IIM Bangalore Placements 2024: Average Package: INR 35.92 LPA & Median Package: INR 32.5 LPA

There is no question at all if you are optimising for salary in the short term. On average, you would earn more at IIM Ahmedabad and Bangalore than at FMS. In the long run, it will be much more dependent on you and a little bit on the profile you want to work in. However, ceteris paribus and on average IIM Ahmedabad or IIM Bangalore will earn more or as much as an FMS grad. Choose A or B if you want to maximise your placement salary.

Whether you should optimise for placement salary is a different question, and the answer depends on what you want to do with your life.

IIM Bangalore is an IIM that managed to attain 100% placement this year despite a slowdown in the job market in India. IIM Bangalore wrapped its final placement round for the PGP and PGP in the Bachelor of Arts for the batch of 2021-23 students. The excellent placement drive witnessed more than 600 offers for 512.

Consulting and product management roles saw a hike apart from an increase in offers across all sectors. As usual, the most sought-after role among the students was Strategy consulting followed by general management and product management.

The two most important factors considered by recruiters during Placements at IIM ABC/FMS/XLRI are

1. Brand of UG College - SRCC/Old IITs/BITS/CA
2. High Academics - University RankHolders, City Toppers in Boards, or at least Department Rank Holders with 8.5+ in Engineering. 

MBA scores are of much importance during Final Placements but are Not available during summer placement.

If you have passed the above criteria, you are most likely to land any job. Still, I have segregated the roles that require work experience and the roles that do not.

Roles that require work experience 

• Operations/Supply chain/product management. 
• Any role will require work experience if your above 2 criteria are not up to the mark.

Roles that do not require work experience 

• Consulting
• Investment Banking
• PE/VC
• Marketing 
• Corporate Finance roles

So most of the jobs do not require work experience. Even if they do only non-engineering work experience is of value unless you want to go into Operations/Supply chain/product management.

IIM Bangalore has released its placement report for the PGP and PGPBA batch of 2022. According to this report, 662 offers were made to 524 students by 137 recruiters. Average Salary is INR 33.82 LPA whereas Median Salary is around NR 31.2 LPA.

In the EPGP batch of 2022, 30 companies participated in the placement drive and recruited 71 students. Average CTC is INR 30.90 LPA and Median CTC is INR 30 LPA.

Some major firms that visited for recruitment are BCG, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, TAS, and Nestle.

IIM Bangalore has been able to achieve 100% summer placements due to the combined and relentless efforts of students, seniors, placement committees, and clubs. No institute can work properly without a proper cordial relationship among these. Summer placements take place after the end of 2nd term but students start preparing well before the beginning of the term. The following points entail the details of preparation for summer placements k:

• Preparatory sessions: The student clubs and societies hold preparation sessions for significant roles in Consulting, Product Management, Finance, Marketing, Operations, and Analytics.
• Alumni sessions: Experienced alumni from different sectors working at reputed firms come forward and conduct sessions to share their job experience. This enables the students to make better choices for their careers.
• Case preparation: The ones who are preparing for consulting roles form a case preparation group wherein they practice mock cases. Mock group discussions and interviews facilitated by clubs and seniors are also conducted.
• Peer support group: The peers are competitive yet very considerate towards each other. They don’t celebrate their victory unless all their batchmates have been placed. This installs a feeling of compassion and empathy.
• Placement committee: The major credit for 100% of placements should go to the relentlessly working placement committee of IIM Bangalore. It strives to bring in as many major companies as possible. It conducts an unbiased and transparent placement drive.

So all these reasons have resulted in 100% placements at IIM Bangalore today. It’s the combined efforts of not one but many.

The placements for EPGP at IIM Bangalore are excellent and even better than that of IIM Ahmedabad and ISB. Only the best companies visit and offer high packages.

The Institute has also released its placement report for the EPGP batch of 2022. According to it, 30 companies participated in the placement drive and recruited 71 students. The maximum number of students was recruited by Accenture and the average CTC of INR 30.90 LPA was offered and the median CTC stood at INR 30 LPA.

Some of the top recruiters included Accenture Strategy, Amazon, PwC, Manyavar, Microsoft. MindTree, Bain & Company. The highest number of placement offers were made by the Consulting industry followed by the IT industry.

When comparing the placements of the two, ISB and IIMs, the batch size hardly matters because both institutes market different products. The background and profiles of students of both institutes are too versatile to draw comparisons. If I roughly divide the ISB students and the kind of placement scenario they face then

• 90% of students get their dream jobs in the desired sector and company 
• 10% of the students get jobs that are below their expectations but not worse enough to forgo the offers

So the batch size does not matter here and ISB Hyderabad placements are themselves quite satisfactory.

IIM Bangalore's reputation will be sufficient to connect you to a number of good job opportunities. Aside from the good placement cell, IIMB has an excellent brand name and alum base. As a result, continuing with the course makes sense. Students will be prepared to assume leadership roles in using analytics and artificial intelligence to solve increasingly complex problems through the two-year, full-time, residential program. It lasts for two years, six trimesters long, and includes a summer project in the middle.
