Dislikes

  • Travelling facilities are not provided by the college to travel to and forth from college to home and vice versa
  • infrastructure can be improved, labs need more equipments

Course Curriculum Overview :

I would rate the curriculum a 8/10. Although, we have a very creative bunch of teachers, there is a need to update the curriculum. We still follow traditional methods of learning which creates a hige problem bridging the gap between the education here verses the education abroad.I belief that there is a need to shift to a more field oriented form of education rather than a theoretical approach to the study. In that sense, there is a need of total reform.

Internships Opportunities :

I am not currently under the internship program but many of my seniors are doing internships for which they even get paid from the college for their expenditures if any and beyond it provides them with the necessary exposure.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fee structure in Edmund's for the course of Bachelor in Arts (Ba Sociology) 2024 per semester including the Mdc's and Sec's as per NEP 2020 is 18,500 approximately so per year it costs a students of sociology hons a sum of 37,000 approximately. The fee structure is subject to change however any increase in the fee structure is rarely noticed and if noticed it is not by a huge sum of money (not more than 500). As for courses with practicals such as physical sciences, the fee structures differs and is slightly higher compared to subjects without practicals.

Campus Life :

The college campus here at Edmunds provides the perfect environment for a student and aids in his/her learning process. We have a very green campus and a very vibrant campus life to go along with it. Everyone is very sociable and the variety of cultural communities and clubs provide the students with opportunities to grow, learn and interact at a personal level and build meaningful relationships.

Admission :

I did get into the other colleges that I applied to but I wanted to pursue Sociology and not all the other colleges provided a course in the same. I had also heard a lot about the reputation that the college holds and the enthusiasm of the faculty members that encouraged me to pursue Sociology here.

Faculty :

The faculty members are very friendly and approachable. The teachers are very creative and expressive with their teaching methods and always strive for betterment. The course structure is very diverse and we get to learn beyond what is prescribed. The examinations are usually held under NEHU (North East Hill University) which is why we may face problems at times when it comes to the results announced as it is usually irresponsibly conducted but the examinations conducted by the institution itself, internals and practicals are carried out effortlessly without the possibility of any misconduct. NEHU follows the marking scheme given and followed by all national universities.

Placement Experience:

There is a placement cell in college, and many students have got some jobs, internships and admission from other colleges / universities but I think they can improve a bit. Until and unless the students doesn't approach by themselves they don't know. Plus, they can have tie up with better companies or organisations.

I chose geography as I have a lot of interest in this subject and it gives you a lot of practical applicable skills..it prepares us very well for real world applications as we do a lots of practicals with lots of field works and activities.. it's all good,I have no complaints regarding teaching methods, the professors always give their best..exams are held after every semister (approximately twice a year) and the difficulty is average.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Some specific aspects of curriculum that make me choose this college is that because the rank of the college is high. The curriculum also helps us in the future by making us do our projects, fieldwork and also go to the schools like an internship. In my opinion the college does not need any improvement. Time of writing exams is 3 hrs and it is enough time for us to complete our exams.

Placement Experience:

The placement are diverse and comes with packages ranging from 3 lakhs to 10lakhs based on your capability. Some companies which offers placement are Infosys, Microsoft etc. The students getting placements are normally of high percentages such a 85%+ and also have exceptional problem solving ability. My plans after getting my undergraduate degree is to pursue a master degree in English literature, preferably outside the country.
