  • Dislikes:
  • The commuter campus aspect of the campus. There is often little engagement between faculties because of this and a difficult transit experience for those living on the other side of the city.

Overview:

I chose this university as the program I’m in is brand new, providing a fresh look at the built environment as a whole, unlike other universities. University is a unique experience. It’s much different than schooling before. You don’t know everyone in your school let alone even your program, making it much for self sufficient than previous schooling. It’s a challenging experience but feels much more rewarding than high school, with assignments posing actual difficulty and high level thinking requirements.

Scholarship:

I received the Rutherford Scholarship for achieving over an 80% average in all three years of high school.

  • Dislikes:
  • They do not have the best placement opportunities for students.,
  • They do not have a big infrastructure like many other bigger institutions in Canada.,
  • They do not pick a lot of international students for my program.

Overview:

I chose this university because of following factors: - Affordable tuition fee plus a funding package of 10,000CAD per year (so I literally paid a few thousand dollars from pocket as tuition). - I also got several scholarships, research assistants and GANT opportunities that helped me fund my stay. - Calgary is an affordable city compared to other big cities in Canada. - My program has a social justice focus and it is known for its community focus - My supervisor and my research interest fit well. Overall, it's a positive experience for me with great tutelage, resources, student support services, international community etc.

Scholarship:

International graduate tuition award - 3060 CAD/year (automatic) Graduate Assistantship Non-Teaching - 2216 CAD/ year (automatic) Travel award for conference - 500 CAD (applied for a conference I attended) Interdepartmental scholarship - 1000 CAD (no application, automatic) Graduate Award Competition - 7000 CAD (application with research proposal, CV, reference letters)

  • Dislikes:
  • I think, these year university is accepting much more students, which basically effect the teacher to student ratio. There is not any on-campus recruitment drive, so think two times if your program need huge investments

Overview:

I have good experience from the perspective of courses, research, infrastructure and funding. University have flexibility about the courses; there is a good research environment and infrastructure.

Scholarship:

I got the Mitacs Globalink graduate fellowship, which is 15000$ for a year only. I am repeating that I am a research student, so this fellowship is in addition to the university's minimum funding, which is 25000$/year.

  • The University is too big and maps doesn't work here, so proper guidance should be there for the students to show the building name as well as map of the building or as we can see in the mall , we can have a big display in the entrance of the building to show the map

Overview:

The overall experience here is very good not excellent, as the fees for international student are very high , but for the students who are Canadian they have to pay less fees.

Scholarship:

No for Indian international student there are no scholarship plans.

Overview:

Scholarship:

Yes a few scholarships I will have to direct you to my linked in can not mention all here. To get them i had to keep GPA over 3.5 on a scale of 4.0 it would be equivalent to 3.8 on a scale of 4.4.

  • Dislikes:
  • The university has a strong co-operative education and internship program that allows students to gain practical work experience in their chosen fields but these are helpful mainly for those in research field. Despite all these as a student doing masters with course work, I don't have that much opportunities to gain some practical knowledge since these are limited for us.

Overview:

I have had a great time since coming here. Don't expect that there will always be somebody to help you out because once you cross the border you are all on your own. Appreciate the little help you are getting. Please, sorry, thank you should not leave your lips.

Scholarship:

I didn't receive any scholarship but I received bursary from my University.

  • Dislikes:
  • Recent fee hikes has been pretty bad. The weather is pretty terrible with big flactutions. Winters are especially pretty harsh in Calgary. Campus residence can be pretty expensive. Housing in general is not that expensive outside campus but public transit is pretty bad.

Overview:

My experience has been pretty great at the university. I was fully funded so I didn't have much financial strain. Great infrastructure, and facilities all state of the art. Calgary in general is a vibrant city but has pretty bad weather. Winter can be pretty rough here.

Scholarship:

Full funding with an additional tuition scholarship of 3000 dollars per year.

  • Dislikes:
  • I would say there is no particular reason to dislike the university. It offers us everything a student expects and wishes for. The one thing that I do not like is how cold Calgary gets during the winters, bone-chilling cold!! It stays around negative thirty for most of the winters. That is one thing to keep in mind while selecting this university. Although, Canada is a very nice and diverse country, winters are one thing to be afraid of.

Overview:

A life changing experience. I grew a lot here. The people, community, atmosphere, everything is on par if not better than the best universities out there.

Scholarship:

I was teaching assistant for 3 semesters out of the 4. Was interviewed.

The IELTS requirement for the said program is an overall band of 7.5. Along with that you must also submit a one-page research proposal and two letters of recommendation. As you have an IELTS score of just 7.0, you have not meet the minimum requirement.

English is the official language of instruction at the University of Calgary. English language proficiency is achieved if you belong to an exempt country. Ghana has been listed as an exempt country. If you have completed at least three or two years of formal full-time study at an English post-secondary institution in Ghana, with proof of education in English, you will satisfy the English Language Proficiency requirement for the university.
