Fees and Financial Aid:

There is security deposit you have to pay when you take admission in the college. Which is a12k or 15k. Which you ll be getting back after your convocation. And the fees is sem wise. Its is the same for a batch irrspective if the departments. And the fee increases by 10% (not really sure) every year. The fee is different for every sem. Approximately 1.5 lakh per sem or 3 lakh per year (approximately). This fee included all facilities provided by the college. That is developemnt fee, lab fee, library and everything. There is various scholarship that you can apply. That provides almost 100% of the fee if eligible. There is scholarships availble for all categories. But there is various conditions for it. Like attendence. Marks. Your family background. Their is national scholarships, state wise ones. You can basically apply for anything. But only get one scholarship. Some of it is sarthak, egrantz etc., The college gives medical allowance for students if they are injured within the campus.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course. The first year is mixed every department students are shuffled together. And taught the basics of everything in the first year. Second year is when we start having department classes.basically it was basics of our departemnet. In my case we were thought knitting. Embroidery. Pattern makings. Print design everything. And also basics of stitching. And it just gets deep and deeper in 3rd and 4tth uear. after 3 rd year we have to do a 2 months summer internship as a design intern in any company. And this provides us all insights about industry. And 4rth year. 2nd sem that is the last sem of the course. 8th sem. We are supposed to so a graduation project of 4 months. We can either do the GP at any company. Or do our own design collection(DC) which should be funded by ourselves or we can apply for scholarship. The collge clases are from 9 to 4 mon to sat

So , choosing good loyal friends is very important in the college especially when your living in hostel or rented houses with roommates or alone , you'll always need a shoulder to lay on and support you and plays a major role in overall experience in the college no matter what department they're in but be friends with everybody too don't hold grudges and all . There are club activities too that includes cultural, sports , photography, social media, social ethics, environment . You can choose any club you want and it's always the students handling the clubs so it's free to give ideas to your club president or secretary. And we have whatsapp college group for the same and Instagram handle of sdac Bangalore to check it out .

Faculty:

Every sem we have 6-7 subjects and also the class strength is 42 something. And the faculty teach the subjects that they've been working on or have done it in the industry which leads to more understanding of reality of the fashion industry. Within a sem we have 2 assignments (30 marks each) and 1 jury (40 marks) total 100 and to pass one has to score more than 50% and attendance also is a major role since the percentage is been considered to check a student can attend the particular subject since the attendance is session wise for each subject . One who has less than 75% in a subject cannot attend jury and might have to give rejury or get a carry forward(repeat subject ) if less than 65% .

It is a national college right so it's a blend if culture over here. We celebrate holi diwali ganesh chaturthi onam especially and every other festival i guess. In that way our college is very culturally rich. We have a resource centre here where u can get all sorts of fashion related books like fashion forecasting books also which only available in our college. We have mac labs sewing labs and many more. We have two annual fest called spectrum and converge. In spectrum its intra college in which department fight with each other in sports fashion show and many more. And in converge it's inter college. We have wave community which is basically of selected people those who are like really really good for dance drama and all. Other than that we have ess club cultural club literary club etc.

Fees and Financial Aid:

Fee is relatively high if u compare to other national government colleges. It's around one lakh and thirty five or forty five pwr semester. Yes they do provide scholarship facility but that can only be availed by the students who's parents annual income is less than four lakhs. This course is definitely not affordable for people who are not rich enough.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The Courses they offer are : fashion design, fashion communication, leather design, accessory design, knitwear design, and textile design. The faculty of nift are very supportive and very helpful. Once you enter the campus you will love the teaching process as it is very more on the exploration. It is not very difficult to pass the semester if you submit all your assignments on time and understand and present the concept taught nicely. I have opted for knitwear design because I'm very much interested in knitted fabrics and I wanted to explore that field.

Campus Life:

Campus life is the best life you will experience at nift. There are clubs like cultural, social, sports, film and photography and teams are rouge, Dhara, salt where you can get yourself in and became an important part in conducting events. There is a fest-like spectrum that is held in the college and everyone participates freely. Clubs are there to build up all the hidden qualities you have. There is no restriction on what you wanna explore in the club.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose the knitwear designer department because that was the department available in Bangalore during my counselling. The faculty helps us in any way they can, we are also given mentors. Every 5 -8 students are assigned to one faculty as the mentee. Each facility has its own teaching style and different faculty are qualified to teach more than one subject of their expertise. There are two assignments and one end term project. The first two assignments are graded on the full marks of 30 and 30 each. The end term jury is 40 marks.

