Mr. Anirban Chatterjie is the Faculty in Food and Beverage Service Management of the Institute of Hotel Management. He graduated in Hospitality and Hotel Management from IHM Taratala, Kolkata. He also worked as the Hotel Manager in properties across Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai. Mr. Chatterjee assists in the job and internship placement process of students.

What is your leadership philosophy? 

“Build a team and deliver quality education to pupils”

I believe that education is gained instead of commanded. It is implemented by teamwork. A successful leader inspires the entire team and leads them. I have developed the leadership style of IAM in this way. We achieve success in delivering quality education as a team. It keeps the unity of a team. 

What are your roles and responsibilities?

“To give quality education, campus placement, and facilities for students”

My primary role is to provide quality hospitality education to the students across all years. It undergoes a positive transformation from girls and boys to ladies and gentlemen. We assist the campus placement process and industry exposure to pupils. I always update industry knowledge and curricular facilities with them. It maintains a workspace discipline and harmony.

What are the prime factors that connect you with the education sector?

“Update with industrial norms and quality education for students”

One of the factors that connect me with the education sector is a continuous interface to educate pupils. Updates with industrial norms and self-research are essential in a curriculum. It aids in providing quality education for students. 

How do you strategize programs for the marketing and administration of IAM?

“Host seminars, counseling, industrial speakers, and online webinars for students”

The campus is student-centric. We have provided quality education over the last three decades for all candidates. Hosting seminars for prospective students, pre-admission counseling, familiarization of college facilities for schools, and online webinars are the marketing activities on campus. It helps the admission of a large number of pupils. 

What is your vision for the institution? 

“Professionally develop an education and impart industry knowledge”

I became part of the institution for almost three decades. I like to share my industry knowledge with students for further education. It develops as an education professional and the campus becomes a perfect foil. Our strength came from the guidance of the management. Education policies and curriculum revised multiple times, and update industry trends in mind. The covid outbreak brings a strong shift in vision towards the betterment of education. However, the management relied on me to be an active part of the implementation process over the last 5 years. It aids to look after overall students' betterment, developing curriculum, and campus placement programs that ensure better placements.

What do you like people to know about your IAM?

“Huge network of alumni working in India and abroad”

The campus maintains a connection with a huge network of alumni working in India and abroad. Most of them are not known to be from this college. People must know about the same. The campus is the winner of multiple prestigious awards in the field of hospitality. This is a prospective asset for students.

What are the greatest strengths of IAM?

One of the greatest strengths of campus is students in the past and present. They have graduated and are now settled all across the globe as leaders in the field of hospitality, hotels, and guest services. Some of them are successful entrepreneurs. What are the challenges you see for higher education and IAM Kolkata?

“Fear in the student's mind during the pandemic period”

The biggest challenge faced by higher education and campus is fear in the mind of students to enroll for courses. It is due to the epidemic. The parents are worried about investing a bulk amount in education. On another side, mass vaccination all across the country and jobs opening avoid their fears. We tackle all the challenges through covid protocols.

Any suggestions do you like to give to the aspiring students?

“Believe in the education system and perform well in studies”

My suggestion to current youth is to believe in the education system. It helps them to perform best towards studies. One should pursue education without any peer pressure. This ensures a better career.
