A brief review on NIT Durgapur

Remarks :

It has the most beautiful and lush green campus. It has a pretty decent infrastructure and now it’s growing rapidly. There were few bad incidents regarding medical negligence, water shortage and disputes between the students in the past which are quite common in most the engineering colleges but as of the situations have improved a lot and right now its one of the most disciplined colleges

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum is divided into two parts and 8 semesters 1) Curriculum for the first year(1-2 semesters ): Freshman year you are introduced to varies basic engineering courses irrespective of your selected branch. 2) curriculum for the next three years(2nd 3rd & 4th)(3-8 semesters): From sophomore year to end of the final year, your curriculum is simply based on your chosen engineering branch with laboratory experiments. each semester lasts up to 4-5 months and has a qualifying exam for the next at the end of each semester, all the semester's needs are qualified in terms of laboratory experiments, viva, subject test through writing. Additionally first two semesters have sports tests too (depends on the sport one choose in the first semester which is mandatory) failing to qualify in any of the subjects in written tests will result in supplementary exams (which have to be given in the following semester) and failing to qualify even in those results in backlogs and to be cleared in the following academic year. Failing to qualify sports test in the first academic year(1-2 semesters) results in the year back, meaning you have to retake your first year. In short, the academic curriculum is bit old and more of research-oriented rather than being relevant to the present day

Placement Experience :

Placement varies from year to year and also depends on the present-day trends and the branch one opts in NIT Durgapur. Many reputed companies including PSU`S visits during placements. Maximum placement happens in the computer science branch followed by electronics and communication engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering and the rest of the branches. The placements in the college totally depend on the requirement of the company and on the individual skills

College Events :

Presently our college organizes 6 fests “AAROHAN’, “AAVISHKAR”, “RECSTACY”, "E-SUMMIT", "VERVE” and “VIRASAT”. All the fest are organized by a group of young enthusiasts under the supervision of highly responsible faculties. AAROHAN: Its an Annual Techno-management fest of NIT Durgapur, the 2nd Largest of its kind in the whole of eastern India. AAISHKAR: Its another annual Techno-management fest of NIT Durgapur which aims to instill a desire for technical expertise. RECSTACY: Or fondly called "Recs" is the Annual Cultural Festival of the National Institute of Technology, Durgapur. Held towards the end of the first quarter every year, it attracts a footfall of nearly 15,000, with huge participation from colleges across West Bengal and India. E-SUMMIT: Entrepreneurship Development Cell of NIT Durgapur organizes E-Summit events ranging from awareness programs, workshops, E Talks by renowned entrepreneurs which are said to be the second-largest E Summit of eastern India. In fact, only one of the three NITs to have collaborated with PM Yuva scheme VERVE: It's one of the cultural fests of the college, with various fun events VIRASAT: It's a voluntary youth fest which promotes intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fees are divided semester-wise, after the end of every semester(6 months period) you have to pay your fees. It is same for every semester. Below are the details- Gen/OBC based on an annual income of family- below 1lakh- 10k below 5lakk - 45k above 5lakh - 75k And for SC/ST - 10k No other heavy expenses as everything is available inside the campus.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

I haven't opted for any educational loans but there are various ways to avail the loans. Presently there are two banks inside the college SBI and CANARA where you can easily avail student loans

Campus Life :

People from different states of the country and from other foreign country join here, It's almost like mini India in terms of its diversity, gender ratio, cultural. NIT Durgapur has separate buildings for each and every department. It also has Students Activity Centre which we fondly call as The “SAC”. It is the focal point of all cultural and sports activities in the institute this a place where hobbies become talents. And like every other institute we have a library as well with an immense supply of books covering life, the universe, and everything. Students come here to learn. It is a place where your hobbies become your talents. In this college some professors are really friendly and cool, certainly, you need to interact with them to make an impact. Joining one of the best technical colleges in the country with professors and facilities surpassing your ideas and imagination into reality, you will hardly cease to be amazed by the awesomeness of National Institute of Technology, Durgapur.

Hostel Facilities :

At the beginning of every month, one has to pay hostel mess fees ranging from 2000 to 3500 depending on the month and the kind of a mess (veg or non-veg). The hostel infrastructure, neatness, maintenance and quality of the food are pretty low for college of national importance but as the year passes one get used to these.

Admission :

First, I qualified JEE Mains in 2015 and through various counseling rounds(three rounds and one spot round) of JOSAA I've admitted into Nit Durgapur. After confirming my seat by paying enrollment fees( varies year by year and by what category you belong to), then in a matter one week I've reported to NIT Durgapur for other in college admission and certificate verification process.

Faculty :

Most of the faculty are qualified teaching professionals, certified in masters, Ph.D. and research. Many of them have pretty go technical and teaching experiences and have worked in various national level colleges. Some of the professors are wardens of the hostels, head of fest management and various other posts by which students can have professional familiar relations with them.

Course Curriculum Overview:

B.Tech in CSE is future proof and a very good course for IT sector jobs and I was always excited working in these companies, that's why I choose the course. There are 10-12 faculties present in every department. Each faculty is M.Tech qualified and Drs. Their teaching quality is very good. 4 internal theory and 2 Lab exams happen each semester. The questions are standard, regular, and sincere students can easily pass.
