Remarks :

All in all, given the current medical scenario it is a good college for Orthopaedics. If you do not get any well known government hospital, I would rather you take this over a state private hospital as they raise a score of problems later on especially with regards to the fees. The academic part is amazing so even though the patient inflow is slightly less it doesn't hurt as much as you are exposed to every kind of case and surgery in the stream which doesn't happen in government hospitals.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Even though the patient inflow is slightly less compared to government hospitals, you are exposed to all kinds of cases possible in the stream of orthopaedics. There are regular classes 5 days a week and a lot of attention is given to the academic part apart from the obvious physical demands. All in all it is definitely worth taking orthopaedics in this college.

Internships Opportunities :

I'm pursuing postgraduation so I don't really know about the internship although from what I gather it is not very good in terms of stipend and exposure. The interns are generally those that completed MBBS here and we don't see any externs so that is that.

Placement Experience :

The faculty is very accomodating in terms of taking you under their wings once you complete your post graduation as a senior resident. There are no external job placements per se from the hospital but KLE having a good name in itself in the fraternity gives a good boost to your CV.

College Events :

The college is rife with both cultural and academic event. It has its yearly cultural fest which goes by the name Trinity. Apart from that there are regular Post graduate integration teaching courses in addition to individual events of every department.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Being a deemed college, the fee structure is most definitely on the extravagant side. However given the current trends and situations of medical colleges in India especially in post graduate scene, it is acceptable if you consider other deemed colleges and the quality that this college provides.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Unfortunately there is no scholarship given by the college. Although they do have a tie up with syndicate bank and as they are partners they give you with a decent enough loan option from the latter. It's not great but ok.

Campus Life :

Extracurricular activities are definitely there but as a postgraduate you won't have time for it. There is a swimming pool, a gymnasium, a huge ground, tennis courts or just the entire campus in general if you wish to go for a run. The library is pretty amazing too with separate rooms for ug, pg, consultants and all possible books related to a stream.

Hostel Facilities :

This is one of the biggest plus of this institution. The hostel infrastructure is absolutely remarkable. It is a green campus with lots of trees and as the inherent climate of the city is amazing, it adds to the welcome breeze. The hostel is at a 10 minute walking distance from the hospital within the same campus. Although they don't allow cars In the hostel now (only 2 wheelers), they are about to start an underground parking area so that should be sorted too. The mess costs around 3300 a month with breakfast, lunch, dinner and given the spread it is more than worth it.

Alumni/Alumna :

Alumni network is very well maintained with most of them giving visiting lectures whenever they are in the city. The seniors obviously depend on the stream you are in but in general they are pretty amazing considering the kind of seniors you get in medical field ( sadly). My batchmates in general are a great set of people so following juniors should have a lovely time.

Exam Structure :

For postgraduates there is an annual exam officially although almost everyday is an exam as you can and will be asked anything and everything related to a case in the rounds. You have to give theory and practical examination annually which includes a prelims exam in final year before the university exams. For undergraduates there is a semester pattern along with end posting exams which are conducted monthly or at the end of every posting.

Admission :

Their admission process is pretty sorted. After the merit list is displayed, make sure you go on to the website of the college where they have provided all the required information regarding documents which will be needed, the payment amount and method, hostel allocation details, important dates, etc. Once you go down to the college physically, go to the auditorium building wherein there will be a row of counters with faculty cross checking your documents, photos, asking you a swinging by question and collecting payment. They are pretty helpful with queries and doubts. After this is done you can pay the course fees and hostel fees at the fee section in jnmc building and take a joining form from your respective department, get the HOD's sign, who alots the unit, meet your seniors and get started.

Faculty :

The faculty is very accomodating and have a high skill set and knowledge. They perform all kinds of surgeries from trauma, replacement, arthroscopy to spine surgeries. They never hesitate to answer your queries and keep you on your toes to keep up with the theoretical aspect of the stream along with the practical. They drive you to do case reports and publications which is an added advantage.

Course Curriculum Overview:

MS General Surgery in MMC was supposed to be the best in Karnataka. But overall, it's not comparable to any top colleges of India. Pros : 1. High OPD patient load. Variety of cases seen. 2. Inpatient load is also good. From 50 to 100 cases on an average per week in any unit. 3. Good OT setup and availability of Laparoscopy. 4. Due to PGs in almost all departments, any emergency was attended to faster and was available for on-call consultation. 5. PGs can attend Regular CMEs conducted in and around Mysore. Cons : 1. Academics is decent at best. Regular classes were canceled for almost the entire 2 yrs. 2. No Regular tests or term exams were conducted nor was there any special interest in research. 4. Surgical hands-on training is given only in the last part of the final year if senior staff allow it. 5. No Laparoscopic training was given. Only handling of instruments is learned. 6. Infrastructure and facilities are limited. 7. Thesis and Exam preparation only in the last 3 to 4 months.
