Placement in SRM Chennai was quite fine being from hotel management background I saw many five star hotels coming for campus interview for selecting students and it was in the third year we got placement in the college. The five star hotel which visited our campus were : Hyatt Regency Chennai, J W Marriot, Taj Group of hotels, Starwoods, The Park and The Oberois these were some of the finest hotel which came for recruitment and the hiring was done based on department wise interview that is to say if the student has chosen kitchen as his career then he had to give food trial which included 3 course menu and he or she was selected based on food trial and interview given before. Each department had its own offer to make that is to say that selection was done for hotel operations trainee and management level trainee and these 2 posts were common in the four main departments of the hotel and the average salary offered was 3 to 4 lakhs per annum and it all depend on interview given

Internships Opportunities:

The internship program at SRM IHM and all the IHM’s in India is mandatory in the 2nd year. To talk about my experience our batch was divided into groups A and B according to names and roll number I belonged to B batch so my internship was on winter session that is from November 2009 to March 2010 and my hotel was Park Hyatt Goa Resort and Spa. The stipend monthly paid was 1000rs only and most of my training was in Banquets Kitchen and then I moved to housekeeping department. In the kitchen my main work was to be buffet runner that is to replenish food items which had been consumed and all this was given to me by Chef De Cuisine of the kitchen. I learnt the practicality of the industry and the hardwork behind it. Whereas in the housekeeping department my main work was to check the minibar in the guest room. Initially it was quite hectic but later on during practice it became easy and in this I learnt the proper guest service and the hospitality provided to the guest.

Campus Life:

Spandan was our annual fest where we used to get the opportunity to showcase our talent and used to get lots of fun. We had one of the biggest libraries in the region. Our classrooms were fully equipped with furniture, internet, Podium, blackboard and Projector. We had games day every year

I chose HM because I thought this is the field where I can contribute my best version. As hospitality was in my blood. We had some amazing faculties and a good number of students. The teaching method was great too and we used to have midterm exams and end term exams.

In my campus life it was great we have debates on day today news. Than we have practical of making food of different cuisines. Our male ratio will be as 65% and the girl ratio will be of 35%. Mostly girls are interested in front office subject. And the males all are interested in production and beverage.

The fees for each year is Rs.75,000/- which is exclusive of other fees like prospectus fees (Rs.1,000/-) and other fees for exams, admission, smart ID, uniform, and tool kit charges. It is quite feasible but those who aren't able to pay can opt for student loan easily.

Admission:

The eligibility criteria for this course was clearance in 12th exams after which I had to register online on their website. They selected the students on merit and interview basis and only 60 students are selected for every batch.

Remarks:

I did 2 years Diploma in hotel management & catering technology course from the NIHM. It gave a boost to my career. I had experience in the hotel industry, and purpose for doing a hotel management course is to an extra edge in my field. When I enquired about the best hotel management courses in Bengal, NIHM was the one which stood out, and quite rightfully so. I am fully satisfied with my choice.

Placement Experience:

The good thing is that the IHM also allow students from certificate course to sit into the placement process. International as well Inidan outlets like SUBWAY, Dominos Pizza, Java Green, Barista, Pantaloons, Idea, Tanishque visit the campus for the placement process. Apart from that IHM also invite many five star hotels for the placement process.