Campus Life:

There are three main clubs in the college and each one of them has some faculty member as their head. Various art competitions are held and any student can participate in most of them. There is a range of various different books and journals in the library. We are also given links and passwords to some online libraries by the faculty.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I was interested in fashion design, but I wasn't getting it in the top 5 centres so I shifted to knitwear Design, both being similar courses. In college, we have one mentor for every 4-5 students. Not all faculties are great but some of them are really nice. And if you have any doubt or confusion, all of them are always ready to help you out. For the first two parts, we have to do the only submission of the given assignments. For the end term, we have a jury where teachers review and roast our work so get real life experience for when we work in the industry. There are too many submissions and mostly you'll get less time to sleep when the jury nears, but at the end of the day, it's worth it.

Campus Life:

The main cultural event at NIFT is "Spectrum" where apart from NIFT students, other students also come and participate. There are many different programmes accommodated in this 3 days fest and it's super fun. Apart from that, there are celebrations every now and then on different occasions. For books, we have a Resource Center where we can sit and work, read books, work on the available computers etc. We also have a Mac lab in a different building. There are different social clubs such as cultural club, literary club, sports club etc where we get to do extra activities.

Campus Life:

The college campus is not extremely huge but is one filled with quirky wall murals and graffiti to spark your creative fire. There is a gym inside the campus. There are two blocks of girls hostel inside the campus as well. The library has access to most resources including subscriptions of fashion forecasting editions like promostyl and wgsn that can cost lakhs. There are many labs pertaining to each department such as knitting lab, welding workshop, textile lab and even stitching labs. However the gem is the Mac lab that has Mac systems where you can learn 3D simulation of CAD designs. The WiFi accessible from any corner inside the campus and is really fast.

College Events:

The college hosts a student festival every year in the month of February called the spectrum and is solely for the students of that very campus. However students from other college are also allowed to participate in the events. It’s a three day programme including dance, music, fashion show, beat boxing, slam poetry and many more such competitions. A similar event is also organised in one campus rotation wise each year amongst the all 14 campuses of NIFT called Converge. Where all NIFT campuses compete against each other as teams.

Admission:

I gave an entrance examination for NIFT on Feb 20, 2011, just a weak before my Physics board exam. I had to go to Lucknow for the exam as I am primarily from Kanpur and my examination center was is Lucknow. It consisted of two rounds, one written and 2nd sketching. I was called for the 2nd round of exams which was a situation test in Delhi in April, 2011. After few months, results were out and I got 226 rank in General category. I again went to Delhi for counselling. I was getting Leather Design in Delhi and because of hailing from the city of biggest leather industry in India-Kanpur.this was a golden chance for me. But there was no hostel in Delhi and I was just 17 at that time so I decided to take Bangalore center instead as my real bother was working there as a software developer. So, i l landed up taking Knitwear Design and Technology from NIFT Bangalore

Campus Life:

Campus Life is way cooler than any college in India. There are 3 DJ nights in college in an year. There are time to time activities, fashion shows, competitions, celebrations going on in the college apart from your regular course structure which keeps you very busy for four years of your college life. There are definitely more girls than boys in NIFT. But there is no discrimination with regards to gender, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, politics and economic status. In fact I believe NIFT is the only college who open heartedly accepted bisexuals, homosexuals back in 2010-11 when even India did not accepted this as a country. In Bangalore, its a very small campus and anybody knows everybody. So its a real good environment there.

In counselling I got knitwear design in Mumbai and I gladly took it. Now coming to the entrance procedure, there are 3 stages one needs to clear. First, general ability test where MCQ questions are asked from basic class 10 level of maths, English, general knowledge and questions related to brands and stuff. Second, there are questions where one needs to show their artistic side. One needs to sketch and draw as per the questions given. This test happens on the same day as the general ability test. After these two tests, some applicants are shortlisted for the next round of test. Third, the shortlisted applicants are then asked to sit for the situation test which takes place after about a month. In situation test, applicants are given materials such as papers, straws, paints etc and are asked to make a 3D model of something which is given on the question paper. After all these tests general rank is assigned to the applicants as per the marks obtained from the above 3 tests. On the basis of the rank, one is assigned the center and the course.

Placement Experience:

During the summer break in 3rd year, all the students are supposed to do an internship. It is mandatory. And the last semester is kept for the graduation project where one needs to work in a company. I worked for Raymond apparels during my graduation project. Most of the students are offered jobs during their internship and Graduation Project. Nift holds Placements in mainly 3 centers, Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Students from all over the country come to these 3 centers and sit for placements. Not many companies visit campus Placements but most of the students easily get jobs outside Placements. Those who do not, they can surely something for themselves because the curriculum prepares them to do so.
