What Students Say
Likes
- The aspects of the college that i appreciate are the lesser rules and freedom provided by this Institute. Casual wears are allowed and conversations with opposite genders are not seen as a taboo inside the campus. The infrastructure is really great.
- All kind of social interactions are being promoted inside the campus. It has a lot of clubs for that sole purpose of achieving good conversation between the seniors and juniors of the college.
- Labs are well equipped and maintained regularly. There are a lot of components and practical opportunities offered to the students
Dislikes
- The curriculum is strict. Attendance is made mandatory to be more than are equal which is okay, but those who do not maintain it are strictly Debarred from attending any examination Without a proper reason
- There are a lot of procedures to be followed in case we vacate the hostel while our course isnt completely over.
- The college attracted a big crowd. So anyone will feel a lack of enough private spaces in the college campus.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum offers great insights into practical implementation. By which I am trying to say that once we are thorough with the theory part, it will be very easy for the students to attend the lab examinations easily. The frequency of examinations are a bit hectic.
Internships Opportunities
Companies like honeywells, L&T, siemens do visit the campus to provide students with internships. The roles vary depending on the vacancy inside the company that comes for the recruitments. Projects for each important core subjects are mandatory for internal marks and they are reviewed by the faculty for further publishment of thr work or if it is really good the Institute allocates this idea some funds for a startup
Placement Experience
Companies come with paid internship offers right from the 6th semester. TCS and INFOSYS are the top recruiters but still a lot of companies do come to this campus. The highest package this year was upto 1crore per annum for a cse student Almost 100? who are sitting in the placements get recruited by some company. My plan is to pursue higher studies after my undergraduate.
Fees and Financial Aid
I had enough rank in the VITEEE test to come under the first category of admission (cheapest). The year wise fee I pay is ?1, 63,000 as tuition fee only. There is only one fee of ?5,200 which is paid during the admission process. Other than this, there are no fees i pay extra throught the year. So in total, for the term of 4 years as a B. Tech undergraduate, I must pay 6,52,000 only for the tuition. My batchmates who joined in with second fee category, pay a lakh more. As the category goes up the fee structure goes up by a lakh. The for the Toppers of VITEEE, the university select the students and they are provided incentive waivers but it is decided by the Institute.
Campus Life
There is one technical fest and one annual fest held during an academic year. Technical fests usually come around august and the annual fest comes around march. Every classroom has 4 boards (2 blackboards and two boards for markers). Every book is accessible in the library and the process of lending giving back is completely digitalized. But there are not enough books for all the students if they need it at the same time. The campus has less space for cricket or football. Sports like hockey, basketball, volleyball, badminton are highly being encouraged and the infrastructure is present in a good condition as well.
Hostel Facilities
Students are provided a cupboard attached with a bunker bed on it. A common mirror, a chair, and a study table with its own small Cupboard. Meal quality goes up with the pay scale. The menu is selected by the hostel representatives from the students. Hostel is quite expensive but when comapared to the rates of chennai, it is quite recent.
Admission
I applied for sastra, amrita and srm deemed to be universities but VIT's admission processes were so user friendly and I know this university is better to be admitted into even though i have got a seat in those other colleges. Students MUST clear the VITEEE examination to get a seat in this college. There are no cut offs but only rankwise admission process.
Faculty
There is 1 faculty for every 55 students. (1:55). Half of the faculties are completely chill and the remaining half are deadly. But for the students who put hardwork and actually study, they are all cool. I had an English professor named vineeth radhakrishnan in my 1st year. He impressed the whole class with his technical knowledge and a completely new approach to learning any course. He taught us how to come up with a good resume and how to behave ourselves so that company recruit us. The curriculum is very much relevant to the course curriculum. There are totally 8 semesters and each semester consist of two mid sem examinations and one final examination. The second mid term is always a bit tougher.
Night Life
There is an unpaid gym in every hostel block and a common paid gym that has specific work hours libraries are accessible until midnight. Every student must return to hostel at 9pm for men and 8pm for women. The famous hangout places are the gazebo and north square. Hostellers are provided with paid night canteens in case they did not eat in any of the food providing facilities during the work hours.
