- Bachelor’s in Game Design at Sheridan College is offered as a 4-year teaching program.
- This bachelor program has a co-op work option.
- In order to be eligible to participate in a full-time Co-op Work Term, students must meet the GPA requirements.
- The student to faculty ratio is 16:1 which bridges the gap between faculty and students.
- Some of the main courses that students will study in this program are:
- Introduction to Design Thinking
- Narrative Skills for Game Designers
- Introduction to Game Studies
- Programming for Game Designers 1: Fundamentals
- Composition and Rhetoric
- The student will be able to apply techniques and methods in the production of a diverse portfolio of industry-standard game-art animation assets, game prototypes ad documents.
- Assignments and class work focus on case studies, simulations and lab projects. Students will also complete a Co-op Work Term within the industry. The final semesters in the program are project-based, in which students work in teams to develop a game.
- This program contains a mandatory internship for all students during the spring/summer semester (May–August) between the 6th and 7th academic semesters (3rd year).
- All new international students beginning their full-time postsecondary studies (ESL and programs with tuition reduction excluded) in Spring 2023, Fall 2023 or Winter 2024 semesters in Year 1 (Semester 1) will receive an entrance scholarship ranging from $500 to $2,000.
Learning Outcomes & Careers:
- Create compelling game content for multiple gaming applications, including triple-A, serious, casual, and mobile games, utilizing industry-standard tools and software.
- Deploy a comprehensive knowledge of the historical, cultural, sociological and psychological aspects of computer games to engage with an audience.
- Deploy technology as a discipline, understanding its relationship to other disciplines and its implications and impact on the individual, society and the future.
- Design within the framework of an overall narrative structure to create interesting plots, subplots and gameplay for an area or level.
- Evaluate the degree to which a game can be intuitively engaged by a user.
- Communicate orally, graphically and in writing, employing the professional skills and techniques used in the design, development and documentation of computer games
- The development of critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, written, and oral communication.
- Implement game assets to execute the production of a game within a team setting.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Eligible applicants are selected on the basis of previous academic achievement (the average of their six highest senior-level credits, including required courses).
- Students must hold an Ontario Secondary School diploma with 65% on the combined average course in Grade 12.
- Students need to complete Grade 12 English with 65% or higher.
- Students must provide acceptable proof of at least three years of full-time study in a secondary school (high school) or school system where English was the primary language of teaching and grading.
- Students should have completed two semesters of postsecondary education including required courses with a minimum of 65% overall average.
English Language proficiency:
- Applicants from India, China, Vietnam, Philippines, and Pakistan should note that IELTS is the only proficiency score accepted by the Study Direct Stream (SDS) program.
- Meeting the minimum English requirements does not guarantee admission. Students with higher English proficiency scores will receive priority in the admission assessment process.
- Not all students will qualify for EAP-3106 in place of the required IELTS or TOEFL test scores.
