Macquarie University admissions for Indian students rest on two academic floors, plus a Standard English score. Class XII at around 50% earns undergraduate entry. A bachelor’s degree at around 60% unlocks postgraduate entry. Academic IELTS 6.5 with no band under 6.0 covers most courses, and applications run through Macquarie’s own international portal.
- Session 1 (February) 2027 primary intake opens in August 2026, closes around December 2026.
- Tuition from AUD 46,300 (INR 30.17 Lakhs) yearly, plus AUD 110 (INR 7,168) application fee.
- UG entry: Class XII at 50%, PG from a bachelor’s at 60%, IELTS 6.5 minimum.
- Indicative acceptance rate near 50 to 55%, as Macquarie does not publish an official figure.
Indian applicants concentrate at Macquarie University in Data Science, Commerce, and Actuarial Studies. Many cite the actuarial and finance alumni network across Sydney’s CBD as the main draw, alongside the safer suburban Macquarie Park location.

Macquarie University Eligibility for Indian Students
Eligibility at Macquarie splits cleanly into an academic floor and an English floor. The university maps Indian senior-secondary boards directly through its international academic requirements page, and English requirements are tiered as Competent (Standard), Proficient, and Advanced by faculty.
Macquarie University Academic Floor for Indian Applicants
| Level | Official Requirement |
|---|---|
| UG | No universal Class XII percentage. (recommended 60%) Admission is based on a recognised senior secondary qualification and the specific course's academic entry requirements. |
| PG | No universal bachelor's percentage. (recommended 50%) Applicants need a recognised bachelor's degree, and many courses have course-specific WAM or academic requirements. |
Macquarie University IELTS Waiver for Indian Students
Macquarie University does not list India among the countries whose secondary education automatically satisfies English language requirements. Therefore, completing Class XII in India alone does not exempt applicants from submitting an approved English language test.
However, Indian students may still meet the English language requirement without IELTS if they have completed a recognised tertiary qualification taught and assessed entirely in English, or have completed at least one year of full-time tertiary study (or equivalent) in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or the United States, subject to Macquarie University's assessment. Applicants must provide official academic documentation demonstrating English as the language of instruction.
Macquarie University also accepts IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) results for admission, provided the overall English requirement is met.
| Test | Competent (Standard) | Proficient | Advanced |
|---|---|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | 6.5 overall, minimum 6.0 in each band | 7.0 overall, minimum 6.0 in each band* | 7.5 overall, minimum 7.0 Reading & Writing, 8.0 Listening & Speaking |
| TOEFL iBT | 86 overall | 96 overall | 105 overall |
| PTE Academic | 62 overall | 65 overall | 73 overall |
Macquarie University Postgraduate Programs and Admission
Postgraduate coursework is where most Indian applicants enter Macquarie. Base tuition for international PG students sits in the AUD 38,900 to AUD 93,200 band per year (around INR 25.35 to INR 60.73 Lakhs), with Business, Data, IT, and Engineering streams clustered near AUD 46,000 to AUD 50,000 (INR 29.98 to INR 32.58 Lakhs). The full course-wise list is on the course-wise fees breakdown.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Global Master of Business Administration | 1.5 to 2 years | Bachelor’s at WAM 65 plus 3 years’ managerial work experience | IELTS 6.5 |
| Master of Commerce / Master of International Business | 1.5 to 2 years | Bachelor’s in a related field at 60% or higher | IELTS 6.5 |
| Master of Data Science | 2 years | Bachelor’s with quantitative or computing units at 60% or higher | IELTS 6.5 |
| Master of Business Analytics | 1.5 to 2 years | Bachelor’s with some quantitative coursework, WAM 65 | IELTS 6.5 |
| Master of Management | 1 to 1.5 years | Bachelor’s in any discipline, no work experience required | IELTS 6.5 |
Insider note: Indian applicants who fall just short of the Master of Applied Finance WAM cut-off sometimes route in through the Master of Commerce in Finance major and switch streams after Session 1. Macquarie counts the early units toward the Applied Finance degree if you transfer cleanly.
Macquarie University Undergraduate Programs and Admission
