He worked as a hospitality professional and educational trainer for the last 14 years prior to his Industrial experience. He is a Graduate in Hospitality Administration and Catering Technology and pursuing post graduate in Masters in Travel and Tourism Management.

What are the key factors that keeps you connected with the education sector?

“Passion to share knowledge with youths of our country”

The luxury knowledge sharing space is ever evolving, especially in India, luxury education has sporadically changed over the last few years. This constant evolution and engagement with the youth of our country is what keeps me connected to the education sector. Education is all about the next, tomorrow, the future and this is what is exciting about this sector. 


How would you describe your leadership style?

“I believe in team work and growth of everyone”

At IAM the leadership philosophy has a vision. We as an educator often write philosophies as a guiding statement for reference while leading the students. Generally, at IAM the leadership philosophies include the following components: theory, attitude, guiding principles and behavior.


How do you strategize the key programs for the marketing and administration of your institution?

At IAM we believe in setting the students apart from the crowd by the leveraging them various facilities. We emphasize the most marketable strengths, consider developing target personas based on past students who came to our institution to prepare for specific careers. We do have students from different religions, races, cultures and economic backgrounds. IAM students get the positive effects of diversity, which enable students to work with people from other races, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds and challenge the views they are accustomed to. This leads to greater awareness and understanding in the students.


What are your roles and responsibilities?

“To ensure the best guidance for them and also that their requirements are getting fulfilled on time”

As a coordinator, my role and responsibilities are to ensure that all the student’s expectation is fulfilled on time and their doubts are getting cleared on time. Apart from that I personally keep an eye on individual student growth and capabilities to create better opportunities for them so that they can upskill themselves and face this competitive world with full confidence.


What do you think should be the Institute’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“To bring best educational accomplishments for students and admission statistics for college”

In the upcoming years, our top priority would be to improve its academic performance and student success by attaining a rich and diverse classroom culture that fuels a passion for lifetime learning. Including this, we are also focusing on increasing student enrolment and retention in our institute by maintaining the quality of degrees and programs at a very reasonable cost.


When you first came IAM Kolkata what was your vision for the institution?

When I first came to IAM, my vision was very clear as to develop the institution into a center of academic excellence and to provide opportunities to obtain valuable information about teaching techniques and skills.


What would you like people to know about your institute they may not know?

“We offer best learning framework and growth opportunities”

We give special emphasis on the four icons-learning to learn, learning to do, learning to be and learning to become. Here the students are developed to be better individuals and better professionals for future leadership roles across the entire hospitality industry.


What are the greatest strengths of your college?

“Our alumni’s are the backbone of our institute”

The greatest strength of our college is our alumni across the globe who are ruling the hospitality industry. All students have been professionally trained to be industry-ready and set up a new horizon for the upcoming budding hoteliers.


What are some of the biggest challenges you see in the education system in general?

“Traditional education system is theory-based instead of experiments and this itself is the biggest challenge”

One of the challenges that we observe at IAM Kolkata is that the general education system, is mostly theory-based, whereas we focus on hands-on training. We are well equipped with a basic training kitchen, advance training kitchen, quantity training kitchen, bakery cum confectionery lab, training restaurant, mock bar, housekeeping lab, dining hall, front office reception and lobby, restaurant cum banquet hall and well-equipped library. These help the students at IAM to reflect the demand for lifelong learning and to cope with the technological and social changes brought by the fourth industrial revolution.


How do you establish a healthy relation and environment in your institute?

“I do use the tool of effective and open communication”

We know that positive and productive learning environments are key to students' academic, emotional and social success in college. Hence to make communication healthy with my students and fellow faculty, I generally use a few techniques such as good interpersonal communication through the exchange of ideas and hence try to their issues and doubts through the various approaches. This type of environment gives a feeling sense of belonging. To ensure maximum participation by students I do conduct activities such as group discussions, general meetings, etc.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Do expertise on your soft as well hard skills and choose career path accordingly”

My suggestion to the current youth and the aspiring students to be successful hoteliers is to master your soft skill set, consider enrolling in higher education, know what you want to specialize in and undertake an industry-specific internship as per your interest and passion.
