Can you tell us about your journey and experiences in the hospitality industry? How did you transition from being an Assistant housekeeper to your current role as HOD of training and placements?

My journey in the hospitality industry has been quite fulfilling. I began as an Assistant Housekeeper, where I gained valuable insights into maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and guest satisfaction. Over time, I dedicated myself to continuous learning and professional growth, leading me to pursue advanced education in hotel management. After completing my studies, I was fortunate to be offered the role of Head of Department (HOD) for Training and Placements at a prestigious hotel management college in Hyderabad.

In my current capacity, I oversee the college’s training and placement programs, ensuring that our students receive excellent education and hands-on experience. It’s a role that allows me to impart my knowledge and experiences to the next generation of hospitality professionals, which is incredibly rewarding.


As a career counselor for hotel management aspirants, what strategies do you employ to guide students towards the right career paths?

As a career counselor for hotel management aspirants, I utilize various strategies to steer students towards suitable career paths. Encouraging students to gain hands-on experience through internships and part-time jobs is crucial. I help them find suitable opportunities that complement their studies and provide real-world exposure. Building a professional network is essential in the hospitality industry. I advise students on how to network effectively, attend industry events, and connect with professionals.

In addition to technical skills, I emphasize the importance of soft skills such as communication, leadership, and problem-solving. I recommend resources and workshops to enhance these skills. I maintain an ongoing relationship with students, providing support and guidance as they progress in their hotel management journey. This includes assisting with job searches, interview preparation, and career advancement strategies.


What unique initiatives Regency undertake to bridge the gap between industry requirements and academic curriculum?

At Regency, we have implemented several unique initiatives to bridge the gap between industry requirements and our academic curriculum. We have established strong partnerships with leading hotels and hospitality organizations. These partnerships provide us with valuable insights into the industry’s evolving needs and trends, allowing us to tailor our curriculum accordingly. We incorporate live projects into the curriculum, where students work on real challenges faced by hotels. This encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and the application of theoretical knowledge.

In addition to technical skills, we prioritize soft skills development. Our curriculum includes modules on communication, leadership, and guest relations, which are highly valued by the industry. We conduct regular reviews of our curriculum, ensuring it remains up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies. This agile approach allows us to make timely adjustments as needed. We actively seek feedback from alumni and industry partners to gauge the effectiveness of our curriculum. This feedback loop helps us make data-driven improvements.

What are some of the challenges you face in your role as HOD of training and placements and how do you overcome them?

In my role as HOD of Training and Placements, I encounter several challenges. This position demands a significant amount of hard work and patience. Success is not solely based on luck but rather a combination of dedication and responsibility. I carry the weight of ensuring that every student reaches their milestones and becomes a brand ambassador for our college. Challenges are an integral part of life, and it’s the trust the college has placed in me, along with the support of my family, that keeps me motivated. In a competitive job market, how do you prepare your students to stand out during job interviews and secure employment in their desired roles?

In today’s highly competitive job market, we understand the need for our students to stand out during interviews. To prepare them effectively, we conduct mock interviews, providing them with a glimpse of real interview scenarios. Additionally, we offer specialized classes known as RCE (Regency College of Excellence), tailored to specific departments, which guide students on the right path.


Can you share an example of a student you have mentored or guided, who went on to achieve remarkable success in their career?

I have had the privilege of mentoring and guiding numerous students, and many of them have achieved remarkable success in their careers. Our alumni have secured positions in prestigious cruise companies and top hotel brands, reaching significant milestones in their respective fields.


What is your approach to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment for your students?

Creating a positive and supportive learning environment is crucial. It should be a place where students eagerly explore new knowledge and think creatively. Encouraging students to think beyond the ordinary and embrace innovative ideas is central to our approach.


Apart from academics, what soft skills do you believe are crucial for success in the hospitality industry, and how do you help students develop them?

Communication skills are paramount for success in the hospitality industry. Effective communication can be the key to overcoming many challenges. To help students develop this skill, we offer dedicated soft skills classes. These classes not only enhance communication but also help students overcome stage fear and become more confident professionals.


As a professional with extensive experience, what advice would you give to aspiring educators and professionals in the hospitality industry?

My advice to aspiring educators and professionals in the hospitality industry is simple yet powerful, follow your instincts, work smart, and work hard. Challenges will inevitably come your way, but never give up. Maintain a positive attitude, smile in the face of adversity, and keep moving forward. These qualities, combined with a passion for hospitality, will pave the way for a successful and fulfilling career.
