The curriculum is best as of now. In majority of the colleges the curriculum is outdated but VIT focuses on updating the curriculum. for example- there is a subject know as engineering drawing which in most colleges is teaches on chart paper which is outdated, VIT teaches this subject on Solid works a CAD(Computer Aided design) which is a software which is used in companies all over the globe and the subject is now known as EDVL(ENGINEERING DESIGN VISUALISATION LAB)

Actually i am interested in the mechanical department and when i study in vellore institute if technology, i came to know many mechanical emerging trends and day to day life acheivements in mechanical engineering students. The ofer real time education like high end machinary which gives more knowledge to students. Exams frequency are bit very narrow and should be increased for students to practice more.

Mechanical curriculum got updated after since 2021, they have included AI/ML even for non-CS students to compete in the real world. EV is introduced as well instead of conventional automobile engineering

The curriculum is mostly influenced by industrial needs and were taught by SR.professors. the course curriculum is changed year by year by taking inputs from the students itself every semester to enhance the course. it is well-maintained to touch the industry needs and real time applications without losing the old applications also.

Right now I'm a first year student so we haven't learnt much about our core. But I did have one core subject in each semester and both were interesting and effective in their own ways. From second year onwards we will have more subjects

There would be mid-term exams and final term-end exams in each semester. Specifically talking about mechanical engineering there are different Baja Buggy student teams, they will provide you with hands-on experience and real-world problems that are out of books.

I will rate my course 9 I have influenced through my friends and my senior who already studied. And I to have interest towards the mechanical core so I chosen this course. The curriculum in this campus was very good the providers the best knowledge and the teaching methods were very efficient and friendly the teachers the real time projects we walk on the internships which is forwarded by college and other companies. Very easy Stephen. The timings which are conducted in my college was 3 months a semester. If anyone get failed in semester they will be having extra classes and they will be taking care of by the college they have extra classes to. The teaching methods are very efficient and understanding.

It's pretty good curcilum for mechanical engineering when compared to other colleges. Good labs. 2 mid and one final exams. The exams will be tough and some are easy . The 2nd mid will be an open book examination .

Computer science was the most dominant course and I personally felt that the cs field was overflowing with too many enrollments. Mechanical is a evergreen field ensuring decent placements in core as well as IT fields

It's good in my opinion as we have something like ffcs full form fill flexible credit system in which you can decide which subject you want to study in this semester and you can also choose the time slot for the classes and teachers ,, and we also have labs in which we do pratical works so we get prepared for the real world.
NIT Calicut stands among the top NITs where you will get a lot of exposure to extracurricular activities. As it’s a government college, the fees will be relatively low as compared to private universities like VIT Vellore.
On the other hand, VIT Vellore isn’t that great institute plus being a private institute the fees is quite high for most middle-class students. If you choose Mechanical here then you can go for two different paths.
Categories | Mechanical at NIT Calicut | CSE at VIT Vellore |
Course Fee | 5.48 lakhs | 7.83 lakhs |
Highest CTC | 20 LPA | 20 LPA |
Average CTC | 9 LPA | 6-8 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | L&T, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Tata Motors, etc. | Flipkart, Oracle, HP, Dell, etc. |
At last, it all depends on your interest and caliber to do well on various career paths. However, if you are inclined towards CSE only then VIT is quite a good option because placements are pretty good there for CSE. Some of the major recruiters include PayPal, Microsoft, Amazon, Morgan Stanley, etc.
A few cousins of mine have completed their B.Tech from VIT Vellore with different branches. With them being successfully placed, their experience says you must choose VIT among both of these. Here’s why:
Categories |
Mechanical at VIT Vellore |
Mechanical at PEC Chandigarh |
Course Fee |
7.83 lakhs |
6.39 lakhs |
Placement Percentage |
80-90% |

Highest CTC |

Average CTC |
5-6 LPA |
6.5 LPA |
Recruiting Companies |
Accenture, Goldman Sachs, Wipro, Infosys, etc. |
JP Morgan, MySQL, HPCL, Tata, etc. |
In the end, it is best recommended to choose VIT Vellore for Mechanical engineering as it offers better exposure and opportunities. However, PEC is also a good college and its fee structure is quite nominal as compared to VIT. In case of budget constraints, go for PEC.
