  • Traditional method of teaching like long long lectures mostly.
  • Politics everywhere. And students are frequently asked to take part in political camps.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course had the masters paper and one general paper of your choice like political science, education, philosophy, environmental science. And one DSE paper too like gender studies, refugee studies and peace studies. The course was really interesting it mainly focuses on the south and south east Asian countries. Each and every were taught by making class room power point presentation with lots of study materials and references The professors were teaching bilingually. It was a bit tough in beginning but the more time passed the more we got acquainted with the subject and started liking it .

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

I took admission during the covid time so the fees of first year was waived. And the second year exam fees and semester fee was very nominal. Perks of studying in a government University and not everyone can get a chance. Swami Vivekananda scholarship were provided for students who's family income is less than 3 lakh per annum and they had 70% score in last qualifying exams. Indira Gandhi scholarship were also provided centrally for those who are the only girl child of family. Oasis scholarship was also given to students coming from minority background Like St/school/ obc

Campus Life :

Lots of seminars used to take place. Both inter college and state level and national level. Fests like fests during Holi, freshers , Christmas Our Calcutta University had different buildings for different streams . For arts mainly the alipore building, for science the Rajabazar science college for English and literature the college Street campus and for home science the Biharilal college I belong from Alipore campus and it was a big one and our room had AC in it as well. Big halls with lots of students like 150. But in my department we had less people. Smart board were being provided in some rooms to access power points. Separate washroom for girls and boys. Had access to a canteen who sold food at affordable rates.. Library, lab everything was present.

Admission :

Getting into Calcutta University for your post graduation is really really tough. Since I took admission during the covid 19 period hence no entrance were conducted . We had to fill an online form and based on our merit from the score of graduation several lists were published. And the seats were limited and lakhs and lakhs of students filled the form hoping to get the opportunity to study in the biggest state University at nominal cost and scholarship as well. If you are a graduate from Calcutta University then the process is this. But I'm not sure about the students who come from different university to do post graduation in Calcutta University.

Faculty :

Every professor was highly qualified. My stream was south and south east Asian studies and this subject was a new student to me as earlier in graduation i only student modern history, Islamic history and modern history. But the profession always made sure to give us quality education and pushed us to do better each day.

Other Applied Colleges

Jadavpur University - [JU] | Master of Arts [MA] (History)

My name was published in the second list. Hence was unable to join the university.

Placement Experience:

For other skill-based courses placements start after the second semester. For theory-based courses like ours, we can start the placement process from sem4 if we are able to manage the dissertation process and the internship simultaneously.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I wanted to study film making and advertising which prompted me to choose Mass Communication. There's less effect of the curriculum in real world application. Teachers need to look beyond favouritism and teach according to modern day technique. Frequency of exam was like 5-6month sometime it took 7 month sometime 5 month. Difficulty level was high.

Remarks:

The quality of teaching imparted in this Institute is high quality. Timely publication of research and is a hub of research opportunities. The food available in the canteen is also cheap. However, the physical infrastructure of this University is sometimes lacking and the washrooms are also seldom not clean.

Remarks:

Overall my experience is very good. The Govt. funds allocated to education should be increased to give the best minds of this country a well equipped support structure to guide them to excellence. Also, the campus needs more cleanliness and awareness drives for social and political sensitization.

Remarks:

Pros- Great environment, one of the most vibrant campus lives there is and there is a lot of freedom and autonomy about the space. people are encouraged to think freely and pursue their interests beyond academic aspirations. A lot of students have gone on to do wonderful things in completely different fields than their initial association. Great placement facilities ensure that you also pass out with a job.
