Mr. Nitul Jyoti Das is Assam Down Town University’s Deputy Registrar of Academics since 2019. Before this, he was the Academic Officer at ADTU and the Project Officer for Down Town Hospital for almost six years. He has worked in many organizations like Insight Brandcom Pvt. Ltd, etc. Mr. Das completed his PGDM in marketing from the BLS Institute of Management, Ghaziabad.

Being the part of ADTU, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students? 

Our primary goal is to offer comprehensive professional education and training to all students, covering various aspects of the management discipline. We are committed to continuously enhancing our instructional methods, delivery techniques, and course content to ensure that our students stay updated with the ever-changing corporate landscape. We actively strive to support our student's growth and promote quality improvements, preparing them to confidently navigate the challenges of the corporate world. Additionally, we take the initiative to contribute to the improvement of education at large by introducing innovative approaches and methodologies. 


What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

I advise students to concentrate on their strengths. Do not let failure scare you, and always keep striving for excellence. Success will follow you. Have a vision and try to pursue what you love. Develop a desire to succeed and to keep learning. It will keep you competitive and help you stay ahead of the curve. Also, it is important to never wait for opportunities, you need to create them.


What do you see as the department’s/ university’s greatest strengths and how it can be enhanced?

At our university, we prioritize individual attention and responsiveness to ensure a personalized learning experience for each student. We believe in providing hands-on experiences that enable students to apply their knowledge in practical settings. Our cooperative learning approach fosters an environment of active participation through group discussions and encourages the integration of technology, such as presentations, live projects, and experiential learning, to enhance learning outcomes. We also understand the importance of continuous improvement and offer the opportunity for students to retake certain tests, allowing them to reinforce their understanding of the subject matter. How does the curriculum of ADTU ensure the best practice of the industry?

ADTU has designed various course curricula with We have courses such as HR, Marketing, Finance, IT, and Operations. These courses are made as per the industry expectations and come with live examples, case Studies, and live projects. We have an earn while learning scheme that enables students to make money while they are studying. We also have extensive research facilities for the students to hone their research and analytical skills.


When you came to the Institute, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

Our university is committed to the entire process of learning, designing, developing, and teaching courses. Our aim is to be a dynamic centre of innovation and creativity, dedicated to providing high-quality teaching that inspires lifelong learning. We strongly believe in the continuous process of self-development and learning, recognizing that personal growth is a lifelong journey. With a firm belief in ourselves and our abilities, we strive to achieve our vision by implementing ideas in a systematic and step-by-step manner. 


What are the challenges you faced/ are facing to uplift the quality of education of your University?

Nowadays, each and every sector is facing severe competition. This makes finding new jobs and the right career opportunities hard for new students. To make our students employable and industry-ready professionals, ADTU is working continuously and systematically towards the successful fulfilment of its goals. We want our students to have not just the right technical knowledge but the correct interpersonal skills as well.


Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real world challenges?

We have different extracurricular activities held under various ADTU Clubs. Some of our clubs are sports, dance, music, drama, literary, art, yoga, landscape, photography, and cinema. We are continuously organising various events throughout the year for the greater interest of the students. Additionally, our university also has the NSS and NCC units, and our students are actively participating in them.


How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?

We encourage our students to develop a competitive spirit so that they can cope with the highly competitive world. We do this by adopting engaging teaching methods and teaching our faculty to generate interest in the students. We involve the students in the teaching and learning process. We also hold skills development which are essential to land jobs today.


What are your views upon the placements and higher education about the students from your university or How does the university prepare students for higher education?

Placement plays a pivotal role in the successful completion of graduate or postgraduate coursework. Every student aspires to secure a position in top multinational corporations to accomplish their goals and objectives. At our university, a significant number of students have achieved successful placements in various industries. Moreover, our expert career counsellors provide guidance to students based on their interests, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding higher education. As a result, a substantial proportion of our students choose to pursue advanced degrees, further enhancing their knowledge and skills.

How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it gets updated to make it befitting for the students?

Our university has adopted strategic planning for the revision of our curriculum. We do this by taking feedback from all the stakeholders through PAC and BoS. Moreover, we have constant internal monitoring and a periodic and annual internal review of our curriculum so that we have updated it to fit the latest trends and industry requirements.


What are the best practices offered by the department to the students which help them gain the necessary skills?

The dedicated faculties of the department are giving continuous and systematic efforts for developing necessary skills among students. Some of the skills that we aim for our students to inculcate are adaptive thinking, communication skills, collaboration skills, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, soft skills, creativity and innovation.
