Placement

  • Full-time jobs were really hard to get after 2022 summers. There was high inflation and recession fears in 2023, with many organisations putting a hiring freeze in place.
  • There were only 5-10% of students who could secure a good job within 6 months of completing their course.
  • The salary range can be anywhere between 50k and 70k per annum upon graduation.
  • Students usually find jobs through LinkedIn. The applications are usually online and you get a call for an interview if your resume is shortlisted.
  • The placement experiences of batchmates were not so good; it was tough to even get to an interview for a company. They usually got placed in companies like Suncor, Enbridge, Wood PLC, WSP, and Stantec.
  • I got placed in Wood PLC before my graduation and worked in that organization for 2.5 years.

  • I was staying in an off-campus accommodation. I was staying in a 2-bedroom apartment in downtown. It was a shared accommodation where I was staying with 3 other guys.
  • I found them through Facebook and WhatsApp groups prior to landing in Canada. The monthly rent was around $1500 but increased to around $1800 next year.
  • The rent included water and electricity. The main challenge in shared accommodation is that its tough to trust someone you haven't met before.
  • My recommendation is to either stay in downtown or stay close to the university. My accommodation was a 15-20-minute transit ride away from the university. Most of the Indian students stayed near the university or in downtown.

Since my program is brand new, there is no one in the workforce yet so I am unable to answer this question.

I chose this university as the program I’m in is brand new, providing a fresh look at the built environment as a whole, unlike other universities. University is a unique experience. It’s much different than schooling before. You don’t know everyone in your school let alone even your program, making it much for self sufficient than previous schooling. It’s a challenging experience but feels much more rewarding than high school, with assignments posing actual difficulty and high level thinking requirements.

Median salary is 80,000 CAD but our program does not support placements. Students seek out placements on their own but with the support and references of their professors.

I chose this university because of following factors: - Affordable tuition fee plus a funding package of 10,000CAD per year (so I literally paid a few thousand dollars from pocket as tuition). - I also got several scholarships, research assistants and GANT opportunities that helped me fund my stay. - Calgary is an affordable city compared to other big cities in Canada. - My program has a social justice focus and it is known for its community focus - My supervisor and my research interest fit well. Overall, it's a positive experience for me with great tutelage, resources, student support services, international community etc.

There is not any on-campus placement in my university, so there is no such stats it totally depends on your profile and number of connections in the industries.

I have good experience from the perspective of courses, research, infrastructure and funding. University have flexibility about the courses; there is a good research environment and infrastructure.

I do not know about the placement as i am new here but would like to find how it will work., as I took admission In fall 2023 , so I am not well aware of the placement but we have to create a contact and work on it.

The overall experience here is very good not excellent, as the fees for international student are very high , but for the students who are Canadian they have to pay less fees.

Overall experience is very good. The university has all bases covered residence, academics, sports, recreation, and research( also no 1 university in research) and Calgary is the 4th best city to live in, in the world according to the global liveability index.

I am not so sure about this since I haven't attended any of the placement events because of my schedule. But I have seen a good number of events in the campus that will be very helpful for the students.

I have had a great time since coming here. Don't expect that there will always be somebody to help you out because once you cross the border you are all on your own. Appreciate the little help you are getting. Please, sorry, thank you should not leave your lips.

Career services are available but not much assistance in getting you jobs. They help you with resume and documentation, they also hold regular career fairs but that's is just more of a meet and greet.

My experience has been pretty great at the university. I was fully funded so I didn't have much financial strain. Great infrastructure, and facilities all state of the art. Calgary in general is a vibrant city but has pretty bad weather. Winter can be pretty rough here.
