Many GRE test locations were closed down due to the pandemic. Now GRE test centers are again resuming their work but following certain protocols. ETS has suggested candidates take GRE at-home exam where the test center exam has not resumed. All GRE exam centers are following strict guidelines as has been stated below:

  • Candidates need to carry and wear their own face masks. They will not be allowed if they are not wearing masks. All GRE test centers permit candidates to wear weak masks even if it is not mandatory. Candidates can wear cloth or medical masks. Masks with vents or valves are not allowed in any GRE test center.
  • Candidates will be required to remove their masks for a few seconds to get their photos taken. They will also need to remove the mask once they return from breaks.
  • Test-takers may bring rubber gloves to the GRE test centers, though they are not required.
  • All GRE test locations conduct regular cleaning of high-touch surfaces. They also provide disposal wipes for candidates to clean their testing areas.

GRE Dates and Centers Rescheduling  

GRE exam dates and test centers can be canceled or rescheduled no later than four days before the test date or the GRE exam fee would be forfeited. In case of rescheduling, candidates can make the following changes to their GRE dates and test centers without contacting ETS:

  • Reschedule their GRE center to another GRE test center
  • Change GRE test locations due to health issues, even if the GRE center is open
  • Change GRE schedule exam from a test center to an at-home exam

However, candidates are required to pay a fee of $50 for rescheduling their test or changing their GRE ETS dates and test locations. In addition to that, candidates are required to pay an additional amount of $50 to change their GMAT subject test.

Yes, you can take the GRE almost anywhere around the world and at any time. The computer-delivered GRE (the most common version) is administered year-round at Prometric test centers, where all GRE test sessions are available on a first-come, first-served basis. In areas where the computer-delivered GRE is unavailable, you may be able to take the paper-delivered GRE.
