Pondicherry University, also known as PU is a central university located in Pondicherry. Established in 1985, this university is recognized by the UGC and approved by the AICTE, NICTE, and DEB. It is accredited with an ‘A’ grade by NAAC. PU was ranked in the rank band #101-150 in NIRF 2023 and #1201-1400 in QS World University Rankings 2024.

Pondicherry University has many collaborations and has signed MOUs with various national and international institutions to provide its students with more opportunities in the field of research. College has an amazing library where you can sit and study till 9 at night. Postings are held everyday for six days a week and there is a good patient load
Regular weekly internal assessments are conducted. This makes sure that the topics studied well and if you get less than 50 percent in any exam, then they will ruin your life, and due to that frustration you will study.

Dislikes

Hostel rules are pathetic. Both for boys and girls. I am in girls hostel so i will speak on its behalf. You can not come and stay in your room in between classes, if you want to or if you are sick. You can not leave the campus for anything at anytime
General atmosphere is very back dated. Boys and girls should never be seen talking. If some staff sees you, they will click picture and send it to the authorities and they will suspend you from college!

Admission:

Eligibility is through neet examination. A person needs to appear neet, qualify it, apply for CENTAC (Pondicherry University website for MBBS), and then according to the marks, will be allotted a seat in any of the medical colleges that come under Pondicherry University. Time taken is usually more than the other states, I was in the COVID-19 batch, and they took around 3 months to finish their counseling and provide me with a college.

The admission is done by NTA's CUET (PG) exams. Based on the score in the respective paper(for my course- Disaster studies), rank list will be provided. Depending on the availability of seats, 3 merit list for provisional admission will be out and if the seats are yet to be filled, they will call for open admissions.

When I wrote the entrance it was not CUET, but pondicherry University entrance exam. So the cut off was varying. For the general category cut off was 170 marks. But for reservation, anything close to 120 was accepted. Reservation benefits were good and financial aid was also given help with.

National Fellowship for Higher Education of ST Students (previously known as Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship)	Open to Scheduled Tribe students Transgender candidates are eligible to apply under the scheme Student must be enrolled in full time M.Phil and Ph.D degree in Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Engineering & Technology	Fellowship of INR 25,000 annually for initial two years INR 28,000/-pa for remaining tenure (5 years or till viva) Reader’s assistance - INR 2000 per month in cases of physically handicapped & blind candidates
Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship / Maulana Azad National Fellowship	5 year fellowships in the form of financial assistance to students from six notified minority communities (viz. Buddhist, Christian, Jain, Muslim, Parsi and Sikh) to pursue M. Phil and Ph.D in a recognized UGC approved university Prior clearance of UGC-NET or Joint CSIR-UGC NET examination Incom ceiling of the applicant’s family should be INR 6 Lakh per annum	Fellowship in Humanities and Social Science and in Engineering & Technology - INR 31,000 per month for initial two years. INR 35,000 per month. for remaining tenure (SRF) Escorts/Reader assistance- Escorts/Reader assistance -INR 2000 per month in cases of physically handicapped & blind candidates. 30% of the fellowship shall be earmarked for women students
Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child	The girl students who are admitted to various non-professional PG courses in Universities / Colleges and happen to be the only girl child in the family without having any brother The scheme is applicable to such a single girl child who has taken admission in regular, full-time 1st year Masters Degree course in any recognized university or a postgraduate college This scholarship is available to PG-I year students only. Admission to Distance education mode is not covered under the scheme.	Compensation of direct costs of girl education to all levels will be given by the government of India The selected single-girl will receive INR 3,000 per month for 2 years.
PG Merit Scholarship for University Rank Holders by UGC	The scholarship will be given to undergraduate First and Second Rank winners who have been accepted into any Postgraduate ourse Students who have enrolled in a conventional, full-time Master's degree program at a recognized university, acknowledged university, private university, autonomous college, or post graduate college are eligible for the program Application process: The National Scholarship Portal of the Government of India will only accept applications once a year. Additionally, a brief notice will be posted on the UGC website	Amount of fellowship: Rs.3,100/- p.m for a period of two years only i.e. full duration of a PG course No other additional grant will be payable in lieu of hostel charges and medical charges etc The student who is awarded Post-Graduate Scholarship for University Rank Holders will not be debarred from accepting any other scholarships
Government of Puducherry Fellowship / Scholarship Merit and Merit-cum-Means Scholarship	Merit and Merit-cum-means scholarships for the students belonging to the U.T. of Pondicherry enrolled in various courses of the University 2 fellowships to the residents/ natives of Pondicherry	INR 3,000 per month to two students admitted in the M.Sc. Biotechnology programme in the Department of Biotechnology
Government of India- DBT Special Fund:	The Government of India provides fellowship to 23 students admitted in the M.Sc Biotechnology programme	INR 5,000 per month each
Madanjeet Singh Group Scholarship	Full scholarships for 8 students per annum to pursue M.Tech (Green Energy Technology) 16 students per annum to pursue M.A(South Asian Studies) from the member states of SAARC Countries	covers living expenses 10,000 per month, free Hostel accommodation on campus and tuition fees.
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy(MNRE)	15 M.Tech Fellowship and 5 Ph.D Fellowship to students admitted having GATE/CSIR qualification
GATE Scholarship	GATE qualified M.Tech students	Post Graduate Scholarship of Rs. 12,400/- per month
Scholarship for M.Tech Computational Biology	UGC / CSIR NET qualified JRFs are eligible for this scholarship Students are also eligible for a contingent grant as per UGC rate. The award of fellowship and contingency grants are subject to approval by the UGC / CSIR	Eligible students get fellowships INR 25,000 per month for two years This may be enhanced to INR 28,000 per month on completion of two years and subject to fulfilling certain conditions laid down by the UGC /CSIR

At present, admissions are open only for PG and PG Diploma courses including MCA. The admissions were started on 29^th April 2024. The last date of applying for admission is 26^th May 2024. Pondicherry University provides admissions to MCA on the basis of marks secured in CUET PG and not TANCET.
