What Students Say
Likes
- Alumni network is great. It's the oldest medical college of chhatisgarh located in the heart of the city.
- It's known as Mekahara in local language and right from children to old age people choose to come here.
Dislikes
- It's a bit congested. 75 acres is not a lot so it can feel cluttered.
- Hostels aren't top quality so students choose to live outside sometimes.
Course Curriculum Overview
It's the best and oldest state government medical college of chhatisgarh (AIIMS raipur is a central institution). Choosing MBBS here was based on the facts like location (ii) funding received from govt is first given here (iii) patient inflow at OPD everyday (iv) facilities at the hospital (v) challenging surgeries and cases being taken everyday (vi) best doctors are available here. You get to learn a lot
Internships Opportunities
You have to do a compulsory internship of 1 year after 4.5 years of mbbs, after which you get your mbbs degree. Other than that, you can choose to do any research projects by contacting the department of your choice. It's more of a voluntary activity here and not very promoted I feel. It's something that needs to be worked upon.
Fees and Financial Aid
General fees is Rs.50k per year. Although if you're from obc/sc/at, you can apply for a scholarship by the state govt which is for around Rs. 50k only. But that's unavailable for general. Rest are general charges like exam fees for university exams etc.
Campus Life
The annual fest Impetus is conducted around November every year. It's an in house event, meaning other colleges aren't invited. Library is available but you can't avail it in first year. It's available from 2nd year. Classrooms are okayish. Digital screens are there. A sports hall is there with TT table, Badminton court and carrom boards, chess. It's not that amazing.
Admission
You can get admission through NEET UG for MBBS course. After getting your neet results, you have to apply for counseling either through state counseling or AIQ counseling. I got in through AIQ. There's a compulsory Rural bond of 2 years that you've to serve after your internship completion, failing to do so you'll have to pay a fine of Rs. 25 lakhs. If you leave your mbbs seat midway, you have to pay a fine of Rs. 25 lakhs. The admission process is the same as any other college. Your documents like 12th certificate, migration etc get deposited in the college until your mbbs is completed.
Faculty
In a class size of 230 (mbbs, since 2023) while giving lectures, the faculty to student ratio is pretty wobbly. You can feel as if you aren't paid any attention. But when it comes to practicals, it's great. In our anatomy dissection hall, we have been assigned tables (10 in total, 23 students each) and each day, 6 students go to histology. So in a sense at a time only 15 students are at a table considering some are absent too. We also get a table teacher who's one of the professors/ demonstrators to help us. It's an amazing thing that I like. Same with physiology and biochemistry.