Undergraduate base tuition runs AUD 41,200 to AUD 74,850 per year (around INR 26.85 to INR 48.78 Lakhs). Indian applicants are assessed on Class XII percentage and prerequisite subjects, not Australian ATAR. A typical Bachelor of Engineering candidate from CBSE needs around 70% overall with Mathematics studied through Class XII.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), Mechanical | 4 years | Class XII at 70% with Maths and Physics | IELTS 6.5 |
| Bachelor of Information Technology (Data Science) | 3 years | Class XII at 65% with Mathematics | IELTS 6.5 |
| Bachelor of Science | 3 years | Class XII at 60% with one Science subject | IELTS 6.5 |
| Bachelor of Commerce | 3 years | Class XII at 60% from any stream | IELTS 6.5 |
| Bachelor of Actuarial Studies | 3 years | Class XII at 80% with Mathematics | IELTS 6.5 |
Subject-specific minimums on Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry are stricter than the headline percentage and are enforced even when overall Class XII marks are strong.
Macquarie University Application Process for Indian Students
Macquarie runs a single online application for all coursework programs. The portal accepts up to three program choices in priority order. Macquarie does not use UAC for international coursework outside of a narrow set of pathways, so Indian applicants apply directly.
- Create an account on the Macquarie international application portal.
- Add up to three program preferences, with Session 1 (February) 2027 selected as the entry term.
- Upload certified transcripts, Class XII or bachelor’s degree certificate, English test report, and passport bio page.
- Pay the application fee of AUD 110 (around INR 7,168) by card or wire on the Macquarie international portal.
- Submit and wait for a Macquarie Student ID confirmation email within 5 business days.
- Respond to any conditional document request inside the portal within 28 days.
Macquarie graduates and approved Study Abroad applicants are exempt from the application fee. Everyone else pays before the application moves to assessment.
Macquarie University Admission Decisions and Offer Acceptance
Decisions for complete coursework applications usually come back in 4 to 6 weeks. Decisions can be one of three types: an unconditional offer, a conditional offer pending English test scores or final transcripts, or a refusal. Conditional offers are common for Indian applicants who apply during their final undergraduate semester.
- Offer release window: 4 to 6 weeks for coursework, 10 to 12 weeks for HDR.
- Acceptance deadline: 4 weeks from offer letter date, marked on the letter itself.
- Acceptance fee: Commencement deposit of AUD 16,000 to AUD 23,500 (around INR 10.43 to INR 15.31 Lakhs) depending on course.
- Deferral: Permitted once for up to one full session, requested before paying the deposit.
- CoE release: Confirmation of Enrolment is issued within 5 business days of deposit clearance.
The deposit cleared into Macquarie’s account triggers the CoE, which is the document needed for the student visa application. Delays at this step are the most common reason Indian applicants miss their intended session.
Macquarie University Documents Required for Indian Students
The Macquarie international application is documents-driven and runs end-to-end inside the portal. Indian applicants assemble one paperwork bundle for the academic decision and a second, larger bundle for the visa application after CoE. The Admissions list below covers only the academic stage.
- Indian passport bio-page scan, valid through the planned course end-date.
- Certified Class XII marksheet and passing certificate for UG; bachelor’s transcript and degree certificate for PG.
- English test score report (IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Cambridge, or Duolingo).
- One-page Statement of Purpose tailored to the chosen program.
- CV for PG applicants, with detailed work history for MBA candidates.
- Two reference letters on official letterhead (academic for fresh graduates, professional for MBA).
- Portfolio or work samples for design, media, and creative writing applicants.
- Detailed syllabus copies if applying for advanced standing or credit transfer.
Macquarie University Acceptance Rate for Indian Students
Macquarie does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Third-party admissions trackers consistently cite a figure in the 50 to 55% band for general coursework, based on observed offer-to-application ratios across recent intakes. The rate is materially lower for high-demand programs.
Macquarie University admissions reward early, complete files: a 65% Class XII or bachelor’s record, a Standard IELTS 6.5, the AUD 110 application fee, and a clean SOP. Session 1 (February) 2027 is the primary intake for Indian applicants.

