How to Edit the GATE 2027 Application Form
The steps follow the process described by IIT Madras and by news reports on the window. Menu labels on the portal may differ slightly.
- Step 1: Open the official website, gate2027.iitm.ac.in, and click Login, or go straight to goaps.iitm.ac.in/login.
- Step 2: Sign in with your GATE Enrolment ID and password.
- Step 3: On the dashboard, check your application status. A defective application shows a message explaining what to fix.
- Step 4: Click the correction or edit application link that appears while the window is open.
- Step 5: Select the details you want to change. Fields that cannot be edited stay locked.
- Step 6: Upload any supporting document the change needs, such as a name-change PDF or the SC/ST category certificate.
- Step 7: Pay the additional fee if the change carries one. Pay before submitting, and wait for the payment to show as successful.
- Step 8: Review the whole form, not just the fields you changed, and submit.
- Step 9: Download the revised application and keep a copy of the fee receipt.
Note: If the status reads “Under Scrutiny: Defect Rectification Done”, the corrections have been received, and the application goes back for scrutiny. “Application accepted” means no further action is needed.

Tips Before You Submit Corrections in GATE Form
- Log in early: Last-day traffic on application portals is heavy, and IIT Madras does not entertain changes after the window closes.
- Check paper and category first: These two fields change the fee and the cut-off that applies to you, and they are the costliest to reverse.
- Match your photo ID: The ID named in the application is the one to carry to the exam hall. It must be an original, valid document, not a photocopy.
- Keep the DigiLocker account: Future communication goes only to the DigiLocker account used for the application.
- Handle payment failures calmly: If money is debited without an acknowledgement from GATE 2027, IIT Madras says it is credited back, which can take about fifteen working days. Extra payments for one application are returned the same way.
- Do not wait on a deadline extension: The official dates carry a note that they are liable to change, but the site still shows 21 October as the closing date.

City allotment is notified on 4 January 2027, and the admit card is released after that on the website only. The exam runs over three weekends in February 2027, and results are due on 19 March 2027.
