MAHE and VKF Collaborate for Research Incubation Facility for Geographical Indications (GIs) in Manipal; Check Details Here

New Delhi: The Vision Karnataka Foundation (VKF) and Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) have jointly inaugurated a research-centric incubation facility dedicated to products with geographical indications (GIs) in Manipal.

The MAHE & VKF incubation program aims to cultivate, construct, and boost livelihood clusters in the Udupi region, focusing on communities associated with the Udupi Mattu Gulla and Shankarpura (Udupi) Mallige clusters with Geographical Indications (GIs). Subsequently, it will extend its scope to encompass other GIs cultivated in Karnataka through the progressive incubation program.

However, Vivesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre (VTCP), the pivotal agency for promoting international trade and products tagged with geographical indications from Karnataka, was also present during this occasion.

All About the MAHE and VKF Collaboration

Under the terms of the agreement, VKF will offer support and assistance to Geographical Indication (GI) farmers, self-help groups (SHGs), and other stakeholders. This support aims to improve product quality, enhance marketability, and establish stronger market linkages for GI-tagged products.

Further, the VKF plans to establish Common Facility Centers (CFC) as part of the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Cluster Development Programme (CDP) scheme, facilitating crucial value addition to these GI-tagged products.

The president of VKF, Kishor Jagirdar, expressed pride in the foundation's collaboration with the commerce department and MAHE to introduce a groundbreaking research-based incubation facility.

This initiative is unique in the country, focusing on incubation for Geographical Indication (GI) tagged communities involved in market linkage activities. The incubation facility extends support to various activities, including product design, branding, packing and packaging, legal considerations, standardization, value addition, exploration of digital marketplaces, and other strategic endeavors.

The Vice-Chancellor of MAHE Faculty, MD Venkatesh, conveyed his excitement about the initiative, stating that this collaboration represents a significant milestone in the pursuit of sustainable development and community empowerment. At MAHE, they are dedicated to nurturing innovation and education that positively impacts society at large.
