Ans. Since you haven’t mentioned the branch you are interested in, I will assume you have no particular preference. Now, the primary factor to consider is if you value the brand of the college or the branch of your choice. Consider the following points  You can go for a less preferred branch at the top 5 IITs and then work hard for branch change. But this would be risky as branch change is very difficult. If your target is to get placed with excellent packages, then choose the CSE branch, it has the best job opportunities. You can also choose to work for noncore placements at the top 5 IITs. However, this will be very time-consuming as you have to manage both your noncore branch and CSE.  The best option would be to choose IIT Dhanbad CSE. It’s true that it won’t offer the opportunities and exposure that the top 5 IITs would but for me branch is more important than the brand name of the college. Ans.  I don’t need to even think twice before saying that IIT Dhanbad CSE is a far better option than Thapar CSE. The former is funded by the central government thereby offering an excellent academic background and opportunities. IIT Dhanbad has a beautiful campus and a vibrant campus life.  Here is the placement scenario of its CSE branch: Placement Percentage 93.13% Average Package INR 27.29 LPA Salary Range INR 5 LPA to INR 56 LPA Number of Recruiters 167 Thapar University, on the other hand, is a semi-government tier 2 that cannot be compared to IIT Dhanbad at all. Ans. As a B.Tech ECE student at IIT Dhanbad, I can give you some insight on this course. The ECE faculty consists of a handful of professors who are genuinely interested in this branch. You’ll get to study from them in the last 3-4 semesters. The rest won’t teach or guide you much.  Only the top performers get placed in core companies. Most of the recruitments are made by IT and software firms. For those jobs, you must learn good enough coding to be able to compete with fellow CSE students. Pursue ECE only if you have an interest in Electronics, Semiconductors and Communications Systems. These are some details about B.Tech ECE at IIT Dhanbad. Ans. IIT Dhanbad is better in CSE as compared to IIT Bhubaneswar. IIT Dhanbad, established in 1926, is one of the oldest institutes in the country. On the contrary, IIT Bhubaneswar, established in 2008, comes under the list of new IITs. The overall placement package for CSE at IIT Bhubaneswar might be more alluring than IIT Dhanbad, according to 2019 placement statistics there was 100% placement from the CSE branch and the average placement package offered was around 11.4 LPA while the highest went up to 39 LPA. However, in IIT Dhanbad, the placement rate of the CSE students were 90.23% and the highest CTC offered was 39.5 LPA. Besides the number of students at IIT Dhanbad is more than IIT Bhubaneswar. IIT Dhanbad has an excellent coding culture and organizes a vast number of technical and cultural fests. The number of opportunities in CSE offered by both institutions is almost the same. However, IIT Dhanbad definitely has a slight edge over IIT Bhubaneswar. Being one of the oldest institutes, IIT Dhanbad has better infrastructure as compared to IIT Bhubaneswar. Ans. The answer to this question depends on various factors but to keep it short let’s talk about the NIRF-2019 ranking (engineering category) and placement statistics (CSE Branch) of the institutes. IIT Dhanbad has been ranked at 15th among NIRF Ranking 2019. According to the placement statistics of 2019-20, the percentage of b-tech computer science students placed during campus placements was 90.23%. The percentage of B. Tech & M. Tech in Computer Science & Engineering (dual degree) placed during campus placements was 66.67% with the highest CTC of INR 23.80 LPA. The highest salary package offered in the computer science branch (B. Tech) was 39.50 LPA. The overall average package offered in all the b-tech branches was 15.50 LPA. Major recruiters include Accenture, Goldman Sach, Synopsys, Microsoft, Flipkart, Siemens, Amazon, Adobe, etc. Indian Institute Of Technology, Bhubaneswar has a NIRF Ranking-17. The placement statistics 2019-20 reveal the overall percentage of b-tech students placed during campus placement drives was around 89.55%. The percentage of computer science students placed was 100% this year but the average CTC offered to the students was less than that of IIT Dhanbad. The highest package offered to the computer science branch was INR 39 LPA. The major recruiters included Amazon, Adobe, Accenture, Akash Institute, BYJU, Atkins, Angel Broking, DELL, Honeywell, INTEL technology, etc. The average package offered was 11.90 LPA. Finally, other facilities such as labs, faculty, and other infrastructure at ISM Dhanbad is better than that of IIT Bhubaneswar as the former is one of the oldest elite institutes of the country. IIT Delhi has ties with many big firms that visit the campus for placements and offer great packages irrespective of your branch. One needs to be proficient in DSA and other computer science core subjects such as OOPS, OS, DBMS, and Computer Networks. A good grasp of these will fetch you a high-paying job no matter which branch you belong to in IIT Delhi. Although most companies that visit IIT Delhi also visit NIT, your IIT tag will always fetch you extra benefits and no one can deny that. For instance, the same role offered to an IITiand will have more salary than that offered to a non-IITian.You can easily switch roles and fields given the brand name of the institute you are associated with. IITians even have more opportunities for higher studies in Foreign countries than non-IITians. Ans. There are two sides to every coin. Similarly, there are many reasons why one must choose IIT Delhi over IIT Mumbai and vice versa. To make it further understandable, I have listed some common pros and cons of IIT Delhi Pros You are in proximity to the capital city  It’s easy to prepare for some other exams also apart from Engineering like IAS Hauz Khas village in itself is an absolute treat to the eyes Being in Delhi makes it possible to go for road trips to Jaipur, Chandigarh, Lansdown, Rishikesh, Dehradun, Agra, etc. The Delhi Metro makes commuting quiet easy There are many places to explore and hang out with your friends in the vicinity of the campus. Cons CS department of IIT Bombay is way better than IIT Delhi offering a plethora of diverse courses. The campus of IIT Bombay has more natural landscape and greenery in comparison to IIT Delhi. This enhances the climate and overall ambiance inside the campus  Unlike IIT Delhi, the hostel facilities are much better at IIT Bombay while Delhi hostels are overly crowded. Delhi faces extreme climatic conditions whereas the weather of IIT Bombay somehow remains the same throughout the year. Ans. Do you think getting admission to the most coveted branch will also give access to the most coveted housing facilities? Well, you are wrong, inside IIT your rank has no value. You will be treated like any other student with equal amenities at your disposal. At IIT Delhi, every student is allotted a room randomly without any discrimination. First-year students usually get 2-seater or 3-seater rooms depending on the hostel they are assigned to.  The single rooms you were asking for are usually allotted in the last year but some lucky students get a single room from the 3rd year in a new hostel like Girnar or Udaigiri. But regardless, your hostel will become your new home. Irrespective of the kind of rooms you are allotted, you get adapted to them and make splendid memories and new friends.Read more

Ans. Both programs are equally good in their respective fields and so are the institutions offering the programs. It’s important to consider what you expect from the program and what you plan to achieve after graduation to make the right choice. My sister was in a similar dilemma as yours and eventually, she opted for MCA from IIT Delhi.This program has many courses similar to CS but the only problem is, the pedagogy adopted has a more theoretical approach than practical. Moreover, at some point, you will start questioning the parity of the faculty and will have to resort to self-study. But here is the bright side, most companies coming for CS placements consider MCA students too, and offer decent roles. Although I am not well aware of the situation in Roorkee, I can guarantee a true coding lover will prefer CS to MCA any day.Read more
