MCom Admissions 2025 are both entrance exams and merit-based depending upon the university. Candidates can choose to go to universities of their choice and choose which exam to take or wait for the merit list to be released.

MCom Admission 2025: Eligibility

The basic eligibility requirements for MCom are listed below, however, please note that there might be slight differences in the requirements based on the university chosen.

  • Educational Requirements: The candidate is required to have completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (BCom) or BCom (Hons.) or an equivalent degree such as BMS/BBS/BBA/BBA-FIA/BFIA/BA (Hons.) in BBE from a recognized institution or university.

Students must have a minimum aggregate score of 50-60% depending on the university.

  • Some universities may have special requirements based on the specialization pursued by the candidate.
  • Some universities may require proficiency in English.
  • There is no upper age limit for MCom Admissions.
  • There is generally a 5% reduction in required marks for reserved categories such as SC/ST/OBC.

MCom Admission 2025: Admission Process

The admissions process of MCom typically consists of a few key steps

  • Before starting the application process, candidates should ensure they meet the eligibility requirements of the chosen university
  • Once the university(s) are decided candidates then need to choose the appropriate exam based on the university’s requirements.
  • Or, if the university welcomes merit applicants then proceed accordingly.
  • In case of entrance exam-based admission, once the candidate has confirmed the required entrance exam they shall then proceed to register themselves on the official website of the entrance exam conducting body.
  • Next, the candidates need to appear for the exams and then wait for the results.
  • For merit-based admissions the university will publish merit lists, students who have successfully made the cutoff can apply and proceed with counselling.
  • For entrance exam-based, once the results of the exam are announced, candidates who successfully cleared the exam the students will be called in for counselling.
  • Candidates who are shortlisted for the counselling round will be asked to bring their documents for verification and seats will be allotted based on the counselling process.
  • Once a candidate has been allotted a seat they need to pay the required admission fee before the deadline to confirm their seat.

MCom Admission 2025: Application Form

Candidates need to go to the official website of the university or college they wish to apply for and look for the application form.

Candidates will then need to fill out the application form with all the necessary details and attach all the required documents.

Following this candidates need to pay the application fee to successfully submit the application.

Once everything is done candidates should take a printout of the completed application and the successful fee payment.

MCom Admission 2025: Merit-Based Admission

MCom Admissions in some colleges happen using the previous degree marks scored by the students. Although generally, the admissions take place through entrance exams Merit-based MCom admissions are quite common.

In such merit-based admissions, colleges/universities judge candidates based on their scores in their bachelor's degree.

For example, the University of Mumbai offers Merit-based MCom admissions.

DU SOL MCom Admission

MCom in DU SOL takes place via Open Distance Learning Mode. The eligibility criteria for the programmes:

  • Minimum Marks: 50% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade for candidates belonging to UR/OBC/EWS Category, and 45% marks in aggregate for candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwBD category.
  • Academic Course Requirement: BCom (Hons.), BCom (Pass/Program) bachelor's degree in commerce, BMS, BBS, BBA, BBA-FIA, BFIA, BBE, BA (Hons.) BBE from any recognized university (or DU)

MCom Admissions are a direct mode of admission. Two separate merit lists will be prepared for candidates. One list is for candidates with a Bachelor/graduation from DU and the other is for students with a bachelor/graduation from a recognized university including DU.

The merit list for the unreserved category will consist of all the candidates (reserved or not reserved) in order of merit. This list will strictly be based on merit.

IGNOU MCom Admission

MCOM in IGNOU also takes place via Open Distance Learning Mode. The eligibility criteria for MCom Admission is divided into two categories in IGNOU,

  1. 2-Year MCom: Candidates need to have a bachelor's degree or a higher degree from any recognized university.
  2. Lateral Entry to 2nd Year MCom: Completed PGDIBO

The Fees for the complete 2-year MCom Programme is INR16,200 divided into INR 8,100 to be paid every year. In addition, students need to pay a registration fee of INR 200 in the first year.

Ans. Sitting for CAT again is honestly not a very easy decision. So I will suggest you go for IIM Rohtak itself. This decision will be beneficial under the following circumstances  If your past academic performance is not really good. This is because the older IIMs lay emphasis on past academics too much which in reality cannot be changed. So why risk a year when the chances are nearly zero? If you already have 2 or more years of experience, it’s better you don’t forgo the opportunity. If you are interested in domains like Finance or Marketing, it’s better to join now. This is because working too much in the IT field limits your chances of getting into Finance and Marketing. So based on these points you can come up with a decision that’s best for you. Just remember that despite being new, IIM Rohtak belongs to the IIM family which in itself is a brand.Read more

Ans. After earning your Mcom from Ignou, you can pursue a career as a lecturer. However, you must also pass the NET exam to be eligible for a lectureship. Whether you get your M.com from a distance learning institute like IGNOU or a traditional college makes no difference. You are still eligible to take NET. State-level exams are an alternative to the NET. Every state has its own set of exams. Passing a state exam qualifies you for lectureships only in that state. To be eligible to become a lecturer anywhere in the country, you must give the NET. Most people would instead pass state-level exams and work as a lecturer in their state. IGNOU can commence any course, even technical courses without or with approval of AICTE since it has the right to do so as per its constitution. IGNOU has its own SOET (school of engineering and technology) duly approved by HRD and UGC. Their degrees and diplomas are equivalent to any other technical system in India. AICTE never recognizes any degree/diploma in distance courses and hence it should be clearly understood for any institution. Nonetheless, IGNOU courses are themselves valid. Ans. The Department of Commerce (DU) intakes students for its MCom. course on the basis of CUET(PG) from academic year 2023-24 onwards. To get an admission, you’ll have to fulfill the eligibility criteria, and give the CUET (PG) for MCom. You can visit the official website of CUET for the detailed exam syllabus.  On the other hand, the Delhi School of Economics does not offer an MCom. degree. Instead, you can opt for the MA (Economics) program. The admissions for the same are done through merit (only for DU students) and CUET PG. You can obtain them from the DSE Photocopy Shop. Classify the topics that appear frequently in the entrance examination. Search for those topics on the internet.  Purchase Pratyogita Darpan as well.  You can begin a meditation routine to avoid being distracted by unnecessary thoughts on the day of the exam, as the paper requires concentration and a clear mind.
