Ques. Which is best to pursue an MTech in ECE: IIT Bombay or IISC Bangalore?

● Top Answer By Advait Joshi on 14 Jul 23

Ans. I have a friend who is pursuing M.tech in Electronic systems engineering at IISc and a cousin who is pursuing M.tech at IITB too. So, I seem to be in the best position to compare IIT Bombay and IISc Bangalore.  Academic environment : IISc has a rich research culture and you will find both faculty and students actively involved in dynamic research projects. A total of 42 departments offer rigorous courses that challenge the researcher within you. IISc also provides excellent opportunities to pursue any interdisciplinary field like microbiology, neuroscience, nanoscience, astronomy, genetics, etc. IIT Bombay on the other hand has a laid-back culture and curriculum that is more placement-oriented. Only passionate students are motivated enough to involve in research activities. Placement : IIT Bombay has diverse companies visiting for placements while IISc usually has only core companies. Moreover, the students applying for placements are at IIT Bombay than IISc because IISc students prefer higher studies or research. So we can say that IIT Bombay has a more active placement cell than IISc. Extra-Curriculars : IIT Bombay is known for its vibrant campus life and huge events that are organized to give the students a break from academics. IISc is a bit lacking in this aspect as its sole focus is on in-depth research. However, it does have all basic modes of refreshments like Hockey, Football, Archery, Swimming, and cultural societies for Drama, Music, Photography, and Literary Higher Studies: Although both IIT Bombay and IISc Bangalore have excellent prospects and opportunities for higher studies, it no brainer that IISc Bangalore will encourage you more for higher studies, and a Ph.D. from IISc is an excellent choice. Ultimately, the final decision depends on what your prospects are and what you expect from your college life. If your main goal is to pursue full-scale research then IISc is the best place for you but if you also want to experience a great campus life and get placed then IIT Bombay will serve you better.Read more

Ques. How was your interview experience at IIIT Hyderabad for MS ECE?

● Top Answer By Aishwarya Shastri on 02 Aug 23

Ans. I had applied for the MS ECE at IIIT Hyderabad as I was interested in Robotics research. Around 22 candidates, including me, were scheduled for an interview that day and a few were absent. I was interviewed at 4:30 pm. A total of 4 professors interviewed us. The professors first asked me if I sat for GATE and my performance in it. Then I was asked if I had applied for other colleges. When I told them that I rejected NIT Goa because of not so good placements over there, they asked me if I was interested in placements. To this I replied that I was not that interested in placements and my plan was to go into research. Then they asked me about the field in which I wanted to do my research. I replied that I was interested in Robotics. I supported my answer by saying that I have done my final year project in robotics and worked in the automation department of Godrej. I was then asked what I would want to improve at my company. After this basic question-answer series, another professor of IIIT Hyderabad, who was into Robotics research, joined the panel. He went through my final year project report. Meanwhile, the panel asked me about my strong subjects and the topics that I was well-versed in.  I was asked to write equations and draw graphs on a blackboard and was questioned on the topics that I had selected. I chose to be questioned on Analog and Digital Communications, except the NOISE part.   The interview went for 25 minutes. The Robotics professor did not ask any questions and simply reviewed my project report. Overall, the interview experience was great and I cleared it and secured admission into IIIT Hyderabad.Read more

Ques. How is NIT Goa for Mtech in vlsi?

● Top Answer By Shaoni Kilaram on 24 Aug 21

Ans. Basically, a comparison between the colleges can be made according to the choices and interests of the students. The various factors are taken into consideration when we are choosing M.Tech in VLSI.  NIT Goa owns a very attractive and appealing infrastructure.  At the same time, the college usually focuses on the holistic development of students rather than just focusing on academics.  Also, NIT Goa has well-qualified faculty members imparting quality education to all the students.  Also check the fees, placement statistics, and the number of students who got placed in various companies.  The course fee for M.Tech students is affordable, unlike many other popular colleges. Categories M.Tech VLSI at NIT Goa Course Fee 2.01 lakhs Number of companies visited 45+ Number of students placed 80-90% Highest package offered 14.3 LPA Average Package Offered 4.2 LPA NIT Goa has affordable fees and decent placement offers can be a preferred option for many. So before making the choice weigh all the pros and cons before getting admission in the college.Read more

Ques. Is electronics and design technology for NIT Calicut worthy? How are the core placements for this branch?

