I opted for this course because i was interested in sociology. This course prepares me for UPSC, pursuing it for masters and other job opportunity too because apart from sociology we have VAC ( value added course ) and SEC ( skill enhancement course ) which make the skills diverse helping us making the portfolio better. Areas for improvement in curriculum: - Reduce the quantity of the syallbus rather focus on the quality of it. The frequency and timing of exams is based on the schedule set by DU, the exams are moderatoly easy and you can easily ace them just by studying PYQs.
Sociology is one of the youngest social sciences and is rapidly growing in importance. Even if one doesn't want pursue a career in this, it provides a great foundation for futher endeavours. The Faculty of sociology department is one of the best in the entire DU circuit with mostly everyone holding a doctorate. The exams are quite straightforward if one has their concepts clear
I chose sociology as during my high secondary I took a keen interest in sociology and wanted to learn further about it. Thus B.A. Hons in sociology provided me with the knowledge required to study society in a systematic way. The faculty was very good I must say. All of our professors were from reputed universities like Jawaharlal Nehru University, etc. Our department had a very less number of seats hence we were only 40-45 students which made learning easier. The professors and teachers always cooperated with us if in case we had any problems in understanding. They helped us a lot by teaching us the pattern as to how to study for our semester-end exams. The marking system was very strict so I would say the exams were a little bit difficult to pass if you don't have a basic idea or concept of what you're studying.
Students for economically weaker background can fill up the scholarship form and submit it to their respective. Scholarships only provide some book grant. Students who take entry by entrance exam can not get any scholarship.
usually, the fees are very low and depend upon course to course. the fees for the sociology batch is between 12k-14k per year. very affordable right? the additional fees are usually of transportation and living as a PG or in a flat. they are available largely in Satya Niketan which is just opposite the college filled with cafes', coaching centers and lounges'. there is also metro connectivity nearby.
