- The thing I like the most is the professionalism and the discipline of the college. There are number of fests going on all around the year . Brilliant facilities for sports as well.
- Canteen in the college is very affordable with a tremendous variety in the menu section. Generally fresh.
Dislikes
- Majority of the people are Bengali so if you’re an outsider you might have some trouble dwelling in.
- Sometimes too much of the strict rules may make life miserable for you.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Since I'm from science background in my 11th and 12th, I don't generally find the logic behind the studies which are being done in the classes but still I find it intriguing and I am open to attending classes. You have to give exams throughout the year . Be it mid semester exams of 40 marks or the end semester exams of 100 marks.
Internships Opportunities :
There are pretty good internship programs all through the year in our college. You get to have a lot of new experiences and opportunities. You can and you will easily get an internship if you try around well .
Placement Experience :
Placements in our college are very brilliant but there's a downside to it'. If you do bcom from Sxc cal either morning or evening batch, you are going to have an amazing and stable financial situation. But in English , don't expect earning a big salary. In campus placements exist for English students as professors. Many (almost all) of our professors are ex students of st Xavier's Calcutta.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The total fee comes out (for ba english ) to be 205200. With each semester, an amount of 58,000 has to be deposited. There are number of scholarships run by the college authorities . These may include special consideration for the Christian students, some of them also avail the Pradhan mantri scholarship programs which makes it even more less expensive for the students (generally from Kashmir or the north eastern parts of India.)
Campus Life :
The social and college life of St Xavier's Calcutta is, it is basically a school. You will have a school life. It's not the typical college vibe in here. You will have to follow a number of rules (specially if you're a boy). There are way too many clubs here , so many that I don't even know the names and functions of all of them.
Hostel Facilities :
I strongly recommend you not to join the hostel if you want to live a happy college life. It's too strict. The food is miserable. All time of the year, atleast 15 students are sick. The washrooms are miserable and would give you a number of complications. Please avoid going to the hostel as much as you can.
Admission :
As I said I was from pcm, I applied for 2-3 engineering colleges because I was determined I did not want to pursue engineering. I got into the merchant navy as well and that too in the best college of India but I had to back out due to family obligations and concerns . I chose English hons to go a little easy on myself for the next years but it didn't go as planned. I still have to study the same .
Faculty :
In English, majority students are girls, out of the total 97 students, 90 are girls and the rest are boys. So you might dislike it or you might absolutely love it. The faculty does their job in all seriousness and professionalism. They are open to criticism and look out well for their students both during the lectures and post lectures .
Night Life :
The college is located in Park Street, that is considered to be the best area in Kolkata for the fresh men and young people. There are good Cafes and restaurants worth visiting. The night life is decent . If you live in the hostel, you literally have no life. Either nights or days. No life.
