B.Tech in Polymer Science & Technology is a 4- year long undergraduate course essentially involving designs, analyses, and/ or modification of polymer materials.

Note: Students who wish to pursue their education in Management field or get a career boost, can check: MBA course.

Polymer Engineering covers aspects of the petrochemical industry, polymerization, structure and characterization of polymers, properties of polymers, compounding and processing of polymers, among other related concepts. Job prospects for polymer engineers abound in industries such as aerospace and automobile. Click: BTech Admission 2024

In India, Polymer Engineers earn somewhere between INR 1,20,000 and 180,000 per annum on an average. Engineers employed in the private sector are generally paid more than the public sector. With increase in experience and skill sets, Polymer Engineers earn up to INR 9,60,000 per annum. Given the rapid expansion in plastic and fiber industries, career scope for Polymer Engineers is vast in the current context. Research labs like National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, have an entire department in place for the study of polymers. Check: All About B.Tech

Course Curriculum Overview:

The specific aspects of the curriculum is very good for me. By the course I can also apply my knowledge in projects and also another assignments. So that my working skills are growing up. I think all faculty are good but not all of the teachers come to help. If they can improve this portion I think the faculty is the best.

Fees and Financial Aid:

The fees structure is around 3-4 k in each semester. There are 8 semester in 4 year course. All the extra fees and tution fees also included in the fees structure. The scholarship provided by bhikasbhaban named as Swami Vivekananda scholarship is the amount of 60000 year.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The upcoming plastic and polymer market and the usage of polymer is increasing day by day with the time. So that's why I choose this course . Teachers help us to get used to in the industry. The areas which can be improved is the laboratory work . The each semester has 6 papers and every paper is of 70 marks and 3 hours is given.

Fees and Financial Aid:

The tution fees is 26500 rupees approx in 4 years. You have to pay 3722 rupees per semester. So this is quite affordable for the students from any family. There is many scholarships like oasis scholarship for reserved cast students and SVMCM for every eligible candidate. In SVMCM scheme, a student will get 60000 rupees every year

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have much interest in chemistry so l choose admission in Polymer Science and Technology dept. In our department, the strength of students is 30 and the ratio B.Sc B.Tech: HS B.Tech is 15:15 At Calcutta University, Semester Exams are(both mid sem and end sem) so difficult. The passing mark of the semester is 50% in B.Tech and questions must be on a conceptual basis, not a theoretical basis. But previous question papers must be helpful for the semester exam.

Placement Experience:

In our department, in the 7th semester, students have to get opportunities for placements but after completing the full course they got more opportunities. Some companies like Haldia Petrochemical Limited, Reliance and Asian paints are comparing our college. The highest package is 11 to 12LPA. In our department, 90% of students have got placement. My plan is also to get placement in a reputed company.

Campus Life:

Social life - Quite good, people are smart, conversations are richQuite a few events are organized regularly.Clubs - There is no formal Tech Club/Entrepreneurship Cell, lack of initiative of both students as well as administrative officials and Faculty.Infrastructure - Labs are quite good, with specialized instruments, classrooms are well lit, airy; buildings are heritage buildings.Engineering based events like hackathons, case studies, etc are not frequent.Canteens are great for networking with fellow campus-mates over cheap yet delicious food.

Placement Experience:

The Central Placement needs to be developed. Placement scenario of several Engg. departments is quite poor. But, placements in my department (Polymer Science and Technology) are done through the alumni network, and is very good. Students of my dept undergo a compulsory Industrial Internship in the 6th semester, which often gets converted to a Pre Placement Offer. Most of the students are placed, or go for higher studies, after completion of the course. My plans - Gain work experience and then go for an MBA.

Admission:

Firstly, I had to give my West Bengal Joint entrance examination for engineering. I ranked 20800. I never thought I'll get to pursue engineering with this rank. But I was lucky enough to get a spot counselling of this famous university and got admitted in the polymer science and Technology department. In spot counselling, preference is according to rank. The preferred rank can choose his/her department. After that they have to print the form with the asked details. Marksheets of 10 and 12 are required during admission. I chose this course over others because this course is really rare. I would really get more opportunities because of less competition. Also, because I love chemistry.

Campus Life:

We have different extra curricular activities for each department. The political status is very nominal. They have no particular exercise over our university. There is complete tolerance on gender and religion. Our university is very tolerant towards all sexual orientation and it is pretty normal for us. We have different workshops arranged for us for a better learning and having a good hold of different issues.

College Events:

Thomso the cultural festival of IIT Roorkee is North India's largest festival with about 10,000 footfalls every year. With many cultural activities like dance and muaic, and with days ending with a Pronite. Cognizance, India's one of the largest Tech fests organized in the month of February. The tech activities range from Robot fights to aeroplane competitions and many Strategy based Entrepreneurship camps.

Fees and Financial Aid:

A scholarship is offered to the students who have a rank of under 300, where the students are given 75000 stipend per year, although they have to maintain a gpa of above 8. Other scholarships are for families whose net income is less than 1 lacks per year, are given 100% discount on the tuition fees.
