Optometry course review of HCU

Dislikes

  • The infrastructure while generally good can sometimes feel outdated or in need of maintenance. The administrative process may be slow and cumbersome which can create frustration for both students and staff
  • The optometry department needs to be improve its infrastructure maily the clinics . It does not have all the equipments which makes it difficult for the students to learn practically

Course Curriculum Overview :

The optometry course curriculum needs to be improvised. We don't get more practical knowledge from the University bcoz of the limited syllabus. In a semester we have 3 internals and best of 2 of that will be considered for theory subjects and all the 3 will be considered for practical subjects. Exams are pretty tough especially the clinics exams .

Internships Opportunities :

You will have to do internship in your 4th year. Many hospital will be given and you can choose among them. The internship is pretty hard as you need to work for the whole day for a year . Always choose a best hospital for practical knowledge

Placement Experience :

University offers placement. But it is more of optical outlet. If you are someone looking to work for hospital then you need to find it by yourself. This course is a 100% job opportunity one. You can either go for reasearch, you can work in hospitals, opticals, MNCs and you can even set up your clinic .

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

You need to pay the fees semester wise. In one semester the fees will be ?19,910 and in the next semester it will be ?21,110 approximately. So this is a 6 year course and approximately you need to pay ?1,40,000 for this course. We do receive OBC optometric scholarship if you belongs to OBC. University also provides stipend of Rs 500-800 every month

Campus Life :

The campus always have some cultural events. You will always be engaged in some of the other. The main attractive event of the campus is Sukhoon which is 3 day programme with cultural events and DJ and even students can put their own stalls and earn money. We too have 2 gyms and shooting ranges and football team, basketball, volleyball ,tennis court, badminton court etc. we also have a lot of clubs like dance and music , arts etc

Hostel Facilities :

For hostels we have two types. The one which is an old one lacks lot of facilities and the ones which are new are pretty good . We have 2 persons in each room with 2 beds ,2 chairs , 2 study table and 2 cupboards . We will a mess secretary for each month and the menu of the food will be decided by the mess secretary. You will get the hostel once if your admission id confirmed and it is very affordable

Admission :

People who have Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics background can apply for the course . They should have more than 60% in their 12th STD. The application form will be found in the central university website, where you can select the Hyderabad University for optometry. An all india entrance test will be conducted and top 26 will be rewarded with the seat. There are reservation for OBC, SC and ST and for physically handicapped people. Exam will be pretty much easy and will include the +2 topics

Faculty :

We have a very few permanent optometry faculty which makes it very difficult to understand about the in depth topics. Facilities are very friendly and it depends on the individual about whether the facilities are approachable everytime or not

Entrance Preview:

Interested candidates must have passed class 12th with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. They need to give entrance exam conducted by the college and the person with the highest score gets more chance of admission. I got 93 percentile and was called for interview round which was quite good. The management informed me with all the updates through emails.

Placement Experience:

Placement cell conducts a lot of training and interview mock sessions where students are put in the same environment and given them the training and help them overcome their weaknesses. This kind of approach helps the students to perform better during the actual interviews and get the best offers and opportunities for themselves. Average package offered to the students are Rs.345000 per annum.
