However, having a low score during your school or college should not discourage you as NITIE puts more emphasis on the GD and PI rounds.

Which to choose between NITIE, IIM Kashipur, Rohtak & Raipur?

HN
Hardik Nagar Posted On : January 24th, 2023
IIM Kashipur

Choose wisely by taking all B school reports with a level of caution. Instead of quitting your job and enrolling in a school where you might get a placement that is below average, opt for an Executive MBA if you are currently employed and secure. In this situation, you should choose NITIE because of its location in Mumbai, which is crucial for attracting top employers for placements.

For at least the next ten years, stay away from all new IIMs. It is not recommended at all to enroll in business schools that are less than 15 years old after leaving a secure job because they take at least 15-20 years to establish themselves. Only when your salary is between 3 and 4 LPAs should you think about enrolling in a new or infant IIM. Alternatively, you could try switching to a better organization that will likely pay you more money.

Do academic marks matter at all in summer placements in NITIE, Mumbai?

SA
Shruti Agarwal Posted On : August 12th, 2021
Studied at NITIE Mumbai (2019)

According to my friends studying at NITIE Mumbai, there are many important points regarding academics and summer placements:

  • Many companies come for placements and summer internships.
  • Your marks or skills are determined by the company.
  • There are several companies that fix a cutoff criterion to take part in their placement process. The candidates above the cut-off need not worry about the marks.
  • Some companies have strict HR policies in which academics are given more preference. The more your grades are the better chance you have of making it through.
  • Academics and personality are given more leverage.
  • Some companies don’t have any HR policies at all. They just give a guideline regarding the placement process to be kept short.
  • They also use a cutoff method (2 points) at least.

The candidates having low grades or academic performance can try for their placement with the Student Placement Committee. This helps to push your CV through the cutoff.
