Dr. L. Vamsi Krishna Reddy has been working as an Assistant Professor and Head of Mechanical Engineering Department at Srinivasa Ramanujan Institute of Technology, Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. As part of his education, he has done B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from St. Johns College of Engineering & Technology, M.Tech in Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning from JNTUA of Anantapur and PhD from Gitam University. He started his professional journey as a Diploma Trainee in the Mechanical Design Department at Strategic Electronics Research And Design Center - Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Avionics Division - Hyderabad for a period of 1 year and later on worked as GET at Janaki Steel Corporation Ltd.

He also has 15 years of teaching experience in various reputed institutions. Throughout his career he has attended various workshops and faculty development programs on topics like Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning, Outcome based Education, Computational Engineering with MATLAB, Theoretical and Computational Mechanics, Wind Energy Conversion Systems, Vibrations of Rotating Machinery and Teaching towards Excellence.

Apart from this, he has published a research paper on Experimental Investigation on Performance and Emission Characteristics of Diesel Engine Using Corn oil as an Alternative Fuel and Optimization of CNC Turning Process Parameters for Prediction of Surface Roughness through Taguchi’s Parametric Design Approach in International Journal of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics Research and has also presented a paper on Adaptive Control System for optimization of cutting parameters in Machining in National Conference on Materials & Manufacturing at GITAM Institute of Technology, Visakhapatnam. He is also a proud member of the Institute of Engineers.

Which factors make the programs of your department worth pursuing for students?

Our Mechanical Engineering Department offers an industry oriented and skills based education to students so as to enhance their employability opportunities and make them ready for the outside competitive world. Apart from this, we have adopted flexible teaching pedagogies to address and fulfill the diverse academic requirements of our students and engage them in a multidisciplinary manner so that everyone can be brought on the same page and understand what we are delivering to them. Hence in my opinion, these 2 factors make our courses the best and worth pursuing for young and ambitious youths.


How does the B.Tech Mechanical Engineering course of your college ensure future preparedness of students?

We prepare the students of our department in a more systematic manner so that they can develop much needed technical and non-technical skills and fulfill the demands of the current and future market. First and foremost, we provide them with corporate driven certification in core domains and also organize rigorous training and placement activities followed by in-house learning sessions on a regular basis to educate them about the trends, technologies and demands of the renowned industries.


How do you build a strong connection between your college course and industry demands?

For the purpose of enforcing a strong link between our programs and industry requirements, we have developed a curriculum in accordance with their standards and guidelines. Apart from this, we have collaborated with well-known industries and have also signed MOUs with many of them for skills enhancement of students and as and when needed we provide them internships so that they can utilize their classroom learning in real-time situations.

How do you prepare your students for the outside competitive world and what challenges do you face throughout the process?

As we all know that in today's time, domains like Computer Science are booming and people are focusing more on them and giving less emphasis on disciplines like Mechanical Engineering, so that's a natural challenge for us. But we are giving our 100% efforts and regularly motivate students to enhance their skills. 

Apart from this, we offer them necessary training programs so that they can crack competitive exams like GATE and get a job in the PAC sector, Indian Engineering Services and Manufacturing and Verizon Design Sector. Then there is in-house training for dusselative systems. Last but not the least, we are giving a conscious kind of support to our students to excel in the manufacturing sector and as well as design automotive.


On what kinds of projects students of your department usually work on?

As far as projects are concerned, we encourage our students to identify challenges present in the society and contribute in solving those challenges by utilizing their skills and classroom learning in the best way possible. And at present they are developing some cool projects related to domains like Manufacturing, Thermal Design, Agriculture and E-Bikes. In addition to this, Davos students are preparing a complete material, and our students are testing it on their suggestion.


What career options would be available to students after pursuing courses in your ME Department?

A plethora of work opportunities are available in the outside world for competent professionals and students after successfully finishing an Undergraduate course in Mechanical Engineering from our college can work in Public and Private Sector firms and organizations as a Junior Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Design Engineers, Project Manager, R&D Engineer and Executives etc. Apart from this, they can join organizations like ISRO, BARC and government PSUs after qualifying exams like GATE. Then there are sectors like Renewed Power and Automotive wherein they can find lucrative jobs. Last but not the least, they can become professors in colleges or universities and earn a salary package ranging from INR 3.6 - INR 18 LPA.
