Mr. Ajit Kumar Mahapatra currently works as the HOD (Civil Engineering) in Barunei Institute of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar. He has an experience of 10 years in the areas of Teaching, Research, Academic Administration and Pedagogical Activities. He did his BTech. and MTech. from Biju Patnaik University of Technology. Many of his articles have been published in Journals.

What is your leadership philosophy?

In my view, effective teaching requires a deep understanding of the subject matter and strong leadership skills. I credit my parents with instilling in me a sense of leadership.

What are your responsibilities towards the students?

We are offering B. Tech and Diploma in Computer Science Engineering Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering at our institute. Along with the academia, we are providing regular training and placement which is imparted in the area of communication skills and aptitude. This enables us to prepare the students for the job market.”

How do you tend to establish a healthy relationship and environment in your college?

At our institution, we prioritize treating our students with the same care and attention as we would our own children. We demonstrate genuine affection and support towards them, as this plays a crucial role in their growth. Our welcoming atmosphere, which has been noted by many, further reinforces these values. Personally, I make a point to guide and assist students in a manner similar to that of a parent, with the ultimate goal of nurturing their potential to become the best versions of themselves.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach to subjects?

In the Civil Engineering department, practical classes are being conducted in the strength of materials lab, surveying lab, hydraulics lab, concrete and highway lab, soil lab and water and wastewater engineering lab. In the surveying department, students are trained in the tool total station to determine the area of a large plot of land. We are constantly updating the laboratory equipment and training students in the new equipment.”

How does your college prepare students for placements?

Since the second year, we have been offering training placements in different subjects. We ask objective questions and train the students by offering laboratory courses and testing in the laboratories. We send the students to the industrial sectors during their vacations to learn about the industrial sector. We also introduce new materials that are coming on the market and teach different subjects.”

How does the college enhance the skills of the faculty and prepare them according to the industry standards?

My professors are revising their research papers and publishing them in different journals. There are new drafts and new products for what they are preparing. They are publishing their papers in different journals. They are constantly updating their knowledge.

Any valuable advice which you would like to give to the students to have a prosperous career ahead?

I believe that hard work is the only way to achieve success because it allows you to develop important skills, gain experience, and build a foundation for long-term success, unlike short-term fixes that may provide short-term results but don’t last.
