Dr. S. Aneel Amrutha Raju is the Head of the MBA Department at St. John’s College Of Engineering and Technology. He holds a Ph.D. from Rayalaseema University, Kurnool. He has an experience of 18 years in the teaching field and has published 16 papers in national and international journals.

What are the factors that make this program the best for the students to opt for?

MBA is the best PG program that students can opt for. There are many factors that make the students to opt MBA program. The first factor is “Abundant opportunities available in the business field”. We cannot find huge opportunities in other sectors. Second factor is “Easy and faster settlement in the career”. Third factor is “Rapid growth in career” which is expected by every student. Fourth factor is the students can “improve their communication skills”. It is the only program in which students can improve and utilize their communication skills. Another important factor is “Generalized concepts”. The concepts that are available in the MBA program are generalized, which are easy to understand can be applied to solve business related problems. The students whoever have passion to start a business can opt for MBA program.


What are the best practices in the program you are doing?

We conduct various business and administrative related activities regularly for the students to improve their communication skills and another skill set, which every student has to acquire. We are conducting activities like ‘Group discussion and Debate programs’, which are helpful for them to improve communication skills as well as confidence. We conduct ‘Role-play and Case studies’ which help them to understand and make a decision in various situations. In the activity ‘ Product launch and Ad-enact’ they make presentation on new product launch by highlighting Product, Price, place and Promotional related aspects and they prepare and enact the advertisement . We conduct ‘Finsmart’, a financial related activity that helps them to make wise decisions on investments. The activity ‘Young Manager’ brings out the students’ analytical, perceptual and cognitive skills. We conduct ‘Business quiz’ to make them aware of CEOs, Company names, Logos and Brand ambassadors. We conduct ‘Mock interviews’ which helps the students to understand the interview process and how to face the interviews in a realistic world.


How does the program ensure that the students are being prepared for the future?

 This program provides updated knowledge on all the key ares of the business administration i.e., Production related aspects, Marketing related aspects, HR related aspects, as well as Financial related aspects. In Production management, we teach and highlight the concepts like plant location, plant layout, processes to be implemented, technology, scheduling, production techniques, quality control, quality standards, etc. In Marketing management, we teach and highlight concepts like product-related strategies, price related strategies, place and distribution related strategies, promotion related strategies etc. In Human resource management, we teach and highlight recruitment, selection, training, development, compensation, performance appraisal, motivation, etc. In Financial management, the major aspects are budget related decisions, capital budgeting, working capital management, allocation of funds and optimal utilization of funds etc.. The better understanding of all these aspects help the students to be prepared for the future.

How do you tend to build an industry connection with the program?

The program entirely is concerned with the business administration related activities as well as concepts, it is necessary to build industry connection. We keep on explaining the latest trends in business field to the students in our classrooms, and we invite HR managers, finance managers, and key persons from industries for guest lectures. We send our students to industrial tours which help them to understand and gain practical knowledge of the business related functions.


What were the challenges that you faced while including this program in your curriculum?

Most of the students were inclined towards the traditional degree like M.A, M.Sc, M.Com, B.Ed. They didn't have awareness of MBA. Few students and parents had awareness towards MBA program and they felt with this program, students won't get government jobs. This was the problem that we faced while including this program in our curriculum. We tried hard to bring awareness among the students as well as parents about our program, future opportunities available and the career growth in the business field. We explained all those things we communicated them personally. 


What are the types of projects that students are working on in this program?

 We are making them to do projects on marketing, hr and finance. They are doing projects on customer satisfaction, consumer behavior, impact of marketing mix, brand awareness and customer loyalty. In HR, we are making them do projects on recruitment and selection, training and development, employee motivation, employee satisfaction, performance appraisal, and so on. In Finance, we are making them do projects on working capital management, financial analysis of the company, capital budgeting, ratio analysis and comparison of different companies. 


What are the benefits and career options after pursuing these courses?

After pursuing this program, students have many career options. The interested students can start a business. They can become entrepreneurs. With good knowledge of marketing concepts, they can start career as a Sales executive, Marketing executive, Business development executive and Assistant marketing manager. With good knowledge of human resource concepts, they can start career as a HR executive and Assistant personnel manager. With good knowledge of finance concepts, they can start career as a Finance executive, Accounts executive, and Assistant financial manager.
