Ms. Yamuna has been working as an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering Department for the last 16 years at Meenakshi Sundararajan Engineering College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Being a Faculty of the CSE Department, what are your responsibilities towards the students?

"My responsibility is to ensure overall growth of students by offering them best education and guidance"

As a faculty of the Computer Science and Engineering Department, I am responsible for delivering the best technical content to my students and helping them understand every single concept in a concise and clear manner. And making them socially aware and responsible citizens is also one of my responsibilities for which I keep assigning them different tasks and assignments on a regular basis. 

How do you bring in a practical and industry driven approach towards subjects?

"Guest sessions and training on latest technologies are arranged in association with industry people"

Being a Professor at MSEC, for the purpose of introducing industry oriented and practical approach towards subjects and also to fill the gap between our curriculum and industrial requirements, I organize a wide variety of guest lectures, hands-on training on latest technologies in collaboration with industry experts and academicians. Apart from this, we emphasize on participative and experiential learning in the classroom. 

Which best practices are offered by your department to students to help them gain necessary skills?

"They are encouraged to upskill themselves via publishing research papers and improving communication skills"

We encourage our students to work rigorously on their communication skills, prepare technical presentations on the topics they study in classrooms and also to present and publish research papers in various conferences and reputed journals. In addition to this, we ask them to refer to conference and survey papers to supplement their subjects knowledge. 

What are your views upon the placements and higher education of students from your department?

"We have our complete support to students in terms of training for placement and classes for competitive exams preparation"

Our department organizes placement specific and personality development training to prepare final year students for the actual interview process. And guest lectures are also conducted by us to prepare them for competitive exams toward higher education.

Which extracurricular activities are organized in college to enhance the skills of students?

"Technical conferences, seminars and workshops are conducted by us regularly"

As we firmly believe that co-curricular activities are as important as academics for students' overall growth and development. Hence technical symposiums are one of the best programs which we organize on a regular basis in our college where students arrange most of the activities and events and we assist them wherever required. 

How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practices of the industry?

"Curriculum comprises of real time industrial projects, finest trainings and professional visits"

We keep motivating our students to look for suitable internships where they can do some hands-on experience, utilize their existing skills and learn new one and mini projects are assigned to them every semester to assess their knowledge and to make sure where they are lacking. Industrial visits are arranged by us as and when required and training programs and workshops are conducted in collaboration with industry experts to make our students aware about the industry development, demands and working. 

How does your college enhance the faculties skills and prepare them as per industry standards?

"They are upskilled through FDPs and courses provided by AICTE"

The faculty members of our college are trained through industrial training, courses offered by AICTE and by Faculty Development Programs which are generally organized by reputed universities.

What approaches do you bring in apart from curriculum to teach the students?

"We keep motivating them to do internships and projects to test their knowledge"

In addition to teaching them the course curriculum, we regularly encourage them to work on their research skills and do some real time projects also, so that whatever they learn during classes, they can apply the same knowledge to solve some real world issues. Apart from this, we motivate them to remain socially conscious and participate in NSS activities. 

What are some of the greatest strengths of your institute?

"Every single person who contributes in our growth makes us strong"

We all, including our management, highly qualified and experienced faculty members, non-teaching staff and every single stakeholder who works with us and work for us, work together as a team to bring the best value for college and make it an amazing place for students who join us to pursue their dreams. Any valuable advice which you would like to give to the students to have a great career ahead?

"Be a good person, and define short term and achievable goals for yourself"

I would suggest to my students to be a good citizen while you are working on their dreams. Also choose realistic goals for yourself and be ethically strong and resilient. Keep learning and keep upgrading your skills because there is no shortcut for success.
