Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum is great in doing what it is meant to, and as a structural BSMS course. It gives you more information then a classical Bsc course and prepares you entirely for a PhD is the topic of your choosing. What got me here is the freedom of choosing, you can choose whatever courses you want, regardless of what major you want, and best of all, you dont need to qualify for a major to graduate. Hence there is a complete freedom of choice over what cources you like and what you want to pursue later in your academic carrier. There are a few nooks where teaching methods could be better but that translates from professor to professor and is not a complete view of the college itself. Exams occur every two months, and there are many quizzes in between, this leaves no time to rest for students who are jumping from one quiz to another and are instantly faced with exams. The difficulty level is again decided by the course coordinator and is mostly okay for all.

Fees and Financial Aid

Tuition fees is 38k Hostel fees is 10k caution fees is 10k lab fees is 20k all pther charges included the total fees is 120000 per year and for sc/st it is only tuition fees so 38k this does not include mess

Campus Life

5

Karavaan is the name of the cultural festival of IISER Pune, we have multiple dj nights, cultural and talent showcases and a prom night. Library is available to all, and is stocked full of various books and journals you can find, this helos alot with the coursework and availability of even more ebooks makes it all so much better. all classrooms are fitted with speakers and mics, along with projectors and screens. the bigger classroom is also fitted with a camera and two additional televisions at the back of the class for help of studemts at the back. There are various courts and grounds including basketball, volleyball, cricket, football, track and field. all of this is maintained properly and kept in good condition The entire non academic life of the student is run by student run clubs, which conduct various activities and fun events for everyone

Hostel Facilities

3

In the boys hostel, the rooms are equipped with a bedframe, a cupboard, a study table, a chair, a fitted shelf, etc for each person and there are two persons in one room. There is ample space given and rooms are comfortable to live in. Boys hostel bathrooms are a hassle though. Mess food is good, in the sense it is better than just edible food, but obviously it's no restaurant. The quality might be an issue, as various people have gotten food poisoning, cockroached and fungus in their foods, but actions were taken and it seems to be in a better condition now. Registration process is simple, as hostel is mandatory for everyone, there is no specialized registration, when you arrive to campus the first time, rooms are distributed on first come first serve basis. and your keys are handed to you instantly.

Admission

I applied to NISER as my second, where i got selected but i chose this. Other colleges i applied to were other iisers, i got selected to all of them. The reason i chose this is because of the curriculum and the freedom of choice. The admission process is through various portals. through jee advanced and iat. I had qualified for the college through both portals. now recently they closed the advanced portal and the admissions now are only through IAT or IISER Aptitude Test.

Faculty

4

Faculty to studemt ratio is mot great, but it is difficult to determine in early semesters, since classes are very huge compared to later ones. I personally likes Madhusudan, as his course, even though biology, was easily approachable by other subjects students. One i disliked was Nagraj, for the opposite of the reason, he wasnt very approachable for other subjects. Each course has an exam, the method of exam, marks, structure of the exam are all decided by the professor who is the course coordinator. He/She decides the paper, the grading system, and who all get A+ grade. The cource curriculum is also designed by the coordinator and is very relevant to the exams. The exam themselves are never so difficult and most people clear most of the exams. only a handful failing to pass the semester

Night Life

5

Campus is alive at night, youre the wierdo to sleep at before 2 am most of the club activities happen after 8-9 pm and last upto 12-1 am, and are usually followed by hangouts and off club discussions in the people involved. The gym opens in the morning and in the evening till 9pm, the library is open till 11 pm. There is no campus or hostel curfew, you are allowed to leave or comback anytime you want. Inside campus the most frequented place to handout is the MDP, which js the midnight canteen and is in the middle of the campus. Oitside campus, most of the local shops close by 10-11 pm but before then its a great vibe to just walk around and window shop.

Placement Experience:

Our college encourages diversification but due to the primary aim being research, most people go for a career in academia but placements are also provided in major companies but the percentage of students going for this choice is low.

Students are eligible for sitting for summer internship programmes of iiser pune. Not many software companies visit this college for placements as most of the students of this college sit for higher studies for their PhDs or publish research articles. However a student who wishes to get a job in corporate can get an online course of computer science done and apply for off campus placements as the IISER PUNE tag value along with good skills are more than enough for you to get a high paying job.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course contents are good but could be too lengthy for some as the semester is only of 4 months which is not sufficient for such large course contents. The grading is relative which gives fairness to everyone.

I think the current course curriculum is enough and really good no need to improve further. Frequency of exams are 2 months Midsems and endsems and quizzes in Between then.

Placement Experience:

The campus is one of the factors why the IITs are hyped this much. The placements are good with the average placements clocking somewhere around 23.5 LPA. Students become eligible for placements from the third year, where they can complete an internship, and if they get a PPO, they are good to go. Companies like JANE STREET, BANE AND COMPANY, NVIDIA, and FANG visit the campus for placements, providing offers as high as four crores per annum. The 4 cr was offered by JANE STREET for HIGH-FREQUENCY TRADING. The percentage of students graduating is close to 80% , the remaining are students going for higher studies or preping for some government exams, there is rarely an unemployed graduating student.

Placement Experience:

Placement opportunities at IIT Bombay are very good. But getting a high paying job depends on an individual - how skilled and qualified they become after 4 years. If you lay focus on academics and build your personality with all the resources and networks you have IIT Bombay, you'll definitely land at a very good place in your life. There are also startups and business opportunities. Entrepreneurship is encouraged by the departments.

Placement Experience:

As there was placement in the year 2021 which is nearly 56 percent. Around 20 companies visited campus like TCS, AKASH, CIPLA etc. for placement. But most of student do not like placement becuase they have their plan about research so they do phd and post doc in their career which they think best according to their opinion. But in 2021 the avg. package was 8 lpa and each participant have 2 offer. Also the highest package is 13 lpa, which is very nice as compare. but the main reson is research that's why placement is not so higher.
