Calculating IELTS Score

Your IELTS score is the average of your listening, reading, writing, and speaking sections, rounded to the nearest whole or half band. The total score of IELTS syllabus ranges from 0 to 9 scale. You can get your overall IELTS band scale and sectional score on your test report form. Check the list below to understand IELTS score calculation:

  • Listening: 5.0
  • Reading: 6.0
  • Writing: 6.5
  • Speaking: 5.5

Overall: 5.0 + 6.0 + 6.5 + 5.5= 23/4 = 5.75

The overall band will be 6.0 because 5.75 is near 6.0.

  • Listening: 6.5
  • Reading: 5.5
  • Writing: 6.0
  • Speaking: 7.0

Overall: 6.5 + 5.5 + 6.0 + 7.0= 25/4 (divided by 4 because of 4 sections)

= 6.25 This is the average score.

The overall score is now calculated to the nearest half, which is 6.5 because 6.25 lies between 6.0 and 6.5.
