Bethune college from a student's perspective

The professors have a good teaching experience and they complete the syllabus in time. The college has two big libraries that contain all the books needed for every subject. The professors ensure that all students understand the matter and score well
The campus is huge with a great canteen service. The canteen food is affordable and tasty as well. They offer both veg and non veg options. Sports day events, inter and intra college competitions are also organised. Annual function is also organised.

Dislikes

The administrative work takes a long time. Sometimes the professors cancel the classes without any prior information. Some professors just read out of a ppt or a book. They are not super helpful or flexible when it comes to a student's need.
The campus is not super hygienic. There's dust on the desks and it felt like the bathrooms never got cleaned. The lifts don't work 70% of the time and you need to climb 200 stairs for every other class as they take place in different buildings/floor.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

The tuition fee is very less as this is a government college. We were charged a one time admission fee of 1300Rs and a fee of around 1200Rs per year as tuition, library and laboratory expenses. The institute also provided us with a compulsory Diploma in Computer Applications (duration was 1.5 years) which cost us 1500Rs as well. There were several scholarship schemes provided to the girls by the government of West Bengal, like Kanyashree scholarship. The recipients got an aid of 25000Rs under this scheme. We got placement opportunity in TCS with a package of 4LPA but most of us chose to got for higher studies.

The infrastructure is really well built and spacious
Faculty is helpful and respectful to students

Dislikes

The canteen is quite small to hold the crowd during lunch
Some washrooms are unuseable due to the unhygienic conditions

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

Being a govt institution tuition fee will never go up anyway until the government wants it whatsoever If you opt for pol sci hons it will be ?1811 for 1st year rest course go around this range up or down but not sky high They provide government scholarships and benefits like Kanyashree student credit cards ayikyashree oasis The amount comes around ?25000 for one time grant

Likes

The campus is so beautiful and a calm place to focus on studies. The whole campus is full of trees and also well maintained.
There are several buildings where each building contains 3-4 departments, a big auditorium, different libraries for science and arts subjects.

Dislikes

Libraries need an upgradation with new launched books which might help the students with their semester studies otherwise there are a lot of good old and high-level books

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

Fees is super affordable as compared to the other colleges my college has the lowest fees structure. Tuition fees only 1500-2000 per semester approximately. And there are several scholarships available like SVMCM, Inspire scholarships and few caste related scholarships too. Eligible candidates get these easily. In my department there's no placement cell.

Likes

The psychology department is the leading department of the college. Teachers are polite and excellent in their field. We have 3 labs in the department and enough inttuments.
We have a strict anti-ragging cell. Other than ragging we have right to complain against any type of harassment by faculty members. We have departmental libraries, archives, Science & arts library also.

Dislikes

The bathrooms are not clean and lack maintenance and water.
The lift in the psychology department is not working for 6-7 months but no one repaired it. It's problematic for pwd students, teachers and who have emergencies.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

As it is a government college tuition fees are so affordable. We get quality education in affordable price. It took me about 2000 rupees to take admission, exam fees are also very low. We got scholarships like Kanyashree, SVMCM, OASIS, Aikyashree and many more.

The faculty, the teachers, the campus, and some gem of books in the Library MAINLY
The affordability a 100 times! Imagine a good studious atmosphere with teachers interested in teaching and always there for you just 1800/- a year!!!

Dislikes

The cultural side could have been a little more flourished it is not like it DOES NOT HAVE but it could have been better
The campus life is a little dry there so being an outgoing person I feel a little dull but a good friend group is all it takes though:)(it might be heaven for you if you're an introvert)

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

I do not have much idea on the placements as my course isnt placement centric but I do know Bethune gets a placement offer every year from Tata Consultancy Services. As per tuition fees it's realllyyy cheap and they also have bulk loads of government scholarship for you to dive in so that's a help!

The behaviour of teachers and their cooperation

Dislikes

The college campus is not cleaned regularly. It is a big campus but it should be cleaned atleast weekly.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

The fee structure is affordable and can be paid even if a student tutors and earns a little, the fees can be paid from there . What I mean to say is that a student, even if she belongs from a lower middle class, can pay the course fees. Bsc course is higher than Ba course but not much. Scholarships like Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Scholarship can be availed by students to pay for their education. Stipends are awarded to meritorious students and students are motivated to participate in various programmes and inter college events to boost their productivity and creativity.

Behaviour of my professors, classmates and serious.
Lots of availability of books in the library.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

I have no facilities of any scholarship. I have to spent 7000 rs. on my food and shelter. My college takes around 2500 rs. per semester. My college have no placement facilities available. I take a tuition costing 1000 rs.per month.

Green Campus with a variety of medicinal plants along with their name plates.
Presence of zero ragging. A total anti-ragging college.

Dislikes

Hygiene needs to improved quite a bit especially the bathrooms being a girls college.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

Fee structure is totally reliable. Also scholarships and financial assistance are available for the students theough various schemes. Campus employment is also quite developed. Scholarships upto 2lakh amount are provided depending upon the schemes.

I like the faculty members. One does not need any coaching from the outside.
I like the atmosphere in the college and library . It is very student friendly

Dislikes

The college premises does not have an area for sports .
The toilets are not cleaned and not maintained

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

Due to totally government college the fees required is very nominal Per semester wise tutuon fees and other fees are 860 rs approx and Per semester wise examination fee is 700 rs approx . You can get government scholarships but it depends on the family earnings. Otherwise college does not provide any scholarships.

Faculty members, the campus life , my classmates, laboratory and the canteen.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

Our session fees 1300 which we have to pay for a year and after each semester we have to pay 660 rps as tuition fees. One can get a government-funded scholarship if they are eligible for that, like Inspire or Swami Vivekananda. Career counseling webinars and seminars are often organised by our college and different companies like TCS, visit our college for student recruitment.
