NEET PG seat allotment 2024: Seat allotment is basically a step where the conducting authorities allot the best possible seat to you in the participating colleges. Prior to this stage, you are supposed to clear NEET PG cutoff, register for the counselling process and choose the colleges of your preferences.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), the conducting body for counselling, will make the decision based on your marks obtained in the written test, your category, the seats available in the colleges you have chosen, etc. As per the data, there are 70,674 seats available for PG medical courses in 2024.

The seat allotment will likely begin in the month of July after declaration of results. As per last year data, AIR 15 from open category allotted seats in Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi. Hence, we can say, you need a score above 600 to get into a top medical college for post graduation.

How Does NEET PG Seat Allotment Works?

After the choice filling and locking, the MCC announces the result of seat allotment on the official website in a PDF format. You can download and check the allotted college and if satisfied, you can proceed to report to the college. However, in case you want a better college for the postgraduate course, you can free exit the round 1 and register for the round 2 seat allotment.

For round 2, you have to go through all the same procedures again such as registration, choice filling and locking. Second round seat allotment can not be reversed but you can exit if you are not satisfied. Lastly, two more rounds namely mop up and stray vacancy round will be done. The purpose of these rounds are to fill the remaining seats in the participating colleges.

Each category student requires to obtain the threshold percentile in NEET PG 2024. The percentile requirement to be eligible are:

NEET PG Counselling 2024 is a process where the students who have passed and eligible are allotted seats and colleges. The distribution of seats depends on various criteria. There are a total of 4 rounds in counselling namely round 1, round 2, mop up round and stray vacancy round. In each round, you have to:

  • Registration
  • Submit Choice filling and choice locking form
  • Payment of fee
  • Seat allotment will be done
  • You can report to the respective college

According to the information brochure that is released on the official website, 50% AIQ seats in all states and ESIC colleges will be allotted by MCC. Similarly, 100% seats in central universities and deemed universities will be allotted based on AIQ merit list. The merit list will be declared by NBE on the official portal.

The cutoff are the minimum required marks to participate in counselling and seat allotment. As discussed above, general, OBC/EWS, SC, ST, OBC (including PwD), UR PwD needs 50, 40 and 45 percentile respectively to register for the seat allotment process. Ques. How many seats have been increased in NEET PG 2024?

Ans. In the past ten years, a significant increase has been seen in the number of seats of NEET PG. The seats have been increased from 39,489 to 70,674. New Government Medical Colleges have been established that marks the increase in number of seats for NEET PG 2024.

Ques. Who is eligible for the stray round in NEET PG 2024?

Ans. Candidates who have been devoid of seats in the first two rounds of NEET PG counselling are eligible for the stray round. This round is conducted to fill the remaining seats in the participating colleges. However, if you have not joined the seat through MCC/AFMS round 3, then you can’t participate in the stray round.
