There are 4 different hostels at IIM Calcutta for MBA students. Some are old and some are new. Facilities at newer hostels are better. MBA is residential program so everyone is allotted a hostel and a single room. Hostel which one receive is based on random allotment.

The Big Four: Ramanujan Hostel (co-ed with separate wings), Tagore Hostel & Annexe (co-ed), White Hostel (male), and New Hostel (male). These are on campus, boast spacious rooms with balconies, and have common areas for chilling and studying. Think friendly vibes and late-night study sessions! 2. Lake View Hostel: The newest kid on the block, offering modern amenities and a bit more distance from the academic hub (15-minute walk). Think peace and quiet for focused study sessions.

Everyone gets a single room along with shared washrooms (the room has a bed, mattress, cupboard, table and bookcase provided for all students)- you get to choose your own wingmates during the 2nd year. The hostel fee is 54K per year and along with that you pay mess fee between 4-5K per month. Given the humid weather of Kolkata, it is hard to stay in rooms that aren't air-conditioned, most students get table fans for the summer season. In the mess, there are veg and non-veg options available and there are extras that can be bought, the mess food quality isn't great but it isn't too bad either - some messes have better food than other messes. All hostels have night mess that sell food till 4-5 am

Hostels are mandatory and the allocation process is random and thus not worth worrying about although there are pros and cons to each hostel: 1. New Hostel: A male-only hostel inhabited predominantly by first years with a pretty decent mess but cramped living quarters. Easily the most tight-knit and vibrant of all the hostels with a shop/eatery within it. 2. Annexe/Tagore Hostel: Adjacent male-only hostels with a pretty good mess and somewhat better rooms. Fairly close to everything on the campus with a shop/eatery as well. 3. Ramanujan Hostel: Co-ed hostel with the smallest rooms and purportedly the best mess. 4. Lake View Hostel: The only hostel with good rooms built this century but far from literally everything and with the worst mess. There are no ACs and the weather is terrible but none of this is actually relevant since you'll enjoy your time at any of these. Note: The messes even at their worst will likely be better than what you've seen in your UG years.

4 Hostels: Old Hostel, White Hostel, New Hostel, and Lake view hostel. WH has the bests food and overall the best experience, while LVH has the best infrastructure but is a bit far from Acad block compared to the other hostels. We get a fully furnished single room with all amenities.

We have 4 hostels, 2 of which are Co-ed, the biggest hostel is LVH which stands for lake view hostel. Hostels have good infrastructure, a centralized air-conditioned hostel will soon be built (work started as much as I know) for 600 students. Mess is handled by the student council and menu changes frequently at the behest of student residents. The registration process is effortless, everything is taken care of beforehand.

Fan and light are available in the room. No AC, even though it's sorely needed The food menu is the same across all 4 messes. However taste differs, depending on the mess contractor. Hostel registration is automatic and randomly allotted. Due to the lack of AC, rooms are not worth the hefty course fees of the premise institute.
There are a total of 4 hostels. 2 are Co-Ed and 2 are boys' hostels. The brand new lake view hostel is huge with lake-facing rooms and large lawns around it. The other hostels are also pretty decent with all facilities available. All hostels have their own mess and tuck shops for food. Mess food is also pretty decent. The only issue is the persistence of insects because of the 7 lakes on campus.
We have a single shared room for everyone on campus and there are 4 hostels namely New Hostel, the old Hostel, the white hostel, and Lake View Hostel. The food quality is good and value for money. There is no specific registration policy.
IIM Calcutta is a residential campus and it is mandatory for everyone to stay in Hostels. There are 4 hostels, 2 boys (New Hostel & White Hostel) and 2 coeds (Lake View Hostel & Ramanujan Hostel). Additionally, a new hostel is under construction, which will be a centrally air-conditioned accommodation for the students.
IIM Calcutta has four hostels for PGP students, two of which are co-ed and the other two are boys' hostels.
The rooms are more than adequate for a 50+-year-old, long-established institution. The most recent hostel is the Lake View Hostel, which was built in 2008. The other hostels are basic, but the facilities and power backup are fairly similar. The rooms are quite large, the beds are comfortable, and, most importantly, there are individual balconies.
It's fine unless you're not used to eating mess food. In that case, you may grow tired of the same dishes. Food isn't an issue if you don't mind spending a little money – now and then to eat out. You could also pay extra and have a few extra items made from the mess for yourself.
The mess is run by the student body, and you can bargain over the prices and menu items. The real problem is that mess workers are members of the local union and thus have some bargaining power, which is common in West Bengal.