- Firstly the train station and the mall! There is a huge mall called the Macquarie centre right opposite to the campus and the transit to the place is very easy and in convenience.
- The campus itself! It itself is a huge area which has many departments ranging from commerce to medicine to law.
- Making friends! There are n number of societies and clubs from sports to Indian society to clubs for your course. You can even try out for cheerleading if interested. I was studying science and I had friends from commerce, law, medicine, physiotherapy, and many more area!
Dislikes
- Honestly Australia still has some racists. I still remember a tutor in the class who treated me like an outsider, honestly questioned my pronunciation even though my peers understood it completely. So one of my peer stood up and spoke for me.
- Classes are not in a same building! So not all classes are in the same building. You gotta walk a mile from the east wing to the west wing depending on the classes you choose.
- Well this can be either a boon or a bane, Schedules! See, you gotta choose your own classes- helps if you’re working part-time but honestly I thought it was a little too much to make my own schedule. And hey before you call me lazy, no I am not!!! I just like it structured probably was just used to the Indian system of having it spoon fed to me!
Scholarship
- Absolutely! There are many scholarships available for Indian students. I scored one. There are some that let you take a double degree, which is four years in duration, and some are full-ride scholarships.
- You have to be diligent and research well beforehand! Works well if you start right after you receive an offer letter! Well, in my case, I hadn’t really done much research, or else maybe I would have been eligible for a higher scholarship!

Overview
I chose this university because they are strong in the accounting major and have good graduate full-time employment rates.? I have gained a lot from my university, not knowledge from all the lectures but friendships from times I spent days and nights in the library, gaining good relationships and acquaintances that later on were helpful when I joined the workforce. If I could choose again, I would still go to Macquarie University.
Scholarship
Yes, I got an Asian Scholarship, which was $10,000 per year.

First, I searched for courses that I want to pursue and accordingly I researched for university and I found this degree good for me in this university. Going through IDP will help a lot and I would recommend that. The best part of this university is that they offer double degrees at the same time.

This was my first preference because I really wanted to go to uni in Sydney. I really love Sydney so much and I can't wait until I can live there but for now, I have to catch the train but hopefully, I can move there very soon because I feel like good stuff will happen once I'm actually living in Sydney and am close.
Overview
I got an early offer from this university and also because it has a great reputation within Sydney. Also because it is very easy to access as well so transportation becomes very easy. Based in the center of Sydney.
Scholarship
I have availed a financial aid known as HECS help where the government provides an interest-free loan to Australian citizens who have finished school here. It is an interest-free loan where u can pay it off whenever u get a full-time job.
Overview
The open day for Macquarie was sub-par, to say the least, but its potential accessibility, quality of education, and unit offerings made it an attractive option. I ultimately chose to attend this university for its convenient location and career prospects. I applied for 6 universities and was offered places for five. Whilst my ATAR was not spectacular, bonus points pushed me above the line in nearly every case. The enrollment process for Macquarie seemed difficult, but comprehensive. I noted its 'backwardness' and lack of intuitive design, but acknowledged its support that seemed to be missing from other options I explored.I chose this programme for its applicability to my diplomatic plans. I always intended to go into International Relations or something close to it, and International Studies seemed perfect. Compulsory units tend to rely less on exams and more on internal assessments, which has proven to be a great stress reliever. I enjoy participating in class discussions and the programme has catered well to my wants and needs.
Overview
I choose this college because Macquarie is part of the "Big 4" universities in Sydney, as long you are in one of these 4 universities in Sydney then you are "safe" career-wise.
