  • People at arts and science office are often rude and refuse to help or just ignore students.
  • Too much importance is given in attendence. It get's extremely difficult to maintain 75 percent above if you are a sick person.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I liked physics thus I took this course and moreover there was an option for taking computer as minor which proved really helpful as coding knowledge is required in further research to build models using computation and there is a paper on computational lab which teaches python, Gnuplot and other softwares required. It's not always easy to smoothly follow the lectures and with frequent assignments and exams it gets quite stressful sometimes. When syllabus is large, teachers has teach with more speed to cover it so it gets quite difficult to follow sometimes. Exams are standard not too easy or too difficult. Lab work is given great importance.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Sxc is a afterall a private college so the fee structure is more expensive than that of a government college. There are two installments for each semester. While admission the fees for the first installment of first sem was taken along with other fees for library, development, etc. It was around 35k and the fees second installment was 14k which varies for students with different minor subjects. Each year 4 such installations are there. Sum is around 75,000.

Campus Life :

There are numerous societies in college and several seminars are held. There is Xaverian Astronomical Society and sometimes students are allowed to witness Astronomical events using the telescope at the observatory. The other societies such as science association, etc call in lecturers from other universities to give talks. Sports department is quite active, they called in Ronaldinho last year and tournaments are held often. Wide range of books are available at the library and books recommended by the course structure are always available at the library.Classrooms have ac and projectors. Labs are well equipped and maintained .

Admission :

I applied to sxc ,ju and Scottish Church. I got selected in all of them. I chose sxc over Scottish Church as it's nirf rank is higher and I didn't choose ju because the environment is better in sxc and more volatile in ju. However factors such as political union, etc may not affect everyone.

Faculty :

Faculty to student ratio is around 1:4 and professors are approachable and helpful. Some of them use slides in digi board and ise projectors and board work is also done. Assignments are given and there are two exams mainly the cia and end-sem. Cia is quite easy and endsem exams can be stressful but manageable.

Night Life :

I mostly keep myself in the common room in free time. The canteen is always crowded but it is clean and food is good. The campus is safe and sound. The outside Park Street locality is busy and one can have a good time hanging around all day.

Other Applied Colleges

Jadavpur University - [JU] | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Physics)

I always wanted to study at St. Xavier's College mostly because there are almost no political propagandas inside the campus

Many companies like Wipro, TCS, Google, etc. come for placement in our University but only the student who ace in the top of the list gets selected and the rest have to try for off campus placements. This is one of the biggest problem so far.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose Physiology Honours because I was always very much into Physiology and Medicine.. And also Vidyasagar College is the Best College to study Physiology Honours under Calcutta University.. The Faculty:Student ratio is also quite Good and they provide one to one interaction to the student if needed.. All the Faculty are very highly qualified with the top most degree possible.. Their Teaching method is quite student friendly and Good.. They try their level best to make the students understand the concept in depth.. The Semester exams are timely conducted twice every year and the internals are also conducted at regular intervals..
