Which one is better for MTech programmes in ECE, NIT Surathkal or IIT Guwahati?

PS
Pratik Sharma Posted On : March 20th, 2023
B tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal

IIT Guwahati is one of the top engineering institutions in India and has a well-established ECE program with a strong focus on research. The institution has state-of-the-art facilities and offers many opportunities for collaboration and networking with other leading institutions in India and around the world.

Both NIT Surathkal and IIT Guwahati are excellent choices for pursuing an MTech program in ECE. You should consider your personal preferences, career goals, and research interests when making a decision between the two. It's also recommended to visit the campuses, speak to current students and alumni, and explore the curriculum and research opportunities to make an informed decision.

However, when considering the choice between IIT Guwahati and NIT Surathkal for MTech programs in ECE, it is important to note that while both institutions offer excellent programs, the brand and reputation of IITs are highly valued by companies. Therefore, the tag of IIT may carry more weight in the eyes of potential employers.

If you're considering pursuing a career in chemical engineering, you might be wondering which institute and program to choose. Here are some considerations to keep in mind:

  • CST at IIT Guwahati has a huge research scope and the advantage of being an older IIT. This might be a good option for you if you're interested in research and development.
  • On the other hand, if you're specifically interested in government jobs, you might want to consider the civil program at IIT Bbs.
  • The immense scope of research at CST might also enable you to pursue higher studies abroad after graduation, such as an MS or M.Eng degree.
  • Even if you want to settle for a job immediately after graduation, CST graduates can get placed in chemical/FMCG companies.
  • The courses offered at CST revolve around organic and inorganic aspects of chemistry, and sometimes the program is called Engineering Chemistry.

Overall, when deciding between programs, it's important to consider your career goals, interests, and priorities. You may also want to look into the specific course offerings, research opportunities, and placement records at each institute to help you make an informed decision.

Which is better, IIT Guwahati or DTU?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : July 6th, 2023

Without any second thoughts go for IIT Guwahati instead of DTU. Consider the points below if you aren’t convinced already.

  • Campus: IIT Guwahati has a far more beautiful campus than DTU and also enjoys a better location than DTU.
  • Batch Size: The increasing intake of DTU is now an alarming concern while IIT Guwahati still maintains a small batch size. A small batch size improves the placement opportunities and individual attention from professors.
  • Infrastructure: IIT Guwahati being an IIT, has better infrastructure and campus facilities than DTU.
  • Placements: IIT Guwahati and DTU have similar recruiters but the same company offers more roles and better packages in IIT Guwahati than DTU.
  • Brand Name: The IIT tag especially of the old IITs is any day better than any other institute.
  • Diversity: IIT Guwahati has a more diverse student crowd than DTU because DTU has a reservation for Delhites.

In all, it can be safely concluded that IIT Guwahati is a far better choice than DTU.

Which IIT has the most liberal branch change rules (apart from Mandi and Gandhinagar)?

IIT Guwahati might be a good choice if you are looking for a branch change. You will be allowed a branch change with a lower CGPA at Guwahati compared to other IITs. It is always better to first opt for the branch you are interested in. The competition level is very high for a branch change, especially in reputed institutions like IIT Mandi, and you need to strive hard for a branch change. So you can go with the option of IIT Guwahati.

Which is better for ChE, IIT BHU or IIT Guwahati?

AG
Aparna Ghosal Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2019)

Both institutions are equally good and reputed so it’s difficult to determine which institute is better. As IIT BHU is an old institution it offers a large alumni base which results in excellent placement. In 2019 a total of 104 students from chemical engineering was employed. The average salary package ranged between 10 LPA to 58.21 LPA. Whereas there was 71% placement for chemical engineering in IIT Guwahati with average placement package 15.5 LPA. IIT BHU is comparatively better in terms of placement.

For research, IIT Guwahati stands out because of its immaculate infrastructure in addition to well-equipped labs, course curriculum, faculties, and methodologies of teaching. In the field of research activities, it is way ahead of IIT-BHU.

Which one should I join: the NIT Surathkal's M.Tech in CSE or the IIT Guwahati's M.Tech in theoretical computer science?

SG
Sushmita Guha Posted On : June 28th, 2021
Studied at IIT Kharagpur (2019)

Getting a master’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from one of the Indian Universities can feel like being stuck in a place forever.

  • If you do not take IISc and the top IITs, no other University or college in India provides a good quality program for Master’s in Computer Science.
  • NIT Surathkal is popular for its B.Tech in CSE but not for the Master’s program that the college has to offer.
  • It would be advised for you to prefer IIT Guwahati any day since it has been ranked among the Top 8 IITs in the country.
  • Several of the recent IITs have been created to serve the purposes of the states.
  • These IITs are managed by one of the top 5 IITs in India.
  • Most candidates would certainly choose IIT Guwahati over NIT Surathkal for an M.Tech program.
  • Assuming you are studying M.Tech to learn, not to get a job then you should definitely prefer IIT Guwahati over NIT Surathkal.
  • If you want a job, there are several more ways to do that.
  • If you are skilled enough to get admission at IIT Guwahati then you can have a decent job in hand in the future.

If you want to pursue a Master’s program and learn, you would be way ahead in IIT Guwahati than in NIT Surathkal.

Should I choose IIT Bhubaneswar MEC or IIT Guwahati civil?

AJ
Adwait Jain Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar

First of all, it depends on your interest whether you want to pursue engineering in Mechanical or Civil, and only then you can decide the better college. As the engineering branches are different it’s difficult to pick one college over the other.

Comparing the two courses in terms of placements offered last year, we see 83% of the Mechanical branch students got placed in IIT Bhubaneswar with average CTC 11.4 LPA. 77% of the Civil students in IITG got placed last year. The average package offered in IIT Guwahati was around 11 LPA while the highest went up to 39 LPA.

Being the older IIT, the infrastructure of IITG is good and the placements for both the core as well as the non-core sectors are also quite good. IIT Bhubaneswar has been showing good numbers in recent years and is developing gradually.

You can also look for some other options for mechanical other than IIT Bhubaneswar. If you manage to get a good score in Mains, you can look for admission in old NIT where you will get better future opportunities also good placement packages. While IIT Guwahati being an older institute is expected to attract many of the major recruiters from all the sectors and provide good CTC.

So, choose the college based on your branch of interest.
