Dr. Chidambaran is an Assistant Professor of the Meenakshi Sundararajan Engineering College, Chennai. He did Bachelor and Master of Engineering from the Thiruvalluvar College of Engineering and Technology, Anna University. He also completed a Full-Time PhD degree in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering Guindy Campus, Anna University. He is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Meenakshi Sundararajan Engineering College, Kodambakkam, Chennai. He has 6 years of Research and 4 years of Teaching Experience. His research work areas are Composite Materials, Severe Plastic Deformation, Bulk Nanostructured Materials, Wear and Corrosion. He published more than 2 articles in highly reputed international journals. He is reviewer of Material Science and Engineering.

“To mentor students and maintain discipline on campus”

My roles include monitoring the student discipline. Other ones include maintaining attendance and decorum of the institution. We maintain discipline on campus. 

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty in Meenakshi Sundararajan Engineering College?

“Encourage pupils to attend seminars, workshops, and develop students' skills”

I establish my healthy relations with the students. We spent time with every student, especially those who struggle with behavioral issues. They must attend technical seminars, symposiums, workshops etc. We share our knowledge and stories to develop their skills.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry oriented?

“Teach industrial trends and technologies based on daily class for pupils”

We explain practical approaches towards subjects and make it industry oriented. I always teach current trends and technologies in daily class. We conduct workshops to give lectures from industry top most positions. I teach co-curricular subjects, such as personality development, career guidance etc for all. 

What are the best practices offered by the department to the students which help them gain necessary skills?

“Counseling, Plant Visit, Corporate Lectures and Summer Training are available for pupils”

Our department offers students services like counseling, placements, training support, and personality grooming. They can visit industries, attend corporate lectures and summer trainings.

How do you strategize the curriculum and get updated to make it befitting for the students?

“Devise plans, methods, identify resources and processes for students”

We strategize the curriculum to benefit students. Our campus focuses on vision, objectives, and student needs. We identify resources, and develop experiences that meet your objectives. Our campus collects and devices materials. We develop plans, methods, and processes to create our students' experience.

What are your views upon the placements and higher education about the students from Meenakshi Sundararajan Engineering College?

“Establish industrial network connections and get real working world settings for pupils”

My primary view of the placements and higher education is to establish industry network connections. We provide a taste of the real working world for pupils. They can improve their skills through different activities.

How does your department prepare students for Higher education?

I prepare higher education and design a professional looking website developed by professionals. Our brochure design should look professional and content should be concise up to the Market based on previous placement records. We consist of Academic Records including student and staff academic records as an important aspect which companies look for.

How do you help student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?

“Introduce competition, collaborations, technological sessions and a positive environment for students”

We help students to cope up with the competition in the outside world by setting a positive environment. Our campus set expectations and consequences for all. We introduce competition, collaboration and plug into technology. 

Do you have any extracurricular activities to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

“Provide extracurricular activities such as Sports, Community Service, Employment, Arts, etc for students”

Some of the extracurricular activities on campus include Sports, Community Service, Employment, Arts, and Hobbies. All these programs assist to enhance the skills of the students. It enriches the skills of students and makes them ready to face society. 

What are the challenges you faced to uplift the quality of education of Meenakshi Sundararajan Engineering College?

“To deal with learning progressions, working and opportunities for pupils”

I face these challenges among trainee and professional teachers to organize student learning opportunities. Another one includes managing student learning progression,dealing with student heterogeneity, developing student commitment to working and learning. I mentioned the above challenge to execute my department for quality education. 

When you came to college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

“To create research development is my primary vision for campus”

My vision is to create the Research Development section in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Other ones include improving educational quality and opportunities for students. We decide to bring more placements on campus from the next year onwards. 

How does the curriculum of college ensure the best practice of the industry?

“Training inputs, project work, R & D outputs, publications and placements are given to pupils”

Our efforts are mutually rewarding to both the Institutions and interacting industries. We provide significant improvements in curriculum, training inputs, project work, R & D outputs, publications and placements to both students and faculty. There is an increase in intellectual outputs that will contribute to the overall growth and development of the college.

How does the college enhance the skills of the faculty and prepares them according to the industry standards?

“Provide FDPs, development activities and teaching innovative projects for students”

Our faculty developments includes centers for teaching and learning development. Faculties get professional development activities in-service training for faculty, teaching excellence awards and competitions for remarkable improvements. Teaching innovation funds, Organization and management of teaching and learning are available from the campus. These are above to develop the faculty skill. 

What are the interventions and approaches you bring in apart from curriculum to train the students? 

“Monitor students' progress, access feedback and direct instruction to train students”

One of the approaches contains collecting plenty of feedback from students. We monitor student’s progress continually. I also clarify objectives and give direct instruction.
