Course Curriculum Overview

4

If you have passion and have artistic views then surely you'll shine in Dentistry. It's a professional course and after your graduation you get the suffix before your name as Doctor. But if you are thinking that you can get a good job just after passing BDS then you're wrong. there's struggle but if you're passionate you can go for NEET-PG for MDS or can set up your own clinic. There's two major exams in our college. 1. One internal assessment examination which is nearly of full syllabus. 2.The West Bengal University of Health Sciences takes BDS 1st to 4th Professional exams for each year. There is 70 marks theory and 130 marks for viva , practical, internal marks etc.

Placement Experience

4

As it's not like a general engineering college, there no job placements. It's a government college and in our couse a 1 yr internship is mandatory to get the BDS degree after the 4 years of studies. Currently the stipend provided is 23.8k per month to a internee.

College Events

4

There are various events celebrated 1.The Annual picnic of BDC&H 2. The college feast Sensation 3. Saraswati puja 4.Holi 5. Ifter-e-Majlish etc. 6. Annual sports CHAMPS And all the special days as World Cancer day, No tobacco day are celebrated. Recently a tree plantation programme had been done with plantation of 140 plus saplings around our college ground.

Fee Structure And Facilities

As it's a college under Government of West Bengal , the fees are very minimal for the couse. There is ?7800 taken as tuition fees and ?2000 for exam fees are taken every year. During admission ?1000 was taken as admission fees.

Fees and Financial Aid

No scholarship is provided by the college. But students applies and gets the post matric , minority , SC/ST scholarship who are eligible for that. There's a student's section and students also gets help from seniors regarding that.

Campus Life

3.5

The labs are pretty good and now we have a new 5 storied hospital building. The set up chairs , facilities are very good. We have indoor games like Carrom and Table tennis and a big playground where football, cricket etc sports are being Played.

Hostel Facilities

1

Still now there's no hostel facility available as the college is placed in a congested area there's no space to build a hostel. But recently government had handed over land for hostel in some distance to the College. So, currently students are staying in PGs or room rent in just near areas to the College. It takes about 1-3k for room rent and 2-3k for food.

Alumni/Alumna

As the college was set up in the year 2009. The alumni network was not large but the seniors and pass-outs are really helpful. They tells us about how to study , helps us on our lab and works on patient.

Admission

Firstly I have appeared NEET-UG 2017 , secured an AIR 47488 & State rank based on that was 1584 general rank. The candidate should have 50% scored in Physics Chemistry Biology and English in 12th board exam to appear for NEET-UG. After the neet AIR , I have applied with a 2000 rupees fees and went for verification for state quota in my own state West Bengal. I got admitted in this government dental college as a General category student in the Mop up or manual round after 2 online and one 1st mop up round.

Faculty

4

The facilities are very good and of adequate in number. There are senior Doctors and HODs in each 7 departments and all of them had done MDS and some had done PHd too. and some are India even Asia famous in their specialised field.

The teachers are very supportive and we have practicals and Clinical postings from 3rd year. We are given 10 patients each from 3rd year to treat. I think instead of two exams we must have two small weekly tests so that our memory power can increase.

The patient exposure in this curriculum is highly appreciable. The curriculum prepares us to do the best hand work in every possible manner. It prepares us to deal with the outside world independently. The course needs to be advertised a little bit,the awareness and view of people towards this needs to be improved which can be done by spreading awareness and providing more facilities to existing students in the field. The frequency and timing of exams are quite good as it prepares us for the best.

This is a professional course, and there is still demand. There are 9 departments in the college itself and each has 5-8 teachers. Medical subjects are taught by Medical College Kolkata and their respective departments. Majority of the faculty are post graduate and most are more or less adept at what they do.