● Top Answer By Megha Deb on 23 Mar 21

Ans. To decide a course’s worth depends not only on the subjects dealt with but also on the aptitude/expectations of the student.  It would be good to keep in mind that power electronics is quite a vast field. Electronics Design and Technology is like any other specialization offered by NITC. If you go in-depth you get to know that this course is a blend of VLSI and embedded/system design. If you are interested in the VLSI domain, then EDT is definitely your way. Most of the subjects are shared with Microelectronics & VLSI branches. Categories NIT Calicut Course Fee 5.42 lakh Placement Percentage 75-78% Highest CTC 11.37 LPA Average CTC 4.08 LPA Recruiting Companies TI, Broadcom, Nvidia, Synopsys, etc. Okay, let us take a look at the placement scenario: Placements are a bit off for M.Tech students relative to B.Tech students at NITC. Several core VLSI companies (TI, Broadcom, Nvidia, Synopsys, etc) end up hiring mostly B.Tech batch. It also depends on your academics too.  Intel usually hires interns during the second year.  These internship opportunities are available only to VLSI and EDT students mainly. Though, the chance for placement in core companies directly is relatively less. But, if you manage to maintain your CGPA on or above 8 you have a chance to get into a good internship opportunity. There will be internship opportunities available in companies like Broadcom, Intel, and Cypress. Most of these guys selected will be converted to full-time after one year of internship. You can do an internship and Second-year M.Tech main project at the same time. If you are really good you can also try for an internship from other branches like Telecom and Signal Processing.Read more

Ques. How is the M.Tech course for Embedded Control and Software in IIT Kharagpur?

● Top Answer By Aman Sharma on 23 Mar 23

Ans. My sister was a part of this course at IIT KGP and she found it extremely interesting and aligned with her interests. The course is industry oriented covering a number of topics like  Product Design Modeling of systems Software implementation and Verification Product Validation  Basically, all aspects of product design are covered under this course. In the First Semester, it covers topics related to Embedded systems, Control Engineering and Software Engineering and in the second semester, you are free to choose electives of your choice.  As far as placements are concerned, top big names like Robert Bosch, KPIT, Cognizant and Cypress Semiconductor visit the campus for placements. However, interdisciplinary courses face a lot of issues during placements since this course is not known to many companies. This is because it falls under a different center named ATDC(Advanced Technology Development Center)  To prepare for the interview one needs to go through concepts of signals and systems, processors and controllers, C language, and Assembly language. Read more

Ques. How is the VLSI placement in NIT Calicut?

● Top Answer By Purvi Singhal on 22 Apr 21

Ans. The VLSI placement in NIT Calicut is average, with a slight low count in job offers, and a minimum of 50% internship offers. The table below gives a brief overview of M.Tech VLSI from NIT Calicut. Total Fees Rs. 90,460 Median Salary Offered Rs. 9 LPA Total Number of seats 25 GATE cut-off 67 Key highlights: Previously, the department of VLSI allowed only 50% of students to go for internships. This rule was set up from the batch of 2018. Previously, 50% of the whole department was allowed for internships. Though the placement count is quite less, a good internship in companies like NVIDIA and Intel would result in a good pre-placement full-time offer. For the 2021 batch, the institute allowed all students for internships, because of problems with guiding students virtually in COVID circumstances. Even if this rule is evoked in the future, the minimum 50% internship rule will be available. Therefore, the placement in VLSI at NIT Calicut is average, but with some good internship and full-time conversion offers.Read more

Ques. How is MTech in VLSI in ABV-IIITM, Gwalior regarding its placement and faculty? How much stipend do they provide to an MTech student?

● Top Answer By Tanya Jain on 15 Sept 20

Ans. The MTech in VLSI program at ABV-IIITM, Gwalior is a two-year program with specializations in Advanced Networks, Digital Communication, and Information Security. The annual median salary across students is noted to be 5.8 LPA in 2019. The faculty at ABV-IIITM, Gwalior for the MTech VLSI program are professionals in the field who come from a background of academic expertise and are well-versed with VLSI methods and processes. They are known to educate and train students to be acute professionals and use their knowledge to create practical solutions in the corporate world. Students that participate in the college’s placement drive will have the opportunity to interact with VLSI specialized companies like AMD and Altera. A Although it is important to note that the majority of companies that appear during the recruitment season are usually from the software sector and therefore there is a higher chance of not getting an opportunity to work at a core VLSI based firm. Some recruiting companies at IIITM, Gwalior for VLSI are Snapdeal, Samsung, TCS, Amazon, Adobe, Myntra, Practo, Reliance, Cisco, Alcatel, and Google. The stipend paid varies according to the company but as per the MHRD norms it amounts to Rs 8000. Some students have also received a stipend of Rs 12,400 as per AICTE norms. So it would be ideal to conclude that the stipend ranges from anywhere between Rs 8000 to Rs 12,400. Students are required to perform intensive research about the type of companies that they are looking to work with, considering IIITM, Gwalior offers limited placements to students from the VLSI sector. The total fees for the course amount to 4.23 lacs whereas students are required to clear the GATE exams in order to be eligible for admissions.Read more
