Dislikes
- The college can be a little unorganised. Students may not know of a lot of important things till the very end of it’s schedule.
- The timings of the classes are really hectic, you have to study one subject for about 3 hours and you loose your attention for it by the end. Teachers tho push your limit in a good way sometimes it goes out of reach
Course Curriculum Overview :
Since my course is fashion technology I learn more about the back end of the industry, the production and marketing, and merchandising of the clothes that are designed. Some of the subjects we have are SPME, and SCAP which give an insight on how export houses work and what kind of job you can be looking at for work. They also have an option of deeper specialization which offers two subjects one production and the other management. Production as it states goes into producing apparel whereas management understands the technical and technology used to produce these garments. You get a very big insight into the fabric and its sciences you learn deeply about woven knitted and non-woven garments.
Placement Experience :
I don't know much about college placement but for fashion technology average is around 4-5 lakh but if you get a pre-placement offer from an internship company your salary will vary according to that company. Around 90% of students are placed either from college or PPO. They also offer guidance regarding after graduation. They also have a master's program in case you want to pursue that.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The fee if you get through general quota is 3 lakh per year which is divided among two sems in each year. There is also NRI quota but the fee for this is around 10 lakh. If you belong to a particular community you have options of getting scholarships, they also provide scholarships for laptops and other electronic gadgets. The criteria for each scholarship depends on the category and your annual income. There is no college job but they push you take yo internship which may allow you to earn a stipend.
Campus Life :
Nift has two feet annually one is spectrum held at every even semester and one is converge held odd of every semester. Spectrum is a fest held in a college campus whereas converge changes from comp is to campus depending on the year. It's a fun challenging experience for students to increase their horizons and gain experience.
Admission :
The cut-off depends on the overall rank that you get in your exam, your rank also determines which campus and what part of India you can go to. If you're choosing to go to Delhi Mumbai or Bangalore your rank as a design student needs to be within 150 or so and technology is also the same. The exams they conduct are two parts for design where and one exam for fashion technology.
Faculty :
The faculty honestly depends from department to department and so does their qualifications. Since I'm in fashion technology a lot of my faculty are engineers who have also done phds in various aspects and areas. They all come from a very disciplined background so you don't get that much space to have fun like a kid. They're supportive and knowledgeable but to get deeper you need to step up to them. All the faculty themselves won't impart extra knowledge if not necessary. There has to be respect between the two. Teachers are extremely approachable. At the very beginning of college, every student gets assigned a mentor who they can reach out to any time to share any query. There is also the head of the department who overall is very caring towards the student and their needs
