Remarks :

The college has huge potential and all students have this fire to keep on achieving something and winning something. The college should be as enthusiastic about hiring teachers as it is about mooting and other competitions. Other than that is college is a great place to learn and grow. It provides you ample opportunities for the same, you just have to grab that.

Entrance Exam

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course is decided by the affiliating University i.e Punjabi University Patiala. There are 5 subjects every semester in a bi-semester system. And the first 3 years have BA subjects but the rest 2 are purely law. The curriculum is interesting and well developed according to the recent laws.

Internships Opportunities :

The college used to give internship time (holidays) before. These were times when you could intern. But the university got that canceled because of working days weren't enough. Now students just take a month off each semester and intern. The placement cell of the college includes a representative from every batch and you can approach them if you want an internship somewhere. I had also gotten an internship via the placement cell. That particular internship did not have a provision for a stipend.

Placement Experience :

The placement has gone up as high as 14 lac. And a few reputed firms, companies and banks sit for the placement. The opportunities are great. But at AIL the best jobs have been bagged by those who have gotten PPOs ( fairly common in the college) and those who get jobs on their own. AZB, Howden, Anand and Anand, JSA, etc all have AIL students, some have even risen to the ranks of the partner.

College Events :

AIL encourages mooting a lot. They send students for almost every moot possible. Other than that they hold their own moot court competition every year- Checkmate Moot Court Competition. They are also hosted to the national rounds of Leiden- Sarin Air Law Moot Court Competition and they are also hosting the International rounds this time. Other than that Sports day, alumni meet and batch dances are conducted for letting off steam. Farewell and Freshers each have 3 separate functions which are really fun. Also, the college introduces mooting in the 1st year itself. Its a competition amongst the whole 1st years and is a much looked forward to the event. The college also organizes intra institute moot and intra institute debate competitions. They give a good kick to the students.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure is not as expensive as compared to other colleges. In fact, it is almost equivalent. The fee comes out to be around 2 lacs per annum which includes hostel and messing facilities. It is affordable more or less by everyone.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The college offers a lot of scholarships. They are all listed on the college website. The topper of every subject gets a scholarship and also the batch topper and the university topper get a scholarship. There are scholarships for best mooter, overall topper of 5 years, and other than those scholarships provided by independent companies and parties like Tata scholarships, etc.

Campus Life :

There are 2 basketball courts, a badminton court and separate football ground for the students. Sports are encouraged a lot in AIL. A contingent goes for almost all sports fest and the college has a reputation of winning. Other than that there is a research cell for students who are working on moots and other competitions, a good library, and a computer lab. Also, a lecture is organized every week where eminent personalities come and deliver lectures. That is a great learning experience.

Hostel Facilities :

The hostel rooms are double sharing and single rooms for the 5year students. They are good rooms with ample space, good furniture, and a small balcony. There are 2 washrooms and a bath to be shared between 6-8 students. Also, messing facilities are provided and food is considered to be the best to be given in any hostel. The washerman comes twice a week other than that there are washing machines and press in the hostel. There is a pantry which has microwaves, a toaster, and an induction cooker. I would rate the hostel 9/10.

Alumni/Alumna :

AIL students have a good relationship with each other. Even if they are separated by the senior-junior demarcation, this is what brings them together. The seniors treat you like their younger siblings and are forever helpful even if you've never spoken to them. The relationship is amazing and I cannot stress upon it enough.

Exam Structure :

Bi- semester system is followed. There are mid semester exams in the months of September and March. And End Semester exams (the final ones) in December and May. The question pattern is unique. There are 3 sections. Section A contains 4 questions of 11 marks each, out of which 2 are to be attempted. The same for Section B. Section C contains 10 compulsory questions of 3 marks each. The total written exam is of 74 marks and the rest 26 marks are for internals like the mid semester exams and research projects.

Admission :

The college provides a form on its website around the month of May and that is to be filled. It includes details like marks in 10th and 12th and basic personal details and uploading of the photo, sign, etc. Then if the 12th class result hasn't been announced, they send an email where you have to attach the result with the reply as soon as it is declared. After which admit cards are uploaded on the website around June. The exam takes place in Army Schools. It is a written exam containing Gk and English. Army category students have 60 seats reserved and civil category has 20 seats out of which 4 are for civilian students and the rest are for civilian students who are residents of Punjab. The college declares the result on its website pretty soon and if you're selected you are called with your documents to the college for counseling. There you submit the documents and fee and you'll be allotted a room (1st year compulsory hostel stay unless there is a crunch for rooms) and you're in! The whole process is very smooth and well organized.

Faculty :

The faculty includes around 5 permanent staff and an officiating principal. The rest of the teachers about 10 in number are not permanent. There are a few good teachers who teach well, take interest and go beyond the regular curriculum. However, there are also a few who are not that great and you feel like sleeping. There are good teachers out there, AIL just has to make an effort to rope them in.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course as it's very self awarening course about the rights of an individual and national. But the college curriculum is ok not so satisfying. Suggestions for improvement will be that the college should maintain a proper schedule system of the events per year. Exams difficultly level is not very high...it's ok... Course Curriculum Overview:

The answer depends on the management and leadership style of the university. If the university is research based and managed and led in a collegiate style, then lecturers will be invited to teach particular courses based on their experience and knowledge. The teaching load will be fairly evenly spread, depending on a lecturer’s and professor’s position and other responsibilities (e.g. course directorships). Senior lecturers and above may well decline to teach a module but will have to ensure their teaching load is at the required level - so they cannot simply opt not to teach unless they are bringing income in from other sources (e.g. research activities). If the university is heavily orientated to student numbers and research/publication is a fringe activity pursued by a minority of staff, then the situation will be very different. In such organisations the teaching load is much heavier and consequently so are the demands placed on lecturers. They will have much less leverage for de

Admission:

There is an All india entrance examination wherein out of a total of 80 seats per batch, 60 are reserved for wards of serving/retired army personnel, 16 are reserved for punjab domicile students and 4 seats are reserved for all india civil category. The test for fairly simple and there was no negative marking either. I chose it because it is a bit cheaper than the other options and the students you meet share a common background which is usually helpful.

Placement Experience:

The placement and job opportunities are at the worst place they can be. There is not a single law firm (corporate or litigation) which comes to the college for placements. There is no concept of day zero in the college. The organizations that come are primarily insurance firms which give a less than sustainable offer which has to be taken by the students because of the inherent lack of choice. The college doesn't even provide internships in law offices and discourages anyone who wants to apply and intern on their own. There is no attendance relaxation shown for students who are interning and there is no internship break given by the college, hence the students have to miss classes and intern at the risk of getting detained (yes this has happened). The college always maintains that the internships are a personal responsibility and the college doesn't care about the students internships. The college doesn't have the authority which has the expertise to run like an actual law college.

Admission:

The admission was given on the basis of online counseling which conducted by the University authorized by Government of Punjab. I just applied for the college and had to give a telephonic interview and then was sent the offer letter for the admission.

Placement Experience:

We have a placement cell in the college which informs us about various placements that come to college and help us to prepare for that. The college doesn't provide any internship as such but we can apply and get for internships off campus. However we can do internships only in college holiday periods as attendance is a big issue here.
